“How did it get four stars?”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2008

Walked in after long tiring journey. Parking immediately outside, not always easy on Lake Como. Saw it had 4 stars & thought should be good. Menu in window looked attractive.

However room very small. noticeably musty smell. Furnishings shabby. The bed was described as king-size but didn't look it.

Had pre-dinner drink in lounge/bar. Furniture again shabby with some wear. Went to go into restaurant to find it was not open to guests. Had we known we had to drive elsewhere for dinner, we would not have stayed there.

On return, strong smell of cigarette smoke in ground floor area.

In our room, could hear conversation of other guests in nearby rooms.

In morning, noticed three dust cobwebs in bathroom, and stains in bathroom cabinet. Also rust around shower screen and crack in shower door. We didn't use shower but stronger musty smell from it. Hair dryer plugged into a socket marked "for electric shavers only"

Breakfast standard but not nearly as good as 4* we stayed in the following night.

I feel this is possibly the worst hotel I have stayed in. On the same holiday we stayed in 3 & 4 * hotels in the Province of Bergamo. Both of these were so much better than the Plinio. It is difficult to imagine how it holds 4 stars

This is a nice, basic hotel with a great view of Lake Como. The room was small (like most Euro hotels), simply furnished with comfortable beds. The bathroom was huge and very clean. Our room had a nice lake view (as do all rooms) which provided a nice breeze through the opened window (no air conditioning). Breakfast was basic (cereal, meats, cheeses, croissants, coffee, milk, juice) and was a nice way to start the day. There was no internet (wired or wireless) but there was parking right outside the hotel. The front desk staff (owner?) was very nice and helpful answering many of our travel questions. This is not a 4 star hotel, but it is a good place to stay to get a good nights rest.

The location was terrific - right down the street from George Clooney's estate with a couple of restaurants within a few minutes walk. The town of Laglio is quite charming with narrow streets lined with old, beautiful villas. Definitely worth a stop if you're driving through Italy.

This is a wonderful little hotel which has the best location on Lake Como! It's close to the larger town of Como with its shops, silk industry tours and restaurants, Cernobbiio with its little boutiques
and Laglio which is itself a slice of Italian life!

The hotel has character--offering hospitality, clean/updated rooms--and there is a view of the lake from each and every room!

Plus the dining room has some of the best regional cuisine I've tasted!

I definitely recommend this sweet hotel. I've told all my friends in the US, too.

It's affordable, fun and gives a person a real taste of Italy!

  • Liked — The warmth and hospitality and the great food
  • Disliked — size of room's tv

Its okay if you dont want a clean smelling hotel. Its scruffy smelly and quite frankly looks like something seedy and not at all what you expect particularly as the photos on the web look quitenice. In my opinion it is not a four star more a 1 star for one night stops when you are so desperate you dont want to sleep in the car. The Posta up the road in Moltrassio is a three star and is superb. Somthing should be done about the star rating as this is really misleading and dissapointing
