“Well worth the extra cost.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

We were at the Iberostar Grand last year and failed to review.
In a short recap
Great staff.
The restaurants and great but make sure you make reservation well in advance.
Steak house isn't the Keg but its still well above most paces I've been.
For the buffet, Where else can you stuff your face with lobster, shrimp, crab and caviar pretty much at every meal?
Just came back from an other hotel down the strip and the food and service was not as impressive at all in comparison.
I actually left 90 percent of a steak untouched and another couple a day before said the same thing.
The locals call it a 5 diamond and it is. Its rated as a 5 Star and by my standard it's a 5 star +.
The bar selection is mid to upscale and once they remember you they will use the liquor of choice without you asking for it.
If you ask for Grey Goose once, they'll continue to serve it without repeating yourself.
For the money, You cant go wrong.

Pet peeve.
Inconsiderate people leaving towels on beach beds and lounge chairs and not using them all day long. The hotel did not address this problem.

This is the third Grand we have gone to - the Grand Rose Hall in Jamaica and the Grand Bavaro in Punta Cana - so there might be some comparing in this review.

To begin with, Mark at Trip Guy once again excelled at arranging our trip. From the private transfers with Lomas Travel, to the pre arranged specialty restaurants, and great top floor Ocean Front suite, he could not do any better. We always count on Mark and Trip Guy for great service and he has never let us down. The private transfers with Lomas Travel were also out of this world and we highly recommend their services. Can't be beat.

Now for the resort. We arrived early and our room was ready for us before noon. We had a welcome letter from Iberostar confirming that Trip Guy was a preferred partner and giving various discounts. We were brought to our top floor Ocean Front suite and had our check in done by the Butler right in our room. He was very friendly and gave us all the information we needed and also phone numbers if we needed the services of a Butler or Concierge for anything. By the way, we have noticed in some reviews that the Butlers are hard to find after the initial check in. This was not our experience. They were available anytime and even at times followed us down the hall to ask if everything was OK and if we needed anything at all. Very friendly and very helpful,

The room is very similar to the Grand Rose Hall. Very clean and well laid out. Plenty of room to store everything, nice bathroom and because we were Ocean Front, a beautiful ocean view. We originally had a problem with the air conditioning not going low enough for us, but this is where the Butlers were great. When we asked that the thermostat be adjusted, it was done quickly and we were able to lower the temperature to what we wanted. When we asked for an earlier make up time for our room, it was done with no problem and the Butlers followed up to make sure we were satisfied. All the services here were great.

The ocean can at times be rough, but we were still able to swim. We saw where some said there were a lot of rocks, but we found that was only on one side of the property. In front of our building, the sand was great and there were no rocks.

The property is larger than both the Grand Bavaro and the Grand Rose Hall, but it is easy to get around and is kept very clean. Carts are available if you need one and we never had anyone say no. As with the other properties upkeep is always being done.

There restaurants are all very good, and the people serving are helpful and happy. If you want something, ask for it and it will be done. This is part of what makes it a 5 star property and what keeps people going back..

We were very impressed with the Grand Paraiso and have always been impressed by the Iberostar properties and services. We recommend these to anyone wanting a great holiday.

Room Tip: Building 70, Ocean Front, is a winner.

First , let put thing into context. This is our 40th trip to a resort, 11 in Mexico and third time at the Grand from January 26 to February 02, 2013. It has became our benchmark in all aspect of the experience of a resort trip. They are bringing service to a level unmatched at any other resort that we know of. The service culture is highly imbedded and filtered thru every and all employes.

Now the specifics :
This is an adult only with concierge and butler service. Room service 24 hours. Spacious room. You stay at 1 but play at all. ( i recommend to try the spa pools at the other resorts )

There is no limit to the number a la carte you can have. Food will vary from very good to excellent at all restaurant and to the buffets. I had lobster every single days and loved it !

The ground and facility are immaculate.

Rooms have all amenities you can think of, including pillow menu and bubble bath prepare for you on demand.

In a nutshell , this is a true 5 stars resort with a 3 diamond service. If you come across some of the following people you will get the first hand service experience.
Lets star with Ricardo the bell boy, then Ioana at the front desk manage ( Absolutely outstanding ) Janine at the front desk as well. Some of the restaurant staff ; Leticia and Oscar the manager at the Italian restaurant. Then Maria, Alfredo, Hugo and Davis at the main buffet. Our butlers Luis , Raul and Rene were always happy to help. One more: Joel our beach towel guy was genuinely happy to help and carry a nice conversation.

