This is the Lakes area of the Malaga region and consists of 3 lakes which where made to supply water to Malaga. Built in the 20s it is a feat of construction with its dams and chutes. You can get quite close to the actual dams and it is quite interesting to see the construction. The water in the lakes is an unbelievable tropical blue, natural chemical reaction apparently, and people flock to the area to swim, poedalo or canoe. The area is so astoundingly beautiful there is always something different to see.
Ther are numerous bars and restaurants in the area but the best one is the Mirador set over the little bridge. A really hidden and rustic place with delicous food, the place is packed at the weekends and on Fiesta days but the views are lovely and the wait for food worth it. An alternative to that is the Garganta restaurant and hotel right in the Chorro gorge area. Expensive but good for a snack or their fantasstic jumbo icecreams!
Take the road right to the top of the El Chorro power station mountain where you will be amazed to find yet another lake from the views are breathtaking!
The drive through the shady woods is nice with the weathered sandstone and windy road.
El Chorro is the place where they filmed part of Von Ryan's Express [the bit where Frank Sinatra was killed] and is interesting to see as the railway is still in operation.
