Very beautiful hotel. I loved that everything was open to the outside. It was indeed a tropical paradise. You can sit in the hotel lobby bar and feel as if you are outside enjoying the most beautiful weather and scenery of peacocks, geese, and flamingos. Our check-in experience went very smoothly and were even handed drinks upon arrival. Our room was very clean and supplied with a mini-bar stocked daily with water, beer, and sodas. The maid service was excellent and on most days they spread flowers throughout our room giving us that little special touch that put a huge smile on my face. I was really hoping for a beachfront room but the price was way too much more so I did worry about the location of our room; however that ended up being no big issue; we were in the 1800 bldg. We were just a short walk to the beach or pool. For those who did not want to walk or couldn't for a long distance they have a very convenient shuttle service that were constantly running up and down the street, and for those who complained that they did not, well all you have to do is call for one. As far as the food: we had dinner at 3 of the specialty restaurants; The Steakhouse, which was awesome-get the tenderloin; the Italian, which was not so good; the Brazillian, which I wasn't impressed either. The buffets had an assortment of food so if all else fails there is always salad, bread, and ice cream. All-in-all the food was just okay, but it was convenient and included so I am not complaining. The drinks are full service and were really good. At first I was convinced that the alcohol was watered down from another review I read so I tried just shots to test that theory. Well, I am here to say that is a good way to get drunk because watered down or not it has the same effect. We found that being on the weak side is a blessing when you throw hot sun into the mix. There were several things to do on the resort itself and there is an info board with a schedule of activities. The staff was all excellent and very friendly and eager to make your stay fantastic. The hotel staff worked so hard that even though tips were included in our package I could not help but to give more as we went. Kudos to everyone there and thank you for making our stay wonderful. I was worried because this was my first trip out of the USA and this resort made that transition smooth. The room safe was very convenient and easy to use. If you plan on taking a trip to Chichen Itza just know it is a 3 hour bus ride, but definitely worth seeing one of the 7 wonders. I do wish there was more than 1 hot tub on the premises. This is a family resort but taken at the right time it is excellent for couples, too. My husband and I traveled on a non-spring break week and the crowds were not bad at all. We did have an issue finding a place to sit at the pool in shade, but not an issue at the beach. Thank you so much Iberstar staff! If we ever go back you will definitely be our resort of choice as long as the price still remains fair.
