We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary here and it was more than we could have imagined! A great resort with outstanding amenities...gourmet meals, private beach cabanas, incredible sunrises, pools, spa, private dinner on the beach, great entertainment...fantastic!

Worked with Beach Bum Sarah to make the trip really special...dont pass up the opportunity to travel from the airport to the resort in a Navigator with a great local chauffeur.

My wife and I wanted to go somewhere for our anniversary and we are happy we went with El Dorado Royale. We have stayed at a lot of different resorts in Mexico and this ended up making it towards the top of our list for resorts in Mexico. The staff was very friendly, the grounds were clean and beautiful and the food was very good. We upgraded to the swim-up room and we were SO glad we did. We found the rooms itself to be just average and could use a face lift but having our own pool outside of our room was so fantastic!! I would say the only complaints we had is the shortage of bottled water and the beach/ocean. We have stayed at other large resorts where they had locations where bottled water, soda and beer were on ice and free to take at any time. My wife and I drink lots of water throughout the day and the only bottled water we were given were six small bottles each day the room was cleaned. We did call room service and asked for more and they did always bring it but still found it disappointing that bottled water was not more available.
For the first time we booked our trip through Beach Bum Vacation and found this experience to be absolutely wonderful!! We got a wonderful deal and they had the option of the anniversary upgrade which not only allowed us to upgrade our room but we also got a free dinner on the beach and a couple's massage along with other gift certificates to be used. Carey was so attentive to our needs and very organized and treated us like we were her only customer and kept in contact with us through the whole process. I highly recommend anyone looking to book a trip to work with Beach Bum Vacations and if you can, request Carey Driscoll. We plan on using Carey through Beach Bum Vacations for our future travels.

I can be very short or very long about this hotel. Everything is just wonderfull, from the pools, the staff, the room and OMG the food.......wauww! We're foodies and for breakfast, lunch and dinner you can eat ala carte every day. For breakfast we're ate at Cocotal buffetstyle wich was super, so many choices too choice from even an chocolate fontain (we're do you see this for breakfast?) and even ala carte if you wanted. Staff we're very very very friendly and recognized what you wanted for a drink. From all of the guests they knew that, amazing! Even at the italian restaurant at the casitas section they knew your name, it was our favorite restaurant. I also loved the healthbar and the pizza's at La Cabana they we're the best i ever had! Everything from the food and the grounds look the same as on the website. The ''standard'' room is perfect, no needed to book an casita room. You're not that much in the room anyways. Standard is big enough with an jacuzzi inside. This was the best holiday ever and i would go back in an heartbeat.

Room Tip: Near Cocotal so you can just walk in for breakfast. Not near the theatre if you want te sleep early...

We have recently returned from the El Dorado Royale after spending 2 weeks there for our 25th Wedding Anniversary. What can I say, this place is superb, the food is out of this world the staff are so friendly, nothing is too much trouble. I know some people have said the sandbags on the beach detract from the experience, what a load of "Tosh", these sand bags are not like the ones in the UK they are massive probably 20 -30' long mostly submerged, from the beach they look a bit like the backs of whales. They have been put there to make it safe it provides good snorkelling and safe bathing. I cannot say enough good things about this place, we had the best holiday of our lives and this will be difficult to top. There are some small alterations going on at the moment as it is there low season Oct but they will be finished very soon and they certainly did not affect our stay. If you like fine dining you will love it. All your trips can be arranged at the resort so you do not have to do the standard "tour operator" tours. Try the dolhin swimming with sea lions and manatees on the island just off the coast of Cancun.

Wow! El Dorado Royale is an Amazingly Beautiful resort! The food is great, pools clean, views amazing, spa wonderful! We got a complimentary upgrade into the Casitas, so that was nice - we will definitely reserve one next time. Overall everything was excellent and we are most definitely going back! I highly recommend this resort to everyone!

Servers/Staff = There were a few servers who weren't that great - a couple of the bartenders who had dud personalities and a server at Cocotol in the morning who is a great singer but a horrible waiter. My one complaint is that we got there around noonish and had just had our wedding the night before, didn't get any sleep and had traveled all morning. We were so tired. We really wanted to get into our room but couldn't until 3p.

Excursions = We went on an excursion to Xcaret and that was a great time - really long day and exhuasting. We also took a cab to Playa del Carmen and had lunch/shopped. We didn't have any problems and everyone treated us very well. We did get offered cocaine in Playa - kinda scary but they were not pushing the topic. They are big hassler's though on the street so be prepared to haggle!

