“An above average country pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2012

We've visited many times during the past 30+ years - it's a decent enough country pub (with gastro-pretentions but doesn't quite make the grade for me) with a good welcome and efficient service. Ales well kept, but nowhere near as many as there used to be. I've eaten here frequently - although to my mind the food is normal pub grub, it is well cooked, the portions are generous and it is good value. Altogether it is well above average.

“Good pub food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

This busy pub has a varied menu, the food was of good quality and the service was also good, unfortunately they don't accept table reservations so you may have to wait.

“Pub food as it should be”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2012

This very busy pub serves a good range of options from half a duck to steaks to burgers to spare ribs, long menus is chalked up on boards in the two rooms. We arrived about 8 and it was buzzing. Simple formula that works very well, you order at the bar and then the staff bring the order. There is plenty on the plate with veg nicely cooked. This is plain pub food nicely done and fairly priced. Would not travel a long way to go here but if this is on your way or near you and you want a good plain plentiful meal then try it. Downside- you can't book a table and decor is a little dated. Not really a special occasions place but lovely to go with friends, you are not hassled by staff and can take your time to order and linger after the meal.

“Lovely”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2012

Tonight I went for a meal at this pub. We arrived at six and there was already a queue for opening time! The welcome we had was friendly and was told where we could sit. The food was lovely, I had the green lipped mussels from the starter menu but had it made bigger for a main meal,it was delicious. The portion size was good and we shall be back as there was plenty of other things on the menu we fancied trying. I would certainly recommend this pub as a place to eat.

“Nice find.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2012 via mobile

On our journey back along the A303 to London I didn't fancy eating in any of the little chefs, but rather fancied a nice Sunday pub lunch. Used trip advisor to find some where near somerton. We originally plumped for the devonshire inn. That was fully booked, which I was happy about, because seemed a bit stuffy, and not pub like enough for what we wanted.
On the drive back out to the A303 we stumled across the lime kiln inn.
Just what we were looking for. A proper pub, doing proper Sunday roasts. Very friendly service, good prices, family friendly, and a good selection of local brews. The other diners food looked top notch too.
We are often up and down the A303, and will certainly be back.
