“Way to go when in Mexico!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

If you are traveling to Mexico, then an all-inclusive is the way to go....and if you are going the all-inclusive route, then Iberostar is the STAR to choose.
We have stayed at the Iberostar Lindo a couple of times....and it was a great experience. This trip our families stayed at the Maya...and it was also good.
They share some of the same facilities, pool, restaurants...but have a few other exclusives as they are the next step up in the Iberostar family.
Beaches are nice, all-inclusive is great. Enjoy!

Room Tip: Suggest to choose a room closer to the check-in area. Restaurants are mostly in the same area as we...

You will want for very little in this hotel, one of 5 on th paraiso campus, and the 2nd most lavish after the adult only Grand. Sharing a pool with the Lindo and having access to all of the Lindo's speciality resteraunts results in a lively resort for families and a choice of more than 10 places to eat each night. A large theatre provides nightly entertainment of a cheesy but professional and suprisimgly highly produced standard. The almost continuous buffets are of a high standard comparable with international hotels in Las Vegas, and whilst the specialty resteraunts provide welcome variety (and in the case of the Japanese resteraunt no small amount of theatre) those who are expecting genuinely gourmet or Michelin starred food will be dissapointed. In particular the French resteruant let down in this respect, with for example the Brie being substituted with something more akin to Manchego , nothing actually wrong with it, just not Brie, not French and not what I asked for or expected.

The complex also features two nightclubs, one for teens (empty) and one for adults (full of teens) a burger bar, a crepe cafe, an ice cream parlour, a beach grill bar, a taco place etc. etc. all included within your all inclusive deal, which is particularly good for those with kids who get tired of the continual expenditure of a more conventional holiday.

The bars are well stocked with recognisable quality brands such as Bombay Saphire and Glenfiddich all included in the deal.

A lot of Americans drinking frozen cocktails in the pool bars and leaving them half finished all around the pools, and an annoying tendancy of fellow guests to reserve poolside and beach side beds with towels before breakfast (why don't the management just clear them all away if the beds are not being used??), and the always slightly ominous expectation to tip frequently (although only modestly, I am British and once I have paid I hate paying again for the order to be taken, then poured, then cleared, and then accompanied by a complimentary snack etc. are the only slight irritants even after two weeks in the resort.

A fantastic beach and of course the Carribean sea, complete what constitutes by most peoples standards a great value and high quality family beach holiday.

Came back few days ago...Family of 3. Had a great time. Initially had a reservation to Lindo but upgraded to Maya. The upgrade was well worth it. You get so much more at Maya. 1. all rooms are junior suites at Maya and all buildings have elevators. 2. you have a completely different buffet than Lindo. Everyday lobsters, mussels, jumbo shrimps and 3-4 different kind of fish. We have been to both buffets and Maya is definitely better selection wise. 3. You have unlimited access to SPA. SPA has very nice stream rooms, hot jacuzzi and hot salt water pool. If you in Lindo you have to pay $35 per person. 4. Access to more restaurants like steakhouse,etc.. 5. Sport bar with pool tables, big screen TV...Overall fantastic hotel...

Room Tip: building 60 is the closest to the beach...

Really enjoyed our stay. Everything went perfect for our first time to Mexico. The property is beautiful, the staff friendly, rooms clean, and the food was pretty good most of the time. Enjoyed how large the resort was because we enjoy walking. Beach area is kept very clean. Would definitely stay here again. The only thing that would make it nicer would be if they would get better mattresses...ours were hard but we asked for the mattress toppers and then it was fine. We never had to wait in line for anything and making dinner reservations wasn't a big deal...we ate anywhere we wanted to. The staff here is just super friendly!

For me who has traveled the world, this has been one of the best trips ever! My husband, who has only driven to another state, was amazed at our experience. We were treated like a king and queen. The grounds were beautiful, even better than the pictures online. The meals were amazing, and the drinks wonderful! The service was wonderful too! In the beginning of our week in paradise, we stayed at the Maya, and then choose to upgrade to the Grand (the couples only resort). Boy was that an amazing choice. It was great being at the Maya and seeing all that there was to offer, seeing the shows and being by all the pools, but the Grand was a whole different feel! It felt like you were on your own beach! From a personal butler, to absolute quiet beautiful beach beds, it was pure heaven. The best honeymoon spot! I do not regret a thing! The butler did something very special for us being on our honeymoon and it really made it memorable! I would recommend the Iberostar Grand and the Maya to everyone traveling to the Cancun area! Its worth every penny!! It was the off season too so it was nice to have it not so crowded too! Please visit this place! You will leave a whole different person and a whole different couple!

There are many reviews that basically say it all: this is a great place for a family vacation. Ample territory to walk around, lots of pools, bars and restaraunts to enjoy and of course an amazing beach.

We have stayed in the last week of August in building 61. The walk to the main lobby area was about 7 minutes with a 11 month baby who prefers to walk holding hands. No big deal.

Bars:
1. Snake bar was THE best by far. Staff was always friendly and if you tip them by the second day they will make your drinks the way you like, without you asking for top-shelf alcohol. Try Banana Margarita and Island Gin(with raspberry and mint leaf)

2. Pool bar and wet bar weren't as great by they were OK.

3. The Lindo lobby fish bar was very good as well.

Restaraunts - we have been only to three of them, mainly because we had an infant and Japanese place may be a little overwhelming for a small baby, yet the French is only for kids 12 and older.

