This was one of the 4 places we went on the trip, and the best ruins we saw. MAKE SURE YOU GO TO THE RIGHT AND UP THE HILL WHEN YOU FIRST GET THERE. Don't go into the main plaza first, go up to the Pequeña Acropolis first. In this way you won't have to walk UP the main pyramid steps. There are some steps to walk up going this way, but nothing like that main stairs. You'll have the whole place to yourself if you do this part first. Then when you get to the main plaza, you'll have that to yourself as well (depending on how many people arrive at the same time). You have to get a guide BEFORE you get onto the Panga boat to that takes you to the ruin; it was $60 pesos for us, his name was Joel, and was just great!. We saw and heard many Howler Monkeys, which really make the trip that much more special--they sound Primordial, like dinosaurs. We saw Spider Monkeys, bats, scorpions, toucans, woodpeckers, and other types of birds, and a mini-Capobera-looking animal who was super skiddish, but really cute. Highlight of the trip to Chiapas.
