“A little gem on northern Lake Como!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2014 via mobile

Thank you , Grazia to a beautiful family who have great pride in their wonderful Hotel Europa. I stumbled upon it on the internet and I instantly thought this was the place for our short stay at Lake Como. Quiet, small village, few tourists and close to the lake. Mattia gave us a map advising where to go, which ferries to catch, where to park etc. We used the bikes to cycle along the promenade, bought a day pass for the ferries and enjoyed two magnificent dinners of homemade pasta dishes, cooked by Angela. Orista provided excellent service and the room was spotlessly clean.
This was a very special time, made more special because of the service provided by this beautiful family. We were sad to leave Hotel Europa!

We chose this hotel late in the day on our way back to Spain from Venice, and what a fantastic find! We looked at the reviews and knew we really couldn't go wrong, but even these didn't prepare us for the stunning views from our room, the friendliest of welcomes from truly lovely people, the simple, beautiful taste, how spotlessly clean and loved it is and then, to top if off, a superb dinner with a delicious bottle of local wine in the evening. All food prepared by the owners themselves.

This is a beautiful family hotel that cares. We stayed in so many places on our trip, from camping places to chateaux's, and in nearly all of them we had a great stay. This was the best of them all, and the price was extremely welcoming too. Thank you for a lovely stay, we will be back there again and will recommend this place to everyone we know heading your way from Australia and elsewhere.

At the upper end of Lake Como Hotel Europa is in a beautiful setting. Although it is set back from the lake there is a walking path that you can take along the lake edge. The family who own the hotel are very sweet and hospitable. They make their pastas fresh daily, and the homemade Tiramisu is wonderful.

The rooms are very basic but clean. The mattress on our bed was a memory foam mattress and was one of the more comfortable mattresses we slept on our entire trip. The biggest drawback is the noise. The walls are paper thin. We could hear people walking down the hall, up the stairs, coughing 2 rooms down, and could hear the guy next door every time he went to the bathroom. If you are a light sleeper then this place is not for you. If a bit of noise doesn't bother you then enjoy a bit of hospitality from a nice Italian family.

Many thanks for your compliments and your super-fast review (a few hours after checking-out, kind of a Tripadvisor-addicted)!

Unfortunately our hotel was built in 1973 and the insonorization-technologies were not as good as now, furthermore you stayed here on a Saturday night with the hotel full-booked.
Trust me, we always do our best to keep the hotel the most quiet as possible and sometimes we don't sleep to get this result, but unfortunately not all the guests are polite and nice like your family! However, you probably are a very light-sleeper because nobody else complained about the noise that morning...
About the "very basic rooms" (they're all just renovated) and the " bad insonorization", I'm sorry but you should also consider that we are a 2 stars family hotel and you paid only 95€ for a quadruple room with breakfast on Saturday, if you had bigger expectations you should have booked a 3 - 4 stars hotel paying much more...

I'm sorry you didn't sleep well, but I'm glad you appreciated our area, our food and hospitality!

Warmest regards, thank you

Mattia

What a welcome, on arrival son Mattia was out at parking lot ready to welcome us to their delightful family hotel. Mattia insisted on carrying all our luggage, his father, Oreste quickly checked us in and we were promptly in our clean modern rooms with lovely views of the surrounding mountains. Bathrooms new although compact. House well maintained by sister Ilaria with Angela specialising in home cooking. A great family hotel established by Mattia's grandfather in 1974. Another great feature for the Como area is the ease of parking. Parking in the Como Lake area a nightmare. As an alternative to a car you can take a bus and half hour at Menaggio and then a ferry ride across to Bellagio and or Varenna.
After our 2 day ( much too short) stay felt as though we were !leaving our family

Room Tip: Don't worry if lake view rooms all sold as the mountain view room's view probably even more...

We came here for one night, but the place was so lovely we decided to stay for two. The scenery is gorgeous with snow capped mountains and green lush surroundings. The family that runs Hotel Europa is wonderful. Friendly, inviting and helpful. The food is so fresh and they even invited us in the kitchen to see the fresh pasta being made(we are both chefs and relish stuff like this!) Rooms are comfortable, clean and spacious.

I won't ever forget your amazing boyfriend who asked me spaghetti alla bolognese with egg at breakfast, he's absolutely my hero!

Joking apart, I'm glad you had a nice stay and you enjoyed our cooking, above all because you're both chefs!

I don't know why, but I feel we'll meet you again somedays, at least I hope because I really laughed a lot thanks to you...

Best wishes for your next job and for all, thank you again

Many greetings from me and my family,

Mattia

We stayed for 2 nights at the Europa and I can't fault it. The position was fantastic with stunning views of snow topped mountains from our room and all that could be heard was bird song. The room was a good size and very clean. The bed was large and comfy. Bathroom was fab and gave a very nice shower. The best bit is the helpfulness of the family who run the hotel. They rescued us from the road side after we got off the bus too early after a very long journey from the UK. Nothing was too much trouble - we borrowed a ruck sack and received suggestions for places to visit for our short visit and it all worked out fine. We had one meal in the hotel which was lovely and homemade, you must try the cake for breakfast - it really is good with coffee first thing!

Room Tip: We were in room 8 at the top of the hotel and gave us a lovely room across to the mountain but all t...

I'm very pleased to have met you and I hope to see you again in the future, just remember that the correct bus stop is Sorico downtown! I will always remember of you, lost and desperate English guests waiting for someone along the road...:-)

Thank you very much, my warmest regards

We stayed for 3 nights in the hotel as a stop on our way to Tuscany but it was even beter than Tuscany. We slept with our two boys and one baby girl in a quadruple room, which was recently renovated and very clean, so that was very nice, but the real attraction of this hotel is the kindness and helpfulness from Mattia and his family. They showed us the nicest spots on the lake, the were very kind to the kids, etc. And then there was the food from La Mama, please don't forget to eat here, every evening the mother of Mattia cooks some traditional Italian meals and sometimes something special. We really loved it.

The hotel is close to the beach so you can walk with your kids to the beach and we think is a positive thing it's in the north of the Como lake because the other places we visited there were very crowdy in august, but not in Sorico. We think we go back this year ;)

Thank you very much, I remember your nice family and I admire you because it's not easy to look after 3 very young kids together, but you're really good parents!

I hope to see you again this summer, we have a new family room ideal for you!

Ciao, thank you
