I stayed at Iberostar Paraiso Lindo as part of a group there for a wedding for less than one week. There are four Iberostar resorts right next to each other there, the Mayan, the Lindo, del Mar, and Playa. The "all inclusive element" applies to any and all of them, so if you find yourself liking a restaurant from a different Iberostar, then you can reserve and eat all your meals there! This is something I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND if you do find something you like, because for the most part the food is bad. The best dishes I ate were in the Mexican Restaurant (go figure!) and if I had it to do over again I would just book all my dinners there the moment I arrived. The buffets for breakfast and lunch leave much to be desired - the fruit is good, there are cereals available and it appeared the "chef" would make you an omelet if you went and asked for it, but it wasn't an advertised option. I found myself creating huevos rancheros almost every morning for breakfast from the items on the buffet, and for lunch it was nachos with pico de gallo and guacamole. I got pretty tired of these items by the end of our 5 day stay! If you are a health nut, consider a fast for your stay, or perhaps a fruit only diet... you'll be fine.
Our room was a "standard" with two queen beds and the typical desk, chair, tv... nothing special. I will say, there was a hole in the tiles of the bathroom stuffed with some tissues and I killed a cockroach in that room too - but I sang the la cucaracha song to him first (I'm not entirely heartless). When you feel how humid it is there in July (my first visit this time of year) you are not surprised to see a few critters here and there. As for critters, there are a lot of cats on the resort - they like people, and some are more mangy looking than others. Generally I tried to avoid them but my friend wasn't so cautious and to my knowledge she hasn't acquired any weird mexikitty disease. There are also these strange critters around that look like the lovechild of a racoon and an anteater - avoid these. They will get all up in your business if you look like you have food, and I did see a guy get bitten who apparently couldn't read all the "do not feed the animals" signs.
The property for the Lindo is lovely - and all the other Iberostar resorts too - that are on either side of the Lindo. This place IS NOT for you if you do not like to walk. You can easily walk 100-300 yards to get to the restaurant where you have dinner reservations, and for us, it was at least 150 yards from our room to the lobby on the Lindo resort. One of the jokes we started to make when we'd ask the concierge at our building (we stayed in #51) where something was - they always answered "just follow the path..." or "it's by the pool." in some variation or other. Mind you, there are pools and paths EVERYWHERE on all 4 resorts. One thing I figured out that was helpful - each of the 4 resorts has a differently shaped lantern on all of their paths, at probably 25 yd intervals, so at least you know if you've wandered off your given resort!
If you are an internet addict - forget about this resort! Even if you pay $15-$20 a day and have your own laptop, you have to basically sit in the lobby to get the internet - there is none in the rooms. If you are like me and just want to check your email 1-2x a day, you can pay $3 for 15 min and use one of four computers provided at the hotel - mind you if you really miss your 1990 HP desktop pc, you are in for a treat.
Some tips:
1. Bring baby powder if you are staying in the summer months. Read: walking=chafing.
2. Bring your own hair dryer - the ones there look to be made from the same parts as the pool cleaning equipment I saw being used and work about as well.
3. If you have small children, be careful on the beach as the surf can get big.
4. Bring hand sanitizer.
I don't want to sound like Negative Nancy, so here's what I liked - the pools and property are really nice, clean, family friendly and impressive. It was obvious the kids there with their parent were in hog heaven. The bartenders are generous, and friendly, as are 95% of the staff. The beach is really gorgeous, and it's easy to spend the entire day there under a palapa. Generally, I think this resort is geared more towards families w/kids, and less for singles or seniors.
