We returned from Mexico yesterday, we stayed in the Casitas section, we booked it through Thomas Cook, who were great!
ARRIVAL - we were greeted with a glass of chilled champagne, then asked what section of the hotle we were staying in, as we were staying in the Casitas section, we were escorted on one of the many golf buggies to the Casitas Reception. We were given neck heat pads while we checked in. We were asked if we wanted to open a card with 500 US$, however, we didn't.
ROOM - Our room was a standard 'Casitas' - the main room has your king size bed with mosquito net, double jacuzzi, dressing table and dining table and chairs. Two wardrobes, one with a safe inside. The bathroom has double sink, bath the shower attachement, toilet and door to the outside shower. Plus weighing scales in the wardrobe! 24 Hour room sevice is included and is very, very lovely!
RESTAURANTS - Everyone on here has their personal favourite and I do to - the Kampai, an oriental restaurant that is glass walls with thatched roof.
Breakfast - Cocotal, has buffet and menu, was our favourite for breakfast
- Kampai, menu,
- La Isla, menu
Lunch - Jojo's, Caribbean cuisine,
- Kampai, oriental
- La Isla,international
Gourmet Corners - Healthy Bar (amazing!!!)
- La Cabana Pizzeria
Dinner - Cocotal,speciality,
- D'Italia, italian, nice but don't expect any pizzas in sight, as all courses were gourment, it was a more formal atmosphere in here
- Jojo's, caribbean, on the beach front and occassionaly windy, so wrap up with a cardigan
- Kampai, oriental, the food from starters to deserts were fabulous
- La Isla, international
- La Fondue, gourmet fondue, I do not eat a lot of cheese, owever, the atmosphere and staff were great, plus the desert fondues were lovely!
BARS - There are numerous bars, we only went to a few, the Martini Lounge - yes it is very cool in there, but worth a going to. TheBeach Bar we went to before going to Jojo's, its open air with quite a fun atmosphee. Guacamayas, this has swings in part of it and the other half has a big video screen.
ENTERTAINMENT - as we were in the Casitas section (No 26), we were aware of the beachside entertainment, but didn't do any, nor the evning shows, we heard a couple when we went to a couple of the bars and when walking bac to our room after dinner.
POOLS & BEACH - A lot of people mention the 'beached whale' sand bags and yes there are quite a few, however, the reason they are there is because they haven't got great sea defenses, me personally did not mins them and wasn't there to critisise something that is out of their control. The swim up beach bars around the Casitas were lovely and the four poster beach beds were amazing!
TRIPS - The hotel does courtesy trips into Playa del Carmen and Cancun, plus the reps do excursions, we did the Coba and Tulum tour with our Thomas Cook rep, which was a very long day, but well worth seeing the local sights.
We were celebrating our Honeymoon and can not think of another hotel better - this hotel is in the top 100 of the world and can see why. The grounds are always clean and imaculately kept. We had the candle lit dinner on the beach and this was really lovely - well worth doing if you're celebtating anything! There is a wedding chappen and a number of wedding locations - would be a fantatic place to get married! Imagine the photos!
I would definitley recomend this hotel and will go back!
