Week of Nov 2 to Nov 9, 2011 - It was our 2nd time at this hotel and it was everything we would have wished for. The accommodation, food, service, entertainment by the pool and in the evening was 1st class. The gym was always and clean and available. The spa experience was out of this world. Highly recommend the Karoke nights. The beach is clean and just beautiful. The staff were very friendly and go out of their way to make sure you are served promptly. There are so many options and activities. You can do as much or as little as you wish. The bed was so comfortable, we had a hard time leaving our room. Its a must go destination and that is way we keep coming back to Riviera Maya.

Room Tip: I think they are all great.

Iberostar Grand Paraiso Hotel

About us – we are a couple in out 50’s. We mostly travel with Apple Vacations. We have been in a lot of 6-apple rated hotels in Mexico (Dreams, Secrets and Riu Palaces) – this one was the best hands down.
Location: - hotel is just a ½ hour ride from the airport. It takes up to 2 hours to get to some of the Riviera Maya hotels.
Beach: wide, white soft sandy beach, lots of umbrellas, soft lounges. The ocean bottom right in front of the hotel has large boulders, but just to the left next to the water sports shack the bottom is all sandy. The water is very clear – you can see your feet and lots of fish in the water.
Pools: huge salt water pool with swim-up bar, serenity (quiet) pool and covered pool inside the spa building.
Room: we had room in building 72 overlooking serenity pool - very convenient to everything. The room is nicely appointed, bed is very comfortable – the most comfortable bed I ever had in the resort in Mexico. Nice large bathroom with his and her sinks. Plenty of shampoos, soaps, conditioner, skin lotion and even anti-mosquito wipes, 2 terry cloth robes and plenty of towels. No slippers are provided – the floors are marble throughout the room, so plan accordingly. 2 separate closets with enough hangers for all your staff. Safe is located in one of the closets. Also mini-fridge full of beer, juices, water and even miniature vodka (Absolut), gin, tequila and rum. TV has just a few English channels – CNN, Fox, Sony and a couple of channels playing old sit-coms. The room was cleaned every day and also turn-down service was provided every evening with 2 dark chocolates on your pillow and fresh towels, etc. Air conditioner in our room was the quietest that I’ve encountered in any of resorts in Mexico.
Food:
Breakfast – all you can eat buffet in 2 places – inside building 72 and next to the beach. The selection is all you can imagine and if do don’t care to walk around the buffet, they also have a breakfast menu.
Lunch – all you can eat buffet next to the beach. Includes a la carte menu with selections like grilled shrimp, grilled lobster and kobe beef burger and/or buffet with lots of selections including desert table with ice-cream bar.
Dinner: 4 restaurants (Gourmet, Surf and Turf, Italian and Oriental) and a buffet 3 times a week – Wednesday (international), Friday (Italian) and Sunday (Mexican).
We visited Gourmet, Surf and Turf and Oriental. Food was good everywhere. Because we visited during the "low season" not all restaurants were open every day, I would recommend to make reservations for all your dinners during your stay as soon as you check into hotel with your concierge – they have all the menus, so you can make an informed decision.
Drinks: several bars at the hotel. Drink selection is top notch – single malt scotch, VSOP cognac Remy martin, Grey Goose vodka, Grand Marnier liquor, etc. Restaurants have a nice selection of wines that are included and a few that you have to pay extra for. Also several varieties of sparkling wines, including French and Spanish. We were always able to find something to drink with dinner without paying extra.
Entertainment: shows start at 10 pm. We only made it to 2 shows - they try hard, but the quality is not there. Lobby bar has live music every evening.
Service: very attentive, simply the best service we’ve encountered in Mexico so far.
This hotel is definitely the best, but it was also the most expensive that we stayed in. If you can afford to splurge – I highly recommend it.

Iberostar, Riviera Maya in July was awesome! Large rooms, huge bathrooms, balcony overlooking the woods. The service is second to none. Food is plentiful with loads of variety. Quality of food is above average. So much to do at the resort. Beautiful clean beach, most amazing pool ever! Lots of chairs and shade. This is a great vacation for families of any age and short flight from just about anywhere in the US. Apple Vacations made the transportation and the excursions easy. I liked this better than a cruise!

Room Tip: Lower level is easiest...no stairs or elevator needed. Expansive resort to walk around.

This hotel far exceeded our expectations. It was fabulous!!! Everything was perfect from flight to finish. The hotel was gorgeous and we were pampered while being treated like gold. Beach was beautiful too. We didn’t have a problem with the rocks at all and the sand was white/soft. Our room was ocean view suite with a Jacuzzi on our balcony. So beautiful. We were stressed with big job responsibilites so we need guidance to plan the honeymoon. Travel websites were making us dizzy. Our travel agent nailed it from flight to finish! Thanks Ted from Excel Travel for mapping out the perfect honeymoon! http://www.exceltravel.com

Room Tip: Worth the extra money for the ocean view.

My husband and I travelled to the Iberostar Grand Paraiso resort the first week of November. The first couple of days we experienced a lot of rain. The staff were amazing trying to keep everything clean and dry. The marble floors can definitely get slippery when wet!

Most of the staff will do whatever they can to make sure you have a wonderful vacation. I got a bad cold after the first couple of days and the butler even offered to have chicken soup made and brought to me. I did have some confusion when ordering room service, but I attribute that to my very limited spanish, and they corrected the problem right away.

The beach at the resort is wide and deep. There are a number of rocky areas, but these are easily avoided when entering the ocean. Unfortunately we had rain or wind during our stay, so we never experienced calm waters.

The food in the four a la carte restaurants was good. Not excellent, but good and better than most all inclusive resorts that we have experienced. The buffets had lots of choices, but by the end of the week everything looked the same, although I always enjoyed my made to order omelettes. We chose to order off the menu more towards the end of the week.

We didn't attend any of the shows, so I can't comment on them. We did enjoy the live music late in the evening at the lobby bar. We also enjoyed the cooking lesson put on by Olivia.

I enjoyed the shopping centre and wandering through the other Iberostar resorts, each with its own atmosphere. I had my first pedicure and was pleased with my resulting soft, pretty feet.

This is a beautiful resort. My only negative is you won't find good Mexican food, we weren't impressed with the Mexican buffet, and the architecture is such that you would not know you are in Mexico.
