“Great business or leisure base”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2010

Was actually working at Medienpark, so this hotel was an obvious choice .... however it would also be ideal for a Munich city visit. Situated 4 stops down the S8 train line into Munich from the airport, it takes about 30 mins to travel to. Continuing onwards to Marienplatz in the centre of Munich ois only 20 more mins. Conveniently, the hotel is 5 mins max walk from the train station. At the time of writing, it was 9.60E to get the train from the airport. My colleague who arrived later paid nearly 50E in a taxi .... the train is very clean, fast and nice to travel in.

The Hotel is a 3* basic standard and I found it to be clean, friendly and welcoming. There is a restaurant to the side of the hotel whch serves great beer and a wide selection of food (English menus if required). Due to the fact that the leafy suburb the hotel is located in doesn't have many bars etc, this place is very popular with the locals who eat here for lunch and dinner - a very friendly atmosphere.

Remember, 20mins on the train to Munich is worth it for a meal out. (Day ticket on train was 5.60E at time of writing.

We were there for three days for a conference. The staff could not be more helpful. Service throughout was attentive, flexible and welcoming. I cannot recommend the staff enough. Anything we needed or asked for was provided.

The rooms are spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Shower was as good as you will get anywhere.

The pub/restaurant was superb - excellent food and quick service at reasonable prices.

We were rather disappointed with the room. It smelt of fish as you entered and there was a urine smell in the bathroom. The bath tub was very small (could not stretch my legs out to sit), and shower only worked after we fixed the chalked-up lever with a Swiss Army knife! (The shower curtain was of the clingy type, and surrounding wash area got soaked.) Towels were thin and hard.

The bedroom was quite cramped. A packet of half eaten sweets was in one of the drawers. There is only one bedside table, so nowhere for the person on the other side to put a clock, drink etc, except on the floor. There were no tea/coffee making facilities in this room (as described in a previous room.) TV was tiny. Balcony was spacious - but not the time of year for it, and no evidence of any furniture for it.

More worryingly, the fire door separating the stairwell from the corridor (4th floor) was permanently wedged open.

The redeeming features of this hotel were the breakfast and the proximity to the S-Bahn. Unfortunately, the restaurant was shut on the Saturday evening!

Lovely little hotel in zone 1 of Munich -four stops on the S Bahn from the airport, so you can arrive there easily at pretty much any time of day. As you leave the S Bahn station Unterfohring, follow the signs for "Medienallee", exit the station, turn left at the small roundabout and it's straight in front of you. I was freezing cold, arriving on my own in the dark late at night, and I appreciated being able to get quickly to my hotel and warm up. There's a kettle and tea and coffee in the rooms which - as a Brit - was very welcome! Ample breakfast too and the friendliest staff you could imagine. Highly recommended.

Fairly large rooms, clean, very friendly staff. Located in a quiet suburb next to train station and close to the highway, and only 15 minutes to center of town by train. Awesome breakfast was included at no charge. I've paid 15 GBP lousy breakfasts at English hotels; this one had a great continental (w/ great selection of breads including Bavarian pretzels) and hot breakfasts (moist scrambled eggs, bacon, bratwursts). Free internet in rooms.

We wanted a hotel during Ocktoberfest for 2 nights in Munich that was convenient to public transport and the airport and selected this hotel on that basis. It was a superb find. During the festival, the hotel rate was higher than normal but still a good deal by Munich standards at that time of year. The S-Bahn station is only 1 block away and you can get to the airport in 20 minutes and downtown in 30. Not much nearby in the local town but very pleasant and quiet. Nice bar attached to the hotel and an excellent breakfast. Rooms were very clean and well appointed - overall we thought a very good bargain.

  • Liked — Clean and well priced
  • Disliked — Typical chain hotel rooms etc.

Recently found this hotel in a small town (Unterfohring) 1 stop before Ismaning on the S8. It is 100m from the train station and is 25 min to the Munich airport. Hotel is a bargin with great breakfast. 1Km away is a small lake ( feringasee) with a restaurant. Some areas of the lake are FKK (nude), but most is just summer sun and lake fun. I great way to get exercise and relax before a long flight home. Another advantage is the S8 departs in both directions to city/airport at about the same time. No need to remember multiple timetables. Isar is to the west , has a nice jogging trail but nothing special.