1. El Tapatio (Mexican) - OK food, but very few options, considering it could have been an authentic Mexican. Choice is limited to Tacos and fish (all of which can be had at the buffet or shopping center).

2. La Marina (sea food) - fish was superb, while shrimp and lobster were just OK. We felt it was a little "uptight".

3. El Rancho (steakhouse) - been there twice. Medium-well tenderloin and ribeye were made just perfect (little pink but as someone said at the table next to us "No Dracula"). When we went there we were expecting charred rubber (based on reviews we have read) - this was not the case.

Swimming pools and the beach were clean and well maintained. In fact the entire resort area was being washed and swept constantly. Which was, quite frankly, very surprising.

The issues:

1. Our room had the balcony lock broken. Upon request it was not fixed. Throughout our stay the staff ignored the issue.

2. One of the sinks was also not working when we arrived. Maintenance guy never showed-up either. Yet we asked our maid the next morning and she fixed it herself.

3. Concierge service - not sure if they are poorly trained or just not interested but we thought that they are rather useless:
a. 3 out of 5 reservations we made had issues as the hostesses could not find us on their lists. (The fourth to the Brazilian was made for the wrong day, so we did not go.) Nevertheless we were penciled-in and sited right away.
b. They do not know much about the restaurants in sister resorts where you have access as Maya guest. So do your homework beforehand. If you do not know where YOU want to eat they cannot advise.
c. When making the reservations they make it appear that there are almost no tables available. However, all of our dinners were in restaurants which weren't even half full.

Frankly, we thought it would be nice for concierges to have a list of all restaurants and their respective menus, so that you may make a better choice of where you want to eat.

Safety tips: Keep all your valuables in a locked safe. Even in NYC your iPad or $5000 camera may get "lost" if left sitting on a table of an empty room.

Also, if the presence of children annoy you, you might want to skip Maya and go to Grand next door for adult only vacation.

The pros by far outweigh the minor issues, which may be present anywhere you go. This is a GREAT place to stay and enjoy your time off. Food is great and plentiful, drinks are excellent, property is gorgeous, the beach is pristine, staff is courteous and attentive.

We will definitely be back again and will recommend to our friends!

We spend 2 weeks here at the hotel, this was our 2nd time in this resort complex, (del mar the first time).
First impressions, WOW, the lobby is quite big and has some lovely stone sculptures in it that are imitations of maya artefacts. personal check in desk for all and we were greeted with a drink and a cool towel to freshen up. it's the little things that count, and the towels were welcomed.

We checked in no issues and we're given a map of the resort and were advised about the concierges in each block for booking dinner reservations at the a-la-carte restaurants, as this is the Maya you get unlimited bookings and can use the entire complex, this made it a lot easier for booking.
4 of us went, myself and partner and my 2 teenage sons, the boys had their own room, two double beds in and we had a massive over queen size, very comfy if not a little on the hard side but this suited me as I have a bad back and prefer the harder, large bathroom with spa bath, separate shower and a little lounge area. tea and coffee in the room and a mini bar. all spotless
Everything was perfectly manicured and the staff worked tirelessly to ensure it stayed this way.
breakfast was lovely, either at the poolside buffet or near the Maya reception, everything was there from cooked to fresh fruit. lunch if you want it is at the poolside or on the beach, both are lush, the beach is a lovely setting and completely relaxed, nice just to chill, evening meals at the a la carte restaurants need booking at the concierge, these are located on the bottom floor of all the blocks of suites. We visited the Steakhouse, Japanese the Mexican, the Gourmet and the French, all were great and the service for the most part was outstanding, things were let down by one waiter who made the entire evening a farce. I am not an unreasonable guy and can let most things slide, I'm on holiday and really can't be bothered complaining but when we are basically forgotten about, when we were attended to our order was wrong, from the drinks to the food, nothing was correct. I spoke to the waiter about this and asked if there was something the matter as 3 hours is unacceptable, 1.5 with empty glasses and dirty plates on the table is very bad, he said no smiled and them proceeded to walk away swearing at us in spanish under his breath, i suppose in the hope that we wouldn't either A hear him or B understand, now as my partner is spanish we understood perfectly and immediately challenged this, in the ensuing fuss the manager came over and was extremely apologetic changed our waiter for the rest of the evening and made sure the rest of our evening was as lovely as it should have been, he even sent us off with a couple of bottles of expensive wine from the pay for wine list.

the beach is lovely, white sand and blue blue sea, amazing fish round the coral reef if you go out that far, the beach bar is very handy as is the buffet there if you don't want to go back to the main complex if your peckish.

plenty to do, the lazy river is a total godsend as it gets very VERY HOT. all good though,

Booked through First Choice and was more than happy with them, far far better then their competitor who I will not name however part of their name is a famous captain who discovered Australia.

loved this so much we are off again next year :)

Room Tip: complex is huge, you can get lifts everywhere on the golf buggies that are zipping around everywhere...
