“Absolutely 5 stars!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

My boyfriend and I wanted to go to Cuba and get Scuba certified at the same time. We are not big fans of all-inclusive resorts and prefer a spontaneous trip over canned adventure. We found Scubazul through Trip Advisor and were uneasy with all of the 5 star reviews that sounded a bit too good to be true and very similar in style. We signed up for the Open Water Certification course through email with Peyman and established that their payment policy is in cash when we meet with Renee. Initially, we were very nervous about scheduling our vacation with no concrete details. However, once we met with Renee that Sunday at our resort in Veredero all of our concerns were put to rest. We sat down for 3 hours and he went over the schedule for the course, gave us our dive kits, and instructed us on what to read to be prepared for the next few days.

The next day we worked through our introduction to the equipment and completed 3 delimited water tests in the small pool located at Renee’s house/ dive center. The following Tuesday we were once again picked up at our resort and taken to Playa de Coral, where there was a wonderful amount of fish, coral, and time to spend under the palm trees.
We paid extra for an all day excursion to Bahia de Cochinos but it was well worth the money. We traveled with Sadiel (Renee's son) and his friend Michael where we dove twice, explored a ship wreck, and swam in a cenote within the forest. For lunch we stopped at a house in a small neighborhood where the backyard patio allowed for a 4 table restaurant; sampling deer, alligator, lobster, chicken, mango juice, and coffee.

Scubazul is run by an interconnected system of family members and friends. They welcomed us into their home, and we even had mother’s day lunch with his family. Selena’s (Renne’s lovely wife) cooking put the food we were eating at the resort to shame. While it was frustrating for us to not speak Spanish, Sadiel and Renee speak great English and never seemed to have a problem.

We firmly believe that Scubazul made our Cuba trip and had we not chosen to connect with Renee and his crew we would have certainly missed out on an adventure of a lifetime full of passionate, professional, and welcoming people.

“Great Dive School!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2013

Gotta be honest, this guy was ace! Door to sea service with saftey in mind. Well kept equipment and great personality!! Would totally recommend and for newbees....go with this guy and his son! Group sessions are not a patch!

So, after looking at a few reviews of scuba schools in cuba, we went for Rene. It wasn't on our tour and over an hour away from our nearest stop but the reviews were too good to ignore. Not disappointed!! Rene was a real gent! We were, (in our true style) late getting up and filled in the size form incorrectly but Rene was cool as the temperature was hot! We headed off from our place to the dive site in a nice car and were infomed of the detail and history as we travelled. Have to say, Matanzas should be visited! Rene spoke highly of it and you should check out what it means! So, the diving....Ace teaching for beginners, awsome diving with coral and fish. Recommend moskito repellant!! Rene was so accommodating and offered coffee and juice at his house after. We stopped for lunch at a roadside shack that served the best pork sandwich!
Thanks Rene! Would have went again but we were out of cash!!

“Missing certificates”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013

My daughter and son attended a scuba diving course at Varadero last summer. The course was fine, with nice people, - they were very satisfied. The certificates was promised to be sent to us when we came home to Norway. We still havent received them.....
My daughter has tried to contact them via e-mail, I tried to call, and have also sent another e-mail.

My son is now 12, so you can imagine his dissapointment re. missing certificate..

Thank you for your great review. Your 3 stars is puzzling.
You wrote me late last week and I replied to the effect that the club will find the missing certificates or will issue new ones. Please remember that communication and mail with Cuba is very slow & unreliable. Cheers!

“VERY patient teachers!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2013

I go to Cuba every year and this year I took my 3 kids. They have never been diving before and my daughter isnt much of a adventurist to say the least....but she tried it. The guys picked them up from the resort and were very good to them. They came back with smiles on their faces and a camera full of pictures. Thanks again ScubAzul for making my kids vacation that much more exciting. Cheers!!! Im sure we will be back soon.

“Great Time with Club ScubAzul !!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

We had a great time with Rene. He took us snorkeling at Playa Coral and Bay of Pigs. The weather was very good so the viability was excellent - a lovely turquoise, clear water. We seen so many colorful fish and the Coral was fantastic. During our Bay of Pigs trip we had a fantastic lunch at a local Cuban home, where we ate crocodile, lobster, crab, venison and of course drunk a lovely fresh mango juice. Also Rene took us to his house to meet his family, they are really friendly and his sons are very professional and experienced divers. It was a pleasure to be around and we had lots of fun. I highly recommend them: http://www.clubscubazul.com/ I wish them the best of luck.
