4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2011

Stayed in a junior suite which was very tastefully done. Rooms are very clean and well mantained.Staff are very helpful and friendly.

The breakfast was done to order and was very good.

I would recommend this hotel as they really do make you feel welcome.

MY wife and I were recent visitors to Nr. Wales to visit family and celebrate my wife's mother's 90th birthday. To be short and certain, our stay with the Oriel was a very pleasant and wonderful experience! The clear highlight for us was the service! The staff, all of them, were friendly, gracious helpful and attentive in ever way. We would certainly hope that the local town fathers would consider that this is the kind of hotel that captures visitors and guests, invites their return visits and helps build the image of the entire area. Without reservation, we offer the Oriel with our highest recommendation as the place to stay if visiting St. Asaph or the surrounding area.

We stayed here after attending a function at the same venue and I have to say I was plesently surprised after reading some of the review on here. We had a superiour room that was spacious, with a comfortable bed and great thick curtains that did a great job of blocking out the morning sun. Always good to see a hotel with free Wifi.

Bathroom was clean with toiletries. The bath was nice and deep and the shower particularly good.

On the breakfast buffet there was lots to choose from and it was good to see gluten free alternatives. I would certainly stay here again if I was in the area.

We had an amazing wedding at Oriel House, our suite was amazing and all of our family and friends had a wonderful time, I would like to take this opportunity t o thank Oriel House and its staff for making our wedding so amazing.

The chef prepared one of the best 5 course wedding breakfasts I have ever seen and great time was taken to ensure every detial was met to prefection.

Would recommend this hotel for anyone wishing to organise a wedding or special occasion.

Hi All, I just had to write and tell you about our fantastic short break in St Asaph in the Oriel hotel and spa. We stayed two nights on a dinner, bed and breakfast rate. The welcome as we arrived was so nice and they paid for a taxi, no hassles, to their other restaurant called the Bridge in St Asaph. We eat out a lot in Manchester, but the food at 'The Bridge' was really outstanding, with a free cocktail too, and then a free taxi back to the hotel. We ate at the actual hotel on the second night and the food there was nice too. Our room was absolutely spotless and modern and comfortable with bathrobes and piles of towels. There's a nice pool and small Steam and sauna in the building, as well as a gym. None of these services became so busy that we couldn't use them, there was a steady stream of people coming through and in the evening we had the pool to ourselves. We requested a late check out which was no problem for them and there was loads of free parking. The major bonus is that if you're driviing along the A55, this hotel is just off the Dual CArriageway, through St Asaph. This hotel is easy to find, a good deal, could do with a bit of modernising in some of the areas, but I completely recommend it, and I'm one of the fussiest people I know!!

how this hotel has changed since I last visited

They seem to be cutting back on all of the things you get in the room.

There is no filter coffee, no water and a severe lack of biscuits !!

Portion sizes on food have reduced as well !!!

Everything seems to be a lot cheaper - apart from the cost of the room !!!

Beware if you want luxury - you do not get this at this hotel now

5 of us stayed for two nights. This is not a serious hotel as such. Its a small conference and event centre which squeezes in guests between the many scene changes. You may miss the sense of that for one night but two nights would leave you cold. The low point this morning was when stallholders with wallpaper tables were setting up for a wedding fair in the breakfast room as we ate. The team who run the place are fine but its creaking at the seams as they cram all these "add on" events. The standard rooms lack investment and the decor is 15 years old within them. The standard of maintenance was less than good with leaking areas of the roof very evident.Making money in North Wales must be very tough and I admire their versatility but be assured £80 B&B for two is far too much to be charging for a room standard more dire than a travelodge.