Shuttles = I've seen others complain on here about the golf carts/shuttles. They are not on time, it's really just a "walk and catch a ride if you can" kind of deal. No point in waiting on them or relying on the shuttle clocks. This can get pretty frustrating when it's so hot outside. My thought is to call for one and that way they know you're waiting. There's a shuttle guy who works at night, Francisco, who we called "Juan Montoya". He's hilarious and very courteous!

Moonlight Dinner = We really didn't have a bad meal. We personally, would not pay for the moonlight dinner on the beach. It was included in our honeymoon package but the food was not that great - probably the most sub-par meal we had while we were there. I think that once the food gets from the kitchen to you it's overcooked and lacks flavor.

Food = Please be advised that a lot of the portions are small at the restaurants. Meaning you need to kind of graze through your meal - do a soup/salad, appetizer to share, etc. For American's you really have to order a lot and feel like a glutton - but they don't care - it's all inclusive!
D'Italia - Surf & Turf - get the filet and shrimp & the lobster lasagna.
Kampai - wonderful food; get the spring rolls, try a few different sushi rolls - you only get 4 pieces and they're smaller than the states but all were great; miso soup was great; My husband liked the chicken meal over rice and I liked the wok fried noodles with chicken and steak.
Cocotol - best place to eat breakfast, lots of options on buffet.
JoJo's - really good calamari & quesadillas.
LaIsla - good place to go for lunch, they have a salad bar and lots to choose from on the menu.

Room Tip: Casitas are awesome!

Me and my husband stayed at the El Dorado Royale 19th - 26th Sep!! We were amazed the moment we stepped into the main reception. We had a beauitful suite in the casitas section of the resort.

The service and food is outstanding we could not fault any of it!! (Those who do must just moan for the sake of moaning!!) We were treated like royalty!! I recomend Cocotal restaurant for breakfast, JoJo's Seaside Grill (Caribbean Fish and Chips, Texan Burger, Mexcian Burger, Chilli Nachos, Steak) or La Cabaña Pizzeria for lunch and Rincon Mexicano (Slow cooked brisket, and the entire menu!! : )) for evening meal!! The others were really nice too but they were our favourite ones. We also had dinner on the beach which was included in our honeymoon package that was really nice and would recomend couples to do this even if it is not included.

The resort was kept clean and tidy at all times and the staff were really friendly.

We also enjoyed a couples massage on the beach front platforms which was very nice and relaxing. This was included in our honeymoon package but would of paid the extra if it wasn't as it was worth it.

Really pleased and worth the money, no complaints!!

Before we went I did see some bad comments on here and wasn't sure what to expect!! I have been to many places from 3 star to 5 star and the El dorado Royale is 5 star in my eyes!!

Cocktails; Tropical Coconut, Electric Lemonade, Mayan Mojto, Mango with rum!!

Have fun and enjoy, we did!! : ) Oh and give our love to Hector the Protector in Rincon Mexicano (Honeymoon couple from England who he gave a meal to on our last night which we will never forget!!)

My husband and I went to the El Dorado Royale for our honeymoon this June. It was beautiful. The staff there is so willing to help you in any way you needed and they made sure that you had an incredible stay. They were extremely friendly and happy. It is all inclusive so you don't have to worry about money once you arrive which was nice. There a tons of different activities, restaurants (there is a large variety and it was delicious and there was never a wait), and pools (with swim up bars) that are sure to keep you busy. It was never very crowded so it was very romantic, we had a blast. The main complaint I would say was that they were hit by a hurricane a few years back so they have this big sand bags a little ways off the beach to protect from erosion that weren't the pretty to look and but they didn't ruin anything for us. There is also plenty to do at night.
We booked it through Beach Bum Vacation agency. They were very easy to work with and were honest with their input. Because we booked with them (Our adviser was Carey, carey@beachbumvacation.com) we managed to get a triple upgrade for free so we had an amazing swim-up jacuzzi suite. We could literally swim from our patio to the closes pool plus we had a private little wading area. Our room was also just feet away from the ocean. Beach Bum Vacation also set us up with the honeymoon package so we got a romantic dinner for two on the beach and a private couples massage. They really helped complete our vacation. Happy vacation hunting!!
