“Worth the splurge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

My husband and I splurged on one night and wished we had stayed longer. Staff was amazing. Dinner in the George V was excellent. Bed was extremely comfortable. The grounds are beautiful. The weather was the only downside, but was not unexpected in Co. Mayo in late September. We will return if we are in the area

We got married here back in 2012 and the place is amazing. It is like stepping back in time and the staff attend to your every need. We highly recommend a stay at Ashford and Americans will love this place!

My friend and I splurged to stay here for two nights and was definitely worth it. The place is just unbelievable. We got upgraded to a suite when we checked in, which was fantastic. The hotel had started construction on the roof after the first night, which caused problems with our room (parts of the ceiling were falling) but the hotel promptly changed our room (they moved all our luggage while we were at activities) and we received monetary compensation upon checkout. The grounds of the castle are beautiful and the activities are definitely worth the money, especially falconry! Had read the reviews of falconry prior to the trip and figured it was worth a try. Everyone that raved about it was correct. It is fantastic! The food options are limited which is the only downfall. We did not dine in George V hall as it was expensive, but Cullen's was ok. Wish there were a few more options, but it was sufficient for 2 evenings. If we were staying any longer, I think I would be more disappointed with the food options. The Drawing Room was a great place for lunch though.

The hotel is in the middle of nowhere which limits any additional activities unless you have a car.

We stayed there for St Patricks and got a great deal plus upgraded, excellent setting, peaceful and a complete pleasure will certainly return with the kids next time too! There's plenty to do and lots to see locally out west, food is fab and staff to greet you at the front door with smiles, makes home from home that was a great experience......enjoy

Room Tip: Room in the turrets are special!

I don't think I can add much more than has already been said. This is one of those rare few places on earth you get to and wonder if it's actually real. From the incredible drive through private fields between the front gates and the hotel itself, to the incredible grounds and views. It really is a special place. We couldn't have asked for more capable and helpful staff. We couldn't recommend Ashford highly enough.

Ashford is a fantastic property in a magnificent setting. The property is special and the restaurant is excellent. The rooms are nice and the building has a great feel.
Its location with the ability to walk to Cong is a Huge plus.
Only thing we did not like was the music at night - it was really insipid and not irish at all.

Room Tip: Stay in the oldest part of the castle.

Stayed here recently for 4 nights. Everything was perfection- staff, food, room, activities! We had a falconry lesson which was amazing! Mark was our instructor and he did a phenomenal job! Golf was great despite some rain showers and the boat ride was very enjoyable. We ate in dining room and Cullen's Cottage both get an A+ rating. Our room was large, the bed was a little hard for me so I called the desk and they immediately brought up a feather comforter and put it on mattress. The grounds were immaculate and we took long walks everyday then enjoyed tea in lounge. I can't say enough good things about our stay here and can't wait to return but will book more than 4 nights.

Room Tip: Deluxe rooms with view of Lough Corrib are the way to go!
