“Nice place at a special spot..”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2014

We spent the Easter holidays at this B&B right along the dutch Ijssel river. Host Joost and his sister are kind and open people. For dutch standards, I am dutch, breakfast was pretty good.(except the last day when things looked a little dreary..) We had a double room with a view on the River. Used to the usual folling around with heaters that don´t work, the room had gas fired chimney, that can be controlled by remote control. Very handy. Right in the front of the hotel is a little ferry boat, that takes a max of .... 3 cars. That ferry brings you to the other side of the river and on your way to Bronkhorst, the Netherlands smallest community. Holland at it´s best. Not very far away, in the village of De Steeg, is a nice restaurant that we can recommend.(except when the waitress talks too much...) You are close to the german border and the hanseatic cities of Zutphen and Doesburg. We enjoyed!!

Impression:
Plus:
* beautiful old building. Very tastefully renovated and very well maintained!
* hospitality is great!
* free wifi. You're free to grab a cappuccino from a professional machine etc. Excellent!
* luxury in rooms (not all!): fireplace + jacuzzi. Nice Samsung flatscreen and view on the IJssel river are standard ;)
* breakfast is very ok!
* owner is very friendly. You feel right at home
* worth to even do a detour for when you're staying somewhere in the east of Netherlands (veluwe national park for instance). By far the most non-ordinary hotel in the area I think

Minus:
* tried hard (I'm Dutch ;)... ) but can't really think of anything. This place is also excellent to hire in one go for party and staying for a good night sleep.

At a request by friends from Finland I looked for something other than other in this area. Villa Veertien proved to be just that. Said friends decided on a suite, superb view of the river plus surroundings. I booked a somewhat smaller room, o.k. although I quite soon regretted being the miser. I believe the property is privately owned by an American citizen. Exploitation by a young Dutch caterer / entrepreneur and his family, the atmosphere tells. The hotel is situated in one of the nicest parts of my home country, woodlands and historic villages nearby. Last but not least, as quite often with newly opened hotel premises, friendly starting rates to built the clientele. On the latter, I have a feeling they’ll succeed.
