We had business to do in Locarno and due to currency restrictions we looked for not to costly double room in the area. We booked one night at the VILLA SARNIA on Lago Maggiore. We arrived and got a spacious double room facing the lake at CHF 99.- per night. The owner asked us in Spanish, if we would like to have breakfast next morning. We ordered it for 7 a.m. as we had to be early in Locarno. Good surprise: for CHF 17.- we got a rich buffet-breakfast after a short night. As we had closed the soundproof windows, we did not hear the early morning trafic of the street in front of the buidling. The property has a large car parking area, it is however not protected and we felt a bit uneasy, as we had documents in our car. But all went well. Should we ever would go a second time to Locarno, we wouuld again choose this small hotel.

For our European honeymoon we were looking for an interesting offer in southern Switzerland, as we planned to visit Locarno and Ascona.

We found the VILLA SARNIA in San Nazazro, which semed to be a nice little BEDandBREAKFAST operation.

We booked a two nights' stay in a double room type A, for CHF 89.- per night for the two of uns.

And indeed we had a most enjoyable stay in this villa, built in 1887.

The room was quite comfortable, had a nice view, balcony and shower-bath.

The breakfast buffet was tasty, however no dishes like e.g. scramble eggs were offered. The wintergarden could not be used, as the weather was too cold.

Looking back it was by far the buest buy of our trip and the friendliest hotel of all."

Charming house with original and very old furniture as decoration. Rooms are comfortable. Good location to cross to Locarno by boat, this is a nice little trip in Lago Maggiore. I spent a weekend but I will not return to this place.

This is an beautiful hotel on a beautiful lake. This was my first visit to this area in Switzerland, and the hotel was recommended to me by a close friend who had previously stayed there. On arrival the host and his wife served Prosecco and nuts. We felt comfortable right way. The next morning we were greeted with one of the most amazing breakfasts I've come across in my travels. At lease 10 different types of bread, a huge selection of jams, spreads, honey, meat and cheeses. And the coffee was especially good. Since we was new to the area, the owner of the hotel, arranged a wonderful tour of the lake, it's islands, and surrounding area by train and boat. He gave pointers, like what side of the train to sit on for the best views, and where to find a good place to eat lunch on the water. It was a great day. The hotel itself is cozy and comfortable with original frescos on the ceiling; providing a nice charm from the past. The fixtures and appliances were all modern and functioned well. It was a wonderful trip, and a large part of the success was due to the stay at the Sarnia Villa Hotel and the wonderful, warm service from the hosts.

This is my second stay in this little and absolutely charming hotel. The hotel is in a traditional old house from the region, filled with antiques, and the ceilings still have the original decorative paintings from the time it was built. Bathrooms, windows and amenities are all new which give a modern day comfort in a character-rich old setting. Most impressive is the caring and kindness of the host. This really sets this place apart from others. Mr Schelbert and his wife go out of their way to give you the best possible service and surprise you with lots of little gestures that give this hotel a special atmosphere. One is greeted with Prosecco, in season one receives fruit from the hotel's own orchard, and the host has full of recommendation for local day trips and activities. The breakfast buffet is one of the most outstanding I've ever seen. There is a large variety of breads, jams, honeys, cheeses and meats all from the Ticino region, some of which from very small local artisan style productions. For food lovers and those interested in the regional culture this is an adventure in and of itself.
