Great resort with great staff. The only downside is the lack of atmosphere at night.

We returned from Mexico yesterday, we stayed in the Casitas section, we booked it through Thomas Cook, who were great!

ARRIVAL - we were greeted with a glass of chilled champagne, then asked what section of the hotle we were staying in, as we were staying in the Casitas section, we were escorted on one of the many golf buggies to the Casitas Reception. We were given neck heat pads while we checked in. We were asked if we wanted to open a card with 500 US$, however, we didn't.

ROOM - Our room was a standard 'Casitas' - the main room has your king size bed with mosquito net, double jacuzzi, dressing table and dining table and chairs. Two wardrobes, one with a safe inside. The bathroom has double sink, bath the shower attachement, toilet and door to the outside shower. Plus weighing scales in the wardrobe! 24 Hour room sevice is included and is very, very lovely!

RESTAURANTS - Everyone on here has their personal favourite and I do to - the Kampai, an oriental restaurant that is glass walls with thatched roof.
Breakfast - Cocotal, has buffet and menu, was our favourite for breakfast
- Kampai, menu,
- La Isla, menu
Lunch - Jojo's, Caribbean cuisine,
- Kampai, oriental
- La Isla,international
Gourmet Corners - Healthy Bar (amazing!!!)
- La Cabana Pizzeria
Dinner - Cocotal,speciality,
- D'Italia, italian, nice but don't expect any pizzas in sight, as all courses were gourment, it was a more formal atmosphere in here
- Jojo's, caribbean, on the beach front and occassionaly windy, so wrap up with a cardigan
- Kampai, oriental, the food from starters to deserts were fabulous
- La Isla, international
- La Fondue, gourmet fondue, I do not eat a lot of cheese, owever, the atmosphere and staff were great, plus the desert fondues were lovely!

BARS - There are numerous bars, we only went to a few, the Martini Lounge - yes it is very cool in there, but worth a going to. TheBeach Bar we went to before going to Jojo's, its open air with quite a fun atmosphee. Guacamayas, this has swings in part of it and the other half has a big video screen.

ENTERTAINMENT - as we were in the Casitas section (No 26), we were aware of the beachside entertainment, but didn't do any, nor the evning shows, we heard a couple when we went to a couple of the bars and when walking bac to our room after dinner.

POOLS & BEACH - A lot of people mention the 'beached whale' sand bags and yes there are quite a few, however, the reason they are there is because they haven't got great sea defenses, me personally did not mins them and wasn't there to critisise something that is out of their control. The swim up beach bars around the Casitas were lovely and the four poster beach beds were amazing!

TRIPS - The hotel does courtesy trips into Playa del Carmen and Cancun, plus the reps do excursions, we did the Coba and Tulum tour with our Thomas Cook rep, which was a very long day, but well worth seeing the local sights.

We were celebrating our Honeymoon and can not think of another hotel better - this hotel is in the top 100 of the world and can see why. The grounds are always clean and imaculately kept. We had the candle lit dinner on the beach and this was really lovely - well worth doing if you're celebtating anything! There is a wedding chappen and a number of wedding locations - would be a fantatic place to get married! Imagine the photos!

I would definitley recomend this hotel and will go back!

The El Dorado Royale is a beautiful all-inclusive adult resort, located about 20 minutes from Cancun, in Riviera Maya. With ocean-front views, countless restaurants and pools, and service that can be called outstanding, we found ourselves enjoying beautiful weather in lush surroundings. The casita room we enjoyed had it's own swim up pool, and outdoor shower, and was very spacious, and beautifully decorated. The bed was comfy too, and there was even a bed on our outdoor patio area, in case we wanted to relax in the shade and listen to the waves. The event crew offered a great fire show one evening, and a Michael Jackson tribute show that was worthy of a Vegas billing.
The food was very good, mostly gourmet. Service was a bit slow in some restaurants, but overall the dining experiences were good.

