“Lovely hotel on the banks of Lake Como”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

My husband and I stayed at this hotel in Moltrasio during our recent Riviera Travel organised trip to Lake Como. The hotel is excellent, in a super location just 15 minutes by road from Como and has very easy access via boat to many destinations worth visiting for example, the gorgeous Bellagio which is not only super for restaurants, but marvellous for shopping: handbags, scarves and ice-cream (although Bergamo has the best in my opinion!). The hotel restaurant staff are excellent. Service is always prompt, friendly and even when very busy they have time for an amusing quip. The food is good too. Every evening we had four courses. The choice is limited, but Riviera have negotiated a very good deal to enable visitors to stay in this hotel, so the lack of a vast choice is understandable. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable, if a trifle worn in places. Bathrooms are again spacious and absolutely immaculate. My only criticism of the hotel is the bar. The staff are terrific, but there are two problems: the prices and the pianist. The bar prices are outrageous (we moved to the very reasonable and welcoming La Vecchina next door for our post dinner drinks each evening) and the pianist made any attempt at conversation virtually impossible as he, even when requested to play a little quieter, seemed unable to control the volume. A smart, elegant hotel with lovely gardens on the banks of Lake Como with excellent facilities – well worth a visit, but drink next door in La Vecchina !

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the lake - stunning!

This hotel is situated in a very quiet area of Lake Como. Moltrasio is a 20 minute boat taxi to Como. And 50 minute boat ride in the high speed boat to Belliagio. Access to the boat taxis couldnt be easier. Its just across the road from the hotel and costs a couple od Euros. The hotel is clean and modern and the staff are well informed and helpful. The breakfasts are very good but we found the dinner menu very expensive. This forced us to try other restaurants in the area. There are a few but the one just next door is excellent. The bar in the hotel was outrageously expensive and the barman charged us 33 euros for badly made pino caladas. There were three of us sharing a suite and it was spacious and very clean. Fresh fruit and wine on arrival was a nice wee extra. Also on arrival we were given a free pass to the spa but we didnt use this area of the hotel because of the time factor. As the hotel is off the beaten track, if you didnt have a car I would advise you to travel by water taxi..the road taxis were expensive. The taxi charged us 140 euros from the airport to the hotel. The water taxis are a good way to see Lake Como. The hotel has some other extras like a tennis court...but you have to pay for the english tv channels and wifi. these are the sort of things I expect to be free. So to summerise....We stayed here the first week in April...it was cold and you definately need a warm coat if you are sightseeing. I suspect this hotel was so reasonable priced because it is so out of the way....having said that it is a good base if you want to see Lake Como. Well worth a look.

Room Tip: As the scenery here is so beautiful I honlestly dont think it matters where your room is. You spend...

We stayed here for a friends wedding for 3 nights. Its a great venue and friendly staff. It was hard to leave the room as the views were amazing, the batello stops right outside the hotel and only takes 20 mins to go to Como.

We stayed for 2 days during a road trip across Northern Italy & Western Switzerland.

Good:

- I really liked the location. It is 8 km north of Como (which I did not like as much as the lake front). It is on the lake in a nice village (with a great trattoria) and nicely placed for the sights and places we wanted to go / those around the lake highly rated on this site.
- We had a challenge with what was included in our rate. After a little prompt the team did fix this entirely, which was nice.
- We really liked the breakfast and the restaurant on the lake (surprisingly reasonable for lake front Como)
- Great bathroom with a bath that fits 2.
- There is a spa which was nice and has a few features - nothing we would pay for, but decent enough for a short time after a day out walking.

Issues:

- Our room was really sparse and the bed was not comfortable. Really not up to 4 star standard in such a critical area.

We stayed in this hotel in August. The hotel was full but we never felt as if it was too crowded. The staff are very helpful. They arranged water skiing for us, gave us advice on golf in the area and provided us with some very good restaurants in the surrounding towns on Lake Como. The proximity to the ferry stop is great. We were able to take the ferry around the lake. Stopping up at Bellagio for a great day spent exploring. Our rooms were great. We had 2 rooms overlooking the lake. The one room was a double and the the other room was a triple. Both were very spacious. The spa here is wonderful but make sure you make a reservation early as it books up in the peak season. We ate at the restaurant one night and it was really wonderful. it had been recommended by a friend and it was as good as she said. All in a ll a great spot to wind down, relax and enjoy Lake Como.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms overlooking the lake.

Visited Como at the end of November, so really out of season. Hotel in a great location just 10 minutes drive from Como, or 20 minutes by boat. The ferry stop is very close to the front of the hotel.

Staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant lovely and so was the spa.

Can't fault it. Hope it retains the level of service in peak season, when I can imagine it would be packed.

Room Tip: ask for a lake view
