“Amazing!! Don't hesitate and book ASAP!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2012 via mobile

My wife and I have just arrived back from honeymoon and loved every single minute of our trip.

The room was fantastic. We had a huge room which was always cleaned and turned down at night which was lovely.

The golf carts are a great addition to get around the complex as it huge. We only used it a couple of times but was great fun.

The food is the best we have ever had on an all inclusive. We have had some good and some really bad experiences in the past an this takes it to a whole new level. It was fantastic. We had room service a couple of times as we were being lazy and even that was fairly good.

The drinks selection is very good you can almost have anything u can think of. A huge selection compared to previous locations.

The staff are amazing and can't do enough for you.

We had a great massage on the beech looking over the sea which was great.

We also had the meal on the beech free but they do charge which we thought was a little highly priced considering the food everywhere else is amazing.

We were a bit nervious about another all inclusive but this place is in another league of its own. Fantastic!!

My wife and I booked our Honeymoon trip to El Dorado Royale with Carey at Beach Bum Vacations and it was one of the smoothest trips ever. The resort was very clean and beautiful. The food and service was excellent. The casitas with the swim up bars were well worth the additional fee. The excursions were a little pricey and take up at least half the day. The beaches were great for relaxing and some snorkeling. It's a great resort for honeymooners!!

Where to start??? Arrived at the El Dorado Royale on 1st Dec 2012. The grounds were stunning! Pictures cannot do it any justice!
We were greeted by lovely staff straight away. When arriving at our room there was a damp smell but as this was gone by morning this didn't seem a problem. The beds.... are SO comfy! Mini bar was stocked up every day, you have turn down service at night and usually a little gift by the cleaners during he day.
The weather was beautiful with 2 days in the 2nd week a bit rainy but didn't ruin the holiday at all.
All the staff go out of their way to make sure you are happy with everything. All so welcoming! Very friendly. They all seem very dedicated to their jobs and day and night are working either on the gardens or cleaning - have to say that all the toilets around the complex are very clean!
The restaurants serve lovely food and have quite a lot of choice too which was nice. I would definately reccommend breakfast at the Cocotal as there is so much choice. All the food was beautiful. Kampai was also very nice food for evenings.
Lighting around the complex is very pretty at night, plenty of entertainment during the day and the shows at night are pretty good too.
Going in the sea at the hotel was a nice experience as you get all the little fish swimming around your legs. The beach was beautiful and with the sandbags in the sea it has created a safe zone for people to swim aswel as the obvious factor for them being there, there are plenty of fish which live around the sandbags too. Did NOT think that they ruined the beach at all!
There are plenty of sun loungers and shade on the beach and by the pools for everyone.
We went on 2 trips through Thompson - Isla Contoy which was a bit of a disappointment as we were told that you could tour the whole island when you can only actually go on a very small part of it, although the snorkelling there was very good. We also went on a dolphin trip to Xcaret which i could not fault in the slightest! This was an experience of a lifetime!
We also went to Playa Del Carmen on a free shuttle one evening. It was ok but most of the shops sell the same things. Shop workers also try and collar you to go into their shops too which got quite annoying as you are there for 3 and a half hours.
For the hotel and staff i really cannot fault it! Most people i spoke to on their holidays there had said they have come back or they would definately come back again and i agree with them! Absolutely fantastic!! :)

I will get the only negative bit done first the room ahhhhh old, dated, in need of urgent refurb and very smelly. Damp musty. We did complain and eventually we were moved to another another musty ( not as bad) room in need of refurb.

Now the positive superb staff ESP. Karla at the pizza corner. Entertainment fantastic especially the reggae night ... The food is amazing fish and chips in jo jo's sublime... Location is brilliant . I would recommend this hotel to anyone as long as you have one of the refurbished rooms

The El Dorado Royale was a wonderful experience. My husband and I vacationed there the week of December 9th-14th. With the exception of difficult flight(s), rain everyday, and a room where it was always damp and musty, the rest was great!
The staff was exceptional. The food, especially Kampai, the Asian-fusion restaurant was where we dined for every lunch!
The Italian at both the Casita'a and the Royale was wonderful, as was the pizza, with crispy cracker-like crust. I had mine with goat cheese!
The waves at the beach would lull us to sleep each night. The spa facilities were great, as was the "gym" next to the fuentes pool. The instructor was amazing, caring, and even prescribed a plan for your workout! The entertainment staff gave individual attention in archery, water aerobics and Spainish lessons. Kudos to Dani, Gabbie, Eloy, Martin and JJ. Exotic club was very friendly and professional, without any pressure.
The pools were pentiful, and there were other activities but.......the evening entertainment was lackiing in excitement. We did enjoy the spa, the beach, and the food.

Room Tip: If you are able, spend more money and get a "casita"! They are amazing!