The only real negative in my opinion was the beach. The beach front is very eroded, making the beach area rather small. That would even be okay, if the ocean were not completely unusable. It was full of giant boulders (we believe were put there to break the waves) and rocky coral. It was impossible to swim in the ocean. However, if one wanted to lay on the beach, there were plenty of chaise lounge chairs, and these gorgeous cabanas. And like I said before, there were many swimming pools to enjoy, with swim up bars to keep everyone happy. Be warned - in late November the pool water is chilly.

Overall, we had a great stay in a relaxing atmosphere. The resort itself is beautiful, and I would say the service from the concierges was over and above what we expected. And I have never seen a place where every staff member passes by and says hello. This rivals Disney service expectations.

We went in October of 2008 for our honeymoon for 2 weeks. We had the swim up suite and loved how the lazy river took you right into the pool and upto the swim up bar. Our room was well cleaned everyday and the jacuzzi next to the bed was amazing! The food at all of the restaurants were unreal! We didn't have one bad meal in the 2 weeks we were there. We loved how you didn't have to make reservations and if there was a line up they would give you a beeper and send you to a martini/beach bar for drinks which there was always one close by...so you didn't really mind the wait. The food is pretty high end, so if you don't like fancy food you might not like the restaurants here, however the menues are quite large and there is something for everyone. The entertainment was good and the concierge was very helpful in helping us book in town shopping and events. We loved the salt water pool and went in there more than the ocean. Parts of the beach were a little rocky but there was still plenty of white sand to tan in. My only complaint would be that after 2 weeks the entertainment got a little repetitive but that is why we did some in town stuff like the pub crawl and Tulum & Xel-ha. Also, about 10 days of the 14 we had a group of about 6-8 middle aged people hanging out in our private swim up pool which was kinda annoying since we didn't pay extra to have it filled with a group of ppl who weren't even in the same building...lol. Nice people but it definitely invaded our privacy. I felt bad so we didnt complain, but still wonder how they got away with sneaking into the private areas lol! This was a great resort, we are going back to Riviera Maya soon, but are going to try out another resort, we only hope the one we pick meets up to the high standards of the El Dorado Royale!

Just returned from a trip with a good friend - we each stayed in an individual Casita. The food was surprisingly excellent, service overall great with a couple very minor exceptions (breakfast can be slow in the restaurant - think Mexican time and relax!). Loved JoJo's on the beachfront (gorgeous lunch views, romantic dinner environment); Italia was more formal/traditional with good food. Rooms and facilities were consistently impeccably clean, never found one hair out of place. I had intended not to drink their water or use their ice, but relaxed immediately and had no problems when I saw the attention to detail and quality of the food. Great bars/drinks! This is excellent IF you don't care about how the beach looks or swimming in the ocean, which I found very disappointing. You can wade up to your waist, but will be surrounded by those elepant-size beachbags placed both vertically and horizontally throughout the beach -- can't get beyond 3 feet deep.
As for shopping, skip Playa Del Carmen - not a charming place at all, tacky items in the shops. Puerto Morales just ten minutes north of the resort is FAR more charming and has nice, laid back shops with higher quality textiles/crafts/etc. Took a snorkeling trip thru Loma Travel (the hotel's agent) and, while I was delighted to simply be in a swimmable part of the ocean, this was no trip for beginners--they take you out into the open ocean, which was choppy, and have you go off the boat. Not like the snorkel trips where you float calmly and see lots of brilliant fish and colorful coral, although the guides were nice and we had a good time since we were very comfortable ocean swimmers. If you want a better beach, try El Dorado Morales down the road - it also has the elephant sandbags but we met a guest who said you can walk down to a beach that is unimpeded. I wouldn't return because the beach/swimming experience is important (and it seems that getting married on the beach with those sandbags in the photos is less than ideal there), but if you're happy with a beautiful facility, excellent food and pools, then this is a good bet.
