We loved our week staying at the best hotel in Skala with our bestest friends. The staff were great, especially Christina always so friendly and helpful. Hiring a car is a must to see this truly wonderful island.
We will be returning hopefully next year.

Room Tip: The higher the better for beautiful views, good exercise walking up the steps. The picture is taken...

We booked this on a smart deal and had a choice of 6 different hotels all pretty average looking. This hotel wasn't in the deal but something happened that meant we got put there at first I was a little pessimistic but after watching everyone get dropped off at very secluded, dingy hotel apartments we rolled up at San Giorgio hotel, we'd landed in my opinion one of the best looking hotels in Skala this was soon confirmed. Very helpful staff, pleasant atmosphere. The food & service there is probably the best we received in Skala. Minutes away from secluded beaches. About 10 minutes away from Skala in taxi, 30 minute walk. If you tend to stay in the hotel more that's fine, it has many sun loungers and 3 different pools a lot of entertainment throughout the week. Amazing place for a nice quiet trip away!

Me and my boyfriend visited San Giorgio from 6th August to 13th August 2013. Having reread reviews on here, I would say they are very accurate. Kefalonia is a beautiful holiday destination. San Giorgio is overall a good hotel, bar the steep hill and breakfast. We were surprised with how big the hotel was when we arrived. We were expecting a smaller hotel from the pictures we had seen on here.

We arrived at San Giorgio late on the Tuesday night. After getting off the transfer coach, our bags were taken to our rooms. However, this was not made clear! We had no idea how they would know which suitcases were ours and whether they would leave the bags in the room or outside the room. This was frustrating as we were very hungry and eager to go to the hotel restaurant! I also wasn't happy with luggage being left outside the room. We were taken to our room which was right at the top of the "cardiac hill" as mentioned on here. The baggage arrived about 20 mins later. Phew! Being fit, healthy and only 23 and 26 years old we thought we would be fine with the hill- but it really was very steep. It prevented us from going back to our room during the daytime. We found ourselves out of breath when we finally reached our room! If considering San Giorgio request a lower level room!

The room itself was very spacious. Towels and sheets were changed every other day. The cleaners came everyday. We had a sea view which was a nice surprise. There was an infestation of ants in one corner though! We bought some croissants from a bakery one night to have for breakfast the following morning. We left them on the table overnight and found them infested with ants in the morning!

The restaurant food at night was absolutely fantastic. The lamb chops and pork soulvaki were excellent. The best food we had on the island! However, the breakfast left a lot to be desired. There was fruit, greek yoghurt, cereal, (warm!) milk, bread, cheese and ham. There was a choice of hot food, e.g. scrambled egg or beans everyday. This did not look particularly appetizing. There was a toasting machine which kept me happy.

The hotel is a 40 minute walk from Skala. This isn't a problem as the hotel provide a courtesy bus every hour or so. Make sure you book the bus through reception in the morning as the more popular times fill up. It is 5 euros back in a taxi.

In Skala itself we would recommend Captains Bar for cocktails. They were amazing! We also enjoyed eating at Sirrocco and found Pittabozo a great lunchtime stop.

Overall, San Giorgio had a great atmosphere, the pools were lovely and we had an amazing holiday!

Room Tip: Avoid room 151!

me and my wife booked 2 weeks at the san Giorgio from 30th jul-13 aug 2013 we had read the reviews and looked forward to our holiday we arrived after 5pm and our bags were taken to our room we had asked for a sea view overlooking the pool when we got in the room the view was exactly what we asked for , stunning. we stayed in room 225 there is a steep hill to all rooms fromm 200 upward but the view is worth it we did see accommodation just inside the entrance to the hotel grounds there was still a hill but not as muchm we ate mostly in the hotel the breakfast was a bit repetitive but Spiros(restaurant manager) is looking into changes but to be fair it was the food you get while on holiday anywhere the evening meal is not a buffet but waiter service we were half board and we were shown the half board menu and a normal pay on the day menu and we were told we could order on the pay on day menu and pay the difference this we did most nights the service was first class thank-you Christo Cristina all the staff and Spiros.the hotel reception girls were great and could not do enough to make you're stay an enjoyable one thanks dezzi and sofia the bar was well run and the staff very good and at reasonable prices also there is a snack bar by the pool for afternoon snacks with good food at good prices and well run run.there was entertainment on most nights, quiz, greek, jazz, karaoke nights all run to a great standard the hotel runs a mini bus into skala starting at 10 in the morning till 9 at night. some mornings we had breakfast in the pines restaurant on the main strip, good food at good prices. we also had meals at the apostel restaurant which is by sallys bar to the right of main street. we went on 3 trips, discover kefilonia and the sun cruise were booked with Thomson(a bit expensive)both were good but the sun cruise was great we also went on a day trip to ithica island booked with etam in the town and saved 22 euros compared to Thomsons price ,this was also a great day out. all in all a great holiday made better due to the hotel staff and fellow guests and finally not forgetting the maids who cleaned the room daily and changed towels bedding when needed so to all of the staff and management thank-you and if I haven't mentioned you I am sorry.we don't usually go to any-where twice but we think when we are planning our holiday for next year it has a good chance of being the san Giorgio again it was that good.

