Spent one of my best holidays ever here with my partner in August (and I have had many).
Hotel and location not for those looking for the high life, but if you are seeking simplicity and relaxation in beautiful surroundings with a tremendous view away from the hustle and bustle of the resort centre, then this is the place for you. The breakfast is simple, but this is Greece! the meals served at the poolside at lunch time were simple also, but very good quality and value. The rooms are spotless and not the usual run of the mill white walls and pine furniture that you usually find in a hotel of this size and price. The pool is lovely and we experienced none of the 'towels at dawn' mentality from other guests...The staff are courteous, helpful and friendly and as many others have said before me, Sophia is the most gracious host - it has been a real pleasure to meet her and we hope to stay with her again in the not too distant future. The hill was not a problem for us and I came home feeling fir and toned! We also walked up to the old ruined village and had both lunch and dinner at the taverna at the top, which offers even more magnificent views and the host there is also very generous, friendly and well informed on the local history. We took two trips with Thomson - The island tour and Ithica, the second being by far the superior, one of the best that I have ever experienced. Skala itself is a small fairly quiet resort, but the main street offers lots of very good restaurants, the Flamingo as mentioned by Susan c is lovely, but the Old Village was our favorite - sample the local 'Robola' wine. Needless to say that we tried to book again for the same time next year, but obviously you have all read the reviews and the hotel was fully booked........I have a feeling that everywhere else I stay for a long time after I will be comparing to the wonderful Livadaki...
