“A mice surprise”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2012

The hotel staff were helpful. Food was not bad. The beach front is alright, not much to see with a snorkel underwater though. One can lounge in hammocks tied to two coconut trees by the beach. There's a warning sign though to be careful of falling coconuts. We stayed at the Angel 2 budget fan room at P800 per night. It was small but clean and adequate. The complimentary coconut-based shampoo and conditioner are great. The smoked glass windows have small holes in between though making it challenging to dress up privately. Worst part was we heard the sound of a squeeking mouse in the middle of the night while we were asleep. It woke us up and scared my wife off. She thought the mouse might have climbed up the bed and went inside the mosquito net. Upon checking, it seems the sound came from either inside the wooden walls or ceiling or the floor. Other than that, it was a pleasant and affordable stay. It is only 10-15 minutes from the Siquijor pier. We arranged for pickup with a tricycle driver which gave us a tricycle tour of the island, since the place is a 5 minute walk from the main road.

However, we were thinking it might be better to stay in a resort along San Juan beach near the Tulapos Marine Sanctuary, so that one can at least see corals and fish snorkelling underwater, but we were told by our tricycle driver that the waves are too strong, also the main bridge to the area was unde repair, and it is about 30 minutes from the Siquijor pier.

Room Tip: If you are on a budget, the Angel 2 room is small but adequate. Be prepared of a mice surprise from...

Other reviewers have it right: a bit of paradise on laid-back Siquijor Island. Eat breakfast on the deck overlooking the sea. Watch the fishermen paddle by. Play tennis. Rent a scooter and ride around the island. Go for a swim or a snorkel (but try to make it high tide). Chat with the owner and with the charming, professional staff. Have a great dinner. And when you have to leave, reluctantly take a trike back into town.

This resort is the best we have stayed at in e Philippines. The accommodation is spacious, clean and very well done. The setting is perfect with clean white sand with a wooden terrace overlooking the sea. The food is very good and the host is very nice.

Also if you are a tennis fan or diver this is the place to be as there is a tennis court and dive shop onsite. The host is eager to involve guests in friendly matches against other players on the island.

Villa Marmarine is a great place to come and relax for a few days. After a 12 hour transfer from Malapascua my wife and I arrived at 9pm and were warmly welcomed by the staff. They offered us a complimentary drink and the attendants then brought our bags over to the room where they fully explained all the features of the villa. Of note, Villa Marmarine offers free laundry service for stays over three night which was greatly appreciated. As well, they offered free transport back to the port at the end of our stay and also booked our ferry tickets for us, all nice touches.

The room we stayed in was very comfortable and was fully stocked with towels and soaps as well as a mini fridge which may have the coldest beers in all the Philippines. The Yoshi room we stayed in was also close to the main reception so we got wifi in our room, not sure if wifi reaches all the rooms though.

We ate at the restaurant numerous times and had some of the best food of our trip thus far. In particular, the french toast, kenilaw, and pork adobo were all excellent. Even if not staying here, I would certainly recommend stopping by for a meal.

The grounds are well taken care of and there are plenty of hammocks as well as a tennis court, if your so inclined.

Overall, I would recommend this place highly.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Yoshi room which at 1,400 pesos was one one of the best we have stayed in thus far...

We stayed 3 nights in Marmarine over Easter. Lovely place that offers great value for money. The huts have been carefully designed making most of the space you have, they are comfortable and clean. The food is pretty good, especially the Japanese noodle dishes. Breakfast is very basic and for some reason the staff persistently toasts bread only on one side but hey I'm not complaining. The free wifi is nice although it is definitely not available in all the huts. The best thing this resort has going for it is the amazing white sand beach, deep blue sea and it's amazing sun deck that allows you to overlook all this natural beauty.

My only negative comment would be our diving trip: we set out for a snorkeling / diving trip to an island (Balicasag) which was supposed to take 2 hrs. We took off in a way too small boat (waves were pretty large) and it took us 3.5 hours to get there. The snorkeling was ok but nothing impressive (can't speak for the scuba diving) and the way back took us another 4 hours before the crew decided that the engine was not strong enough and dropped us at the very tip of Siquijor just before darkness and had us brought back to the hotel by car. When I look back all of this was pretty unsafe and not very well managed. Also the only reason that I can come up with for them to organize a trip to such a far destination (while the whole area has great diving sites) was because one of the hotel staff's family is from this Balicasag island, where we paid for our lunch etc.

So all-in-all a great place but before going on a diving trip, make sure to know how big the boat is that they are going to use, where you are going and if it is more than an hour away, ask them why you can't go somewhere closer instead.

Room Tip: Shige cottage is the cheapest and closest to the beach. It is very small although cozy and comfortab...

As I looked into the reviews, I was honestly wondering how one can need more than what this place has to offer ;o)

Polite and helpful staff, good food, laundry service, tennis court, dive shop, sandy beach, free Wi-Fi, great rooms, ticket service, good food, and a perfect view.

The only thing - book in advance if you would like to stay here.

Thank you for a perfect stay!

My fiance and have stayed at Marmarine on 2 separate occasions and thoroughly enjoyed both visits. Our first visit was in April 2011. The resort was easy to find, is set back from the road and has a beautiful stretch of beach with a few sun loungers, hammocks and local children somersaulting in the sand!
The food is great, the service is super friendly and genuine. If you're looking for somewhere to stay with great value for money then this is the place! Daman (the owner) will certainly appreciate your visit and will most likely challenge you to a game of tennis on the flood-lit court.