Stayed here for a week, room 120. Family of 4, we had a great holiday. 2x very large double beds, one in bedroom other pullout in living room. We were self catering, but ate out most evenings. Overlooked pool and the sea. Hotel sorted issues quickly, we were missing a cork screw. I spoke to reception they phoned the on site shop and by the time I had walked the 20m to the shop, the assistance was standing at the door to give it to me. The hotel provides a good courtesy mini bus in and out of the town, Skala which is handy. Both hotel receptionists were very friendly and helpful. Hotel is only a few hundred metres from the rocky coast with lovely shingle beaches, fantastic for snorkelling, the water is so clear to observe the fish and underwater rock formations.

We stayed for two weeks in a nice room with a fantastic balcony. The hotel has three spacious pools with enough sunloungers, and a conveniently placed bar. The food in the hotel restaurant was great with a huge choice of Greek and international dishes.

Stayed here with my husband June 20th for 2 weeks. Let's get the complaints over with first - no complaints at all, the location, hotel and staff were perfect! Yes, there were lots of steps but we read the reviews so it was expected. Yes, it was 2k outside Skala but again we read the reviews so we were prepared for the long and lovely walk into town and we NEVER got transport which seemed to run like clockwork as it regularly passed us on the main road into Skala.

After an hour's drive from the airport we were met off the coach by Christine. what a lovely lady, she was the ultimate Jack of all Trades. Coach, to reception to room took no more than 10 minutes, unbelievably smooth and trouble free and Christine even carried my bag. When we got to our room the porters were already outside waiting to drop off our bags - now how's that for service.

There were 3 large swimming pools and a very small pool for small children. Would have been perfect for my little 2 year old grandson :-). We choose to camp at the quiet pool so called as it was mainly occupied by adults. We never had any problems with sun-beds no matter what time of the day we went to the pool and it would seem no Germans in the hotel because no-one ever put a towel on a bed before 8am - marvellous! The pools were cleaned every day as were the rooms and clean sheets/towels changed probably around every 3 days though the maid (lovely, cheerful lady) was always happy to change sooner if you asked.

We had room 303 which was just above the quiet pool. Small balcony but big enough for 2 and the room was very spacious. Large bathroom and large shower, little fridge to stock up bottled water and air-con that did the job. The view from the room was absolutely stunning and when I woke each morning and looked out the window I couldn't help but smile as it was like being in paradise.

The hotel lobby was large with lots of chairs, tables and settees to lounge on. The restaurant, for the amount of people was small although I heard that they are looking to expand. the location of the restaurant was lovely and to start with we sat on the pool side but it tended to get a bit breezy in the evening and so after a few days we changed to the Zante view which was perfect. We asked for table 32 each night and that is what we got. They are even happy to reserve the table for breakfast too. Spyros was the hotel manager and he was entertaining. Our waiter was the lovely Ilias who couldn't do enough for us. We struck up a lovely friendship with Ilias and my husband would go our running with him before breakfast. The food for my husband was lovely. We were half-board and there was a large choice for him and his fav was the pork kebab. I am a vegetarian and the main course choice was limited but they allowed you to choose something from the main menu and then pay a few euro's extra and this was worth it. Food presentation was always good and taste excellent. I particularly liked the Gemista, couldn't get enough of the Greek salad and had apple pie most nights! Breakfast was a little chaotic. Lots of fresh fruit, tinned fruit, fresh yoghurt, pastries and cold meats. I guess my husband could have done with a little more choice with regards to the hot breakfast but for me fruit and yoghurt with a sprinkling of muesli was just what the doctor ordered.

There was entertainment but nothing brilliant and although this didn't bother us, I am sure that this is one area where the hotel could improve. I heard the quiz night was good but unfortunately on both occasions we were in the restaurant having our evening meal and so missed it.

We've never been to Kefalonia before so we just had to check out the sights. We booked a car for 4 days and covered just about everything. We went to the underground lake (beautiful), the caves (amazing), ate at Captain Corelli's cafe in Sami, went to Argistole, turtle beach, Myrtos beach (OMG - the most amazing and beautiful beach that I have ever been to) and of course the quaint and beautiful port of Fiskardo. We sat at the harbour eating lunch and chatting to the people on the yachts. It is a beautiful port, very picturesque with lovely shops and although we travelled all over the island we knew we had chosen the best resort in Skala and the best hotel in the San Giorgio.

Our overall impression of the San Giorgio is that it is a fantastic hotel. Very clean, lovely rooms, helpful and kind staff, lovely pools, good food and in a perfect setting with perfect views. I like being on the outskirts, I love the peace and quiet.

I also love walking. We even walked from the hotel all the way up to Old Skala and back again. We managed to do this as one day it was a little cloudy but as soon as we got to the top of Old Skala the sun came out so it was a mighty hot walk back but it was still a very pleasant experience. The following day Ilias took my husband running up to Old Skala and beyond. He survived - just lol!!! Are we youngsters - no we are not, we are just healthy fit people.

Kefalonia is a beautiful island and we can't wait to return.