I highly recommend this resort , you pay more but it worth more :} And now guess where i will book next year ? Iberostar Grand Hotel Paraiso !

Feel free to contact me if you have some questions ; Martine

^This place is just beautiful. It really feels like you are in a palace here. Just endless marble, grand staircases, sculptures. Somehow, it all still seems tasteful without edging into gaudiness. Every single person we came across was friendly and helpful. I've never had poolside, beachfront, and restaurant waiters come so frequently, asking if we'd like another drink or something to eat.
^We stayed in two different rooms while here. Both were beautifully decorated, with all of the touches you'd expect in a luxury room. We spent the second half of our stay in a beach front room and, I have to stay that this had one of the best views, both from the room AND the lobby, that I've seen anywhere in Mexico. Sitting in the beachfront lobby, with the seabreeze blowing through was so relaxing.
^The beaches were amazing, though it is true that you have to walk to your left to avoid the rocks that are directly in front of the grand. We also noticed there were slightly bigger waves here than we'd experienced up and down the coast. We didn't mind, but some might.
^Our one, very big sticking point was the food here. Everything sounds so delicious. The selections even looked great. Just, nothing had any flavor at all. We love heavily spiced foods with bold flavors and really enjoy experiencing new tastes. There was none of this at the Grand. Everything tasted so boring; politician food - no daring flavors, lest they offend a sensitive palate. If you're the type who thinks of spaghetti as "ethnic food", you may really enjoy the food here. Even worse, we could not find a single authentic Mexican dish our entire stay. Just so disappointing.

My husband and I went to the Grand with my parents and we had a lovely time. My parents stayed in an oceanfront room and it was gorgeous. We stayed in a room overlooking the tranquility pool. Room was equally gorgeous and the view was very pretty, but didn't quite compare to overlooking to ocean!

Rooms: The rooms were spacious, extremely clean and came with about every thing we could possibly want. We knew to ask our butler to lower the thermostat and asked for a bottle of Havana Siete. He said he couldn't bring the siete but he brought a bottle of Anejo which was perfectly wonderful. I said the only other things we would like would be coke and water and they made sure we had lots! The only thing we can complain about is the plumbing. Every time we flushed at the beginning it clogged. After our second complaint the concierge decided we must need a lesson in using a toilet. No, they really just needed to fix it. Fortunately they did. One of the sinks in our room was very slow. I never complained because I didn't want a sink lecture. It didn't stop draining until the last day so it was fine; housekeeping was very good so I was surprised they didn't report the issue. This is why I did not give 5 stars. One area worth mentioning is the balcony. The swing and couch were very comfortable and I loved sitting out in the evening before getting ready for dinner and it was comfy enough that I was not sorry I had to be there when it rained.

Food: Breakfasts were wonderful. I ordered from the menu a couple times but was very happy with the buffet. We tried the different options for lunch. A grill was set up outside Bella Vista most days and we liked the grill but if one of us didn't like the options (my husband is not a fan of seafood) the rest of the options were limited. They had a good pasta bar and salads, etc. in addition to the grill. La Brisas had a much more extensive buffet for lunch in addition to the menu options. Each day the buffets had a different theme. There was also a lot of seafood as well. We went to the commercial center and had tacos and crepes one day; definitely worth the trip- especially the crepes!

Dinner: First of all, we had no issues getting reservations where we wanted when we wanted. I made a couple reservations before we arrived and were able to change some things on arrival, including making a reservation at an a-la carte the day before we wanted it at our requested time (instead of going to the international buffet). We only did one buffet at dinner- the Mexican buffet. It was ok. I wish we had gone to an a-la carte instead (all but L'Atelier were open both “big” buffet nights.). It was perfectly fine but we have some really good authentic Mexican in town here and what we got at The Grand didn't compare. We expected our favorite to be Toni's, but shockingly it was our least favorite. Our favorite was the Japanese; we did not sit at a hibachi table. All of us liked our food and we went back a second time. The shrimp tempura was probably some of the best we had ever had. We had our lowest expectations for L'Atelier but actually enjoyed it very much. Venecia was also very good. Service was stellar our first visit to Haiku, in Venecia and L'Atelier. It was good in Toni's and Haiku the second time. The waiter we first had in Haiku saw us and came over to say hello and it was all we could do not to beg him to take our table! One thing that was different at the Grand than other places was that there were some very good desserts. They had always been a weak spot at other resorts.

