“Family holiday Summer 2012”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2012

Our first visit to Club Med. Very good - would go back. I couldn't find directions very easily so if you want its location I think its N 45o 40' 37 W 1o 9' 48 (not sure why Club Med don't include this). You have to pay for internet too (strangely) but apart from that everything is included.

Main thing to know is its very French and non French speakers do get left out frequently. If that annoys you I'd go somewhere else but I found it amusing (eg I was refused a ping pong ball but 2 minutes later a French speaker was allowed one!). Its also not as safe as you might expect - we met someone who had their mobile stolen.

But food good and lots of activities included.

Dear Great Member,

We would like to thank you for taking the time to put your comments regarding your stay at La Palmyre Atlantique Resort. It is only with constructive criticism such as yours that Club Med will be able to improve the standard of customer care offered in all its resorts.

We were sorry to read your comments in respect of the lack of spoken English. Whilst it is true that Club Med is a French company with a majority of French guests and members of staff, it is only fair to say that we aim to do our utmost for our English customers to feel less disadvantaged by providing English members of staff wherever possible. On behalf of Club Med, our sincere apology if this was not the case on this occasion.
For your information, we do mention in our Brochure that if customers feel concerned that speaking French (or not) might be a barrier for them on their holiday, then our Reservations staff can tell them which resorts have a higher ratio of English speaking staff and clientele. A list of these resorts is also available in our Brochure.

On a different note, we were pleased to read that you had a pleasant time at our Resort and enjoyed the quality of the food and activities.

We hope to see you again soon in one of our Resorts.

Club Med is always a warranty for hassle free great all inclusive holidays and The La Palmyre Village is no exception to the rule. I booked our stay on the Friday the day before we flew out and I was rather aiming at a destination on the Med border, but the last minute flights did not work out. La Palmyre was a second choice to start with but from the moment we arrived at the village we loved every moment. Le weather was brilliant, the village is wonderfully located in front of the beach, in the the pine forest, surrounded by trees and the golf club. The sports facilities are amazing (great sailing, tennis courts and unlimited cycling paths taking you along the coast). The food was incredibly tasty and diverse. The highlight was probably the Mini Club where our 4.5 year old son enjoyed his mornings and afternoons. Nora, Jeremy and the team provide a safe and entertaining environment for the kids allowing us to relax and enjoy our sports. One afternoon, they threw a kids fair with attractions, bouncy castle, rewards and presents to win. That was so impressive and the kids LOVED it. Actually, we will certainly return. Only suggestions for improvement:
- the booking process, albeit last minute, was a bit of hard work as I had to chase myself 3 times, talking to 3 different persons, before closing the deal (it would be easier if the operators had a direct line to call them back);
- our son complained about the cleanliness of the kids club toilets... after checking, I had to admit that although it was not disastrous, a bit more care would be required;
- although the service is fantastic once you reach the villages, the travel logistics are certainly not Club Med's forte (in all my previous experiences too): we were booked on an easyjet flight to La Rochelle with no possibility to check in on line and had to queue at Gatwick for the check in and for the boarding (Club Med do not get you the speedy boarding...); on the way back, they scheduled a transfer 5 hours prior to the plane take off and we ended up waiting for 2 hours outside the micro airport of La Rochelle, before being allowed to check in...

Room Tip: In my opinion the best rooms are located in the original part of the village, closer to the sea fron...

We travelled with 2 children 14 and 11. We were slightly apprehensive prior to the trip as the accommodation did not look great on the Club Med site. We also had a lot of difficulty trying to book with Club Med in the UK. Very unhelpful and unfriendly.

On arrival we were delighted with the accommodation. Beds were good and the apartment was very nice. There is no free internet access and it is expensive to purchase. Even with that it was difficult to get internet access except at the reception. Really not acceptable in this day and age!

The overall experience was very good. We all enjoyed the holiday and thought that the staff were exceptional. The food was good but they did not cater for vegetarians. Except for the cheese there was no vegetarian options that provided a balanced meal.
We had a great time doing all the activities and the pool is amazing....

The down side was that although we went mid July there were no people of the children's age that spoke English and so we ended up having to go with them everywhere!! The fourteen year old met no one and the 11 year old met 1 person halfway through the week. All the clubs are orientated towards French speaking children.