This was my 9th trip to Mexico, first time at this hotel but I have stayed at other Karisma hotels twice before. El Dorado Royale is now my favorite beach resort. They do a really great job with very few missteps. We chose not to upgrade to the casitas after touring them. They are indeed very nice, but we found the standard rooms to be more than fine, and the location was a lot more central to everything; the casitas are far away from every restaurant except the Asian one, Kampai. Although the resort is pretty large, my husband and I walked everywhere. You definitely don't need to rely on the shuttle service if you don't want to. The clientele is about half European (overwhelmingly from the UK) and half American. Therefore be prepared for some topless sunbathing by older people with unfortunate tattoos! Also, we make a point to tip, as people in the Mexican service industry aren't paid a true living wage just like in the US, but it seems like a lot of the patrons did not tip regularly. That is pretty shameful. The service is unbelievably good. Every employee you encounter, from waiters and bartenders to the facilities staff working on the grounds, will greet you warmly and make you feel like you are well taken care of. As far as the food, it was very good overall. The only buffet (or "display" as they refer to it) is at Cocotal for breakfast and it is pretty good: made-to-order omelettes and eggs with lots of cold and hot items. We liked all of the restaurants and felt there was more than enough variety. After volunteering to sit through the presentation on their vacation club, we received the candlelight dinner on the beach, which was nice but probably not worth it if you have to pay for it. I had several treatments at the spa, including massages, a facial, and a body wrap. All were very good and worth the money. We found the beach to be great, in spite of the sand bags. Having stayed at resorts that don't use them, the beach gets eroded and covered with sea grass. At EDR, the beach is wide and great for swimming and snorkeling. Definitely borrow equipment and go to the very southern edge because there is a reef with a lot of different colored fish. The tennis courts and gym were both nice. I have very few complaints. Our room was not ready when we arrived in spite of the resort not being even close to full capacity. We ate and walked around for hours without being able to access our luggage. Also, be prepared for the constant golf courts whizzing by as well as the shuttle buses. The management should figure out a way to restrict the vehicles to some paths and let pedestrians use the other walkways. Also, it is a minor quibble, but they are kind of towel Nazis. There are just a few desks that give out beach towels, and they don't like to give out too many. All in all, EDR is a really nice resort with very good food, excellent service and a nice beach. Do not hesitate to book a stay there.

My wife and I spent eleven nights in El Dorado Royale and we’ve enjoyed every minute of it. I would rate this place as ‘near perfect’. There are so many positive things to say about this resort, that the minor negative remarks almost fade away.

Grounds/Resort Area: Superb! The resort is filled with palm trees, plants, flowers, nice walkways, giant chess boards, hammocks, bars and so on. Everything is super clean.

Staff/Service: Awesome! I have never seen such a hotel staff like the one from El Dorado Royale. The waiters/bartenders treat you almost like royalty. They are polite and very friendly, but not in a fake way. We had the feeling that almost everybody really liked working in that place. Check-in/Check-out went very smooth and housekeeping staff did an amazing job.

Food/Drinks: Amazing! Almost everything we ate was great. There are so many different things to eat, that we were never ‘bored’ throughout our 13day stay. Our personal favorites we’re La Isla for breakfast & lunch, Kampai & D’Italia Casitas for Diner. The food doesn’t only taste great, but It also looks great. I really like the fact that this ‘all-inclusive’ resort makes an effort in their food presentation. There we’re endless cocktail possibilities (and you could choose your own brand/type of wodka/rum) and the white wines from the house were not that bad at all.

Entertainment: During the day there was a lot of stuff to do. Bike tour, cooking glass, wine tasting, air rifle shooting, a lot of different sports and so on. I really recommend the bike tour! Every evening there was a different act. Some were better than the other.

Rooms: We booked the standard Jacuzzi room with garden view. Unfortunately we received a room that was not refurbished. (I think they are almost done with the whole place) The room was still OK, but it could use an upgrade. The rooms are actually quite spacious and the bathroom (w shower) was super. The only big remark I have, is that the walls are pretty thin and that the door doesn’t filter any of the sound on the hallway. The first 8 nights we didn’t have any problems, but during the other 3 nights we did had some issues with the noise. (other guests that don’t mind their voice volume during the night). The beds are great and the minibar is daily filled with water, beer and soda’s. Although the room itself was OK, I would save up to book a casita next time. The area’s around the casita’s are a bit more quiet. (PS: Swim-up rooms are definitely overrated. Some ocean view rooms will have a poor view. Don’t pay top dollar for these rooms.)

Tipping: Tipping is not really expected, however we were happy to give the staff a few bucks as they were doing an excellent job. (breakfast/lunch/dinner we gave 3 to 5 dollars, bartender at the casita’s we gave 5 to 10 dollars per day) We did saw the majority of the guests tipping.

As you can read, you can tell we had an amazing stay. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anybody else. If you have the extra cash, go for a casita. Either way, you will not regret staying at El Dorado Royale.