We really wanted to order from room service but could not possibly eat another bite outside the 3 meals. Next time!

Bars: Drinks were very good and they did not skimp on the alcohol. I had a couple mornings where I wish they would have :-). The pool bar bartenders were great. Ahleli in the lobby bar was very good and the waitress that came to the billiards room was also very sweet. Some people have theorized that some resorts drain top shelf bottles and fill them with other brands or water them down; I saw them open several bottles at the pool bar, including Grey Goose and Havana and it was clear they were breaking the plastic seal for the first time.

Grounds were gorgeous. The beach was wonderful. Beautiful sand and we just walked to a more clear area in front of bldg 70 and there were no rocks in the water. The waves were pretty rough as we had some stormy weather but I considered the wave-jumping my work-out for the day. We did not have to wake up at the crack of dawn to get seats with shade even though it was relatively crowded. There were always seats at the beach and as long as you were flexible you could get a shady spot at the pool as late as 10am some mornings. The “prime” spots were taken early but I've stayed places where to get shade you had to be down on your chair by 6am. It was not the case here. We like the beach but the weather wasn't great and it got a little windy so we stayed by the pool most of the time. We used all three and each has it's own atmosphere depending on what you are in the mood for.

The entertainment staff- Star Friends- were so friendly and great. They made sure people knew what was happening but weren't obnoxious at all. We got to know Abraham and Eduardo and Carmen and are so glad we participated in some of their activities. We also did the ceviche making class with Olivia (Eduardo was her assistant) and it was not only fun, but yummy!

Tipping is always a big topic on the forums and I am happy to say we saw lots of it while we were there. I never thought anyone was expecting a tip but they were very gracious when receiving one.

Overall it was excellent and we would go back. My parents, who normally do not do AI and have not liked the couple they have gone to in the past said this was the only AI they have been where they would consider a return trip.

We had an excellent time at the Iberostar Grand Paraiso and it is the resort to which we compare all others. The service, the drinks, the food and the amenities were all top-notch.

After a short ride from the airport, we were pleasantly surprised to receive an upgrade to an Ocean Front Suite at check-in. Loved being able to watch a tropical storm over the ocean one evening. Very cool! The included mini-bar was restocked with our choice of small bottles of liquor and a variety of mixers daily. We came back to our room one afternoon to find a bubble bath decorated with rose petals! The daily turn down service with aromatherapy was another nice touch.

We ate at the Japanese restaurant, the Steakhouse and the buffet. The food at each was FANTASTIC! Some of the best food we've had at any all-inclusive resort. The one complaint we had is that there was no place to grab a quick bite for lunch in our swimsuits.

We spent time at all three pools and the beach and were always able to find chairs in the shade. The activities at the main pool were fun and the Star Friends did a great job of getting people involved. Make sure you check out the water circuit at the spa. We spent a couple of afternoons there and had the entire place to ourselves. The beach was expansive and the sand was soft. Sadly, the ocean was too rough for swimming most days we were there.

If you want to be pampered and treated like royalty on your vacation, the Iberostar Grand Hotel Paraiso is the place for you! I would highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a relaxing stay at a luxurious resort.

Room Tip: Stay in an Ocean Front Suite!

Visited the resort with my wife Jan. 26th thru Feb 2nd 2013.
Victor our butler was great. The one issue we had was with scheduling dinners at the resort. We went after check in as advised to reserve our dinner reservations. When we went to book the reservations there was nothing open before 9pm each night. That is late for my wife and i who are use to much earlier nights since we have young children. We ate at the buffet the first few night which had great options. By the time Wednesday rolled around i was ready to dress up a little and go to one of the more formal restaurants. I explained to Victor the issue we were having with the scheduling of the restaurants, he came to me within hours with reservations for 6:30 each night for a different restaurant. To make it even better Wednesday night we returned from the restaurant to a hot bubble bath and wine for 2.
The entertainment team"star team" were alot of fun at the main pool and kept us all laughing, especially abraham and marco, thanks guys.
Hector The bell boy was very informative on where to visit outside the resort and always had a golf cart ready to drive us around the resort.
My only advise is to make dinner reservations when you book your trip and not wait until you get to the resort. The Italian was amazing.
This was our first stay at Iberostar but will not be our last.

Room Tip: We were in the main building (Building 72) It was Quiet and we were central to everything. Wouldn...