The other thing that was really annoying was that it was hard to know what was going on. We were basically handed a piece of paper and let loose. On the Sunday night there is a meeting but only for the French speaking holiday makers. We were divided off and then after a short, very short, talk left to our own devises.
Simple things like the schedule of events is on the TV each day. Classified information!!!!

To book the sailing for the next day you have to go to reception at 9pm. However when we did go, we were given a time of 6-7pm as being the only time left. This was after being third in the queue.... How did the others get in before us!!! This happened a number of times. Also the wind surfing -you can book at the 9pm time or , if you are in the know, if you go to the wind surfing school, you can book after 2pm for the next day.

I think you just had to be French to understand!!!

This is a holiday resort for French people. The staff do their best and we thought they were trained to a very high standards, I think if you expect your children to meet others and mix maybe teach them French before you go.

We have 3 children 12-11 + 6 were royally entertained by the club reps and they found the activities and the nightly shows entertaining though mainly in french the music and participation helped them to enjoy it all. We found that where they could all staff were more than happy to speak in English or find a member who could so no problem on that front!
The food was very good and menus and themes changed daily, and the daily cocktails and inclusive alcohol was again plentiful though the vodka was an unknown brand to us and not great.
Transfers appear to be a well kept but very expensive secret, people we knew flew to Bordeaux and were charged €240 each way €480!!(6 of them) we flew into La Rochelle and a car for 7 days cost only €156-.
Overall we were very fortunate with 6 of our 7 days of sunshine, people like Lauren the MC was brilliant in terms of entertainment and inclusiveness and in general it was a wonderful relaxing experience and we wil go back.

Just returned from Club Med La Palmyre Atlantique - what a beautiful resort! I have visited quite a few Club Med resorts and this was excellent for a 3 trident. Stunning position with a walk through the garden and pine trees to the long white sandy beach. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The resort was very clean and well kept with flowers everywhere. Food excellent quality and a huge selection with plenty of chefs cooking speciality dishes. Bar staff were friendly and we didn't have a problem getting served. The entertainment team were great and so enthusiastic - it didn't matter that most of it was in French because there was a lot of dancing and we could understand what was going on. The party dances with the team later in the evening were also great fun. The zoo 5 minutes walk away is well worth a visit . Worth hiring a bike but the deposit for the day is 150 euros. A fantastic holiday and hope to return some day! Thanks to the staff for making our holiday a memorable one.

We travelled with children 4 and 6 years, they have been in kids clubs before and were really looking forward to it, however the staff have absolutely no interest in including non french speaking children, even though many of the staff can speak english. After persisting for two days we gave up. This of course changed the holiday for the whole family, obviously we will not be returning.
The bar staff are almost universally unfriendly and appear unhappy to have to serve people, there is always a long wait even in a bar that is always practically empty. I witnessed two french guests complain angrily at length about this but the staff don't care and there was never any evidence of anyone being in charge in the bar.
Pluses: nice heated pool, good food with friendly and efficient restaurant staff, beautiful beaches with great cycle/walking trails nearby.

We would like to book a week at the Club Med La Palmyre Atlantique. We have started a booking through the website. We emailed the company asking about transportation options to this Club med, we have not yet heard back.

I called them today to ask what airport they recommend to fly into, and what transportation services they offer. The woman first told me an airport in Turkey. Once I clarified that that club med we are interested in is in France, she kept looking. After nearly 10 min she told me La Rochelle. And I asked, so what are the options for transport from there, is it near the club med? I was wondering if there was a shuttle service or if we should rent a car. She tapped away on her keyboard for about another 5 min and then said she did not know and would have to ask someone, but she would need to put me on hold for aprox 5-10. (And I am thinking to myself, I can surf the internet and look for independent travel options, the reason I am calling is to see what Club Med recommends/offers, because it is not obvious on their website.)

At this point I have been on the phone with her for 15 min. I said, in a very calm and pleasant voice that I was surprised they didn't have this information more readily available. It seems odd to me that it takes over 15 min to answer a transportation question. At which point she hung up on me.

Based on this initial contact with the Club Med company, I wonder how professional they are as an organization. I hope my phone call was recorded for training purposes and someone with some authority hears how their staff basically threw away an eager and willing customer.
