“Great resort - here's some FYI's”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2011

We stayed here for 7 days early March 2011. I don't want to be redundant since other reviews have it right, but here is some more specific useful info:

- The beach has plenty of chair / umbrellas, we always found something good without having to wakeup 5am
- This side of the riviera has waves, its not still. Bring a booggie-board since its really expensive to rent/buy.
- Massages are really expensive, its $95 per person for 1 hour swedish
- Renting jet ski is $80 for 1/2 hour non-negotiable
- The rooms are nice, but nothing special. You won't be impressed if you stayed elsewhere. The showers are actually quite strange since the shower head is on opposite wall from drain and controller
- The hotel is veryyyyyyyyyy big - prepare to walk a lot!
- There are many restaurants but the best are French and Japanesse. Skip Italian - very bad, Steak place got mixed reviews, and Seafood is no good.
- This is the cleanest hotel we've ever seen - they are ALWAYS cleaning everywhere. Even when we came back to room at 4 am from the disco they were cleaning pools.
- Very family friendly resort - kids everywhere!!! If you dont like kids, dont come here.
- Our room did not allow us to order movies. There were only a few crappy channels to watch between beach time and dinner time.
- Although its very family friendly, the night club there is great, very impressive for a resort. It was lots of fun, people of all ages.
- Get shots of "Tequilla boom boom" - goes down smoothly and will get you tipsy quickly.
- Go to Coco Bongo, they sell tickets at towel place. Its $80 per person with transportation. Its a mix of night-club and variety shows. Great time!
- Those animals on the bridge to the beach bite, be careful, don't feed them. If you clap loud at them they will run away.
- Spa is $30 to enter if you dont get massages, etc.
- Be careful running into the ocean - some limited places with rocks which you cant see. They should really mark this area with flags - but its small - nothing to worry about, but be careful.
- The nightclub has disco night - lots of fun, must go!
- French restaurant (one of the best) apparently doesn't allow kids.
- AMAZING SERVICE at this hotel
- Decor, landscaping, etc. AWESOME

My wife and I had never been to vacation in Mexico. We decided to go all inclusive and make it easy. On the reccomendation of our travel agent we ended up at the Lindo. We paid a little extra for direct private transportation to and from the hotel. In my opinion, well worth it.

The place is outstanding, very clean, very nice. our room was great. I will say, like other postings about the bed.. it is the firmest bed I have ever slept on. You can get a matress pad / cushion if you request it.

24 hour rooom service, full mini bar, great places to eat and drink.
Huge pools everywhere, the beach was great.

We were there at the prime of spring break, and I found it to be very relaxing and quite The Lindo is one of 5 resorts in the complex. The better the place you stay at, the more amenities you can do at other resorts.
Beach and Del Mar are the more economy resorts... but on our walks around... they are very very beautiful. I could stay at them with not problem.
Lindo and Maya are the next two in the pricing, and the Grand is the grand daddy of the resorts.

Tips:
--Get our early to reserve your pool or beach chair. You put your towel and a shirt or magazine, or something to identify it as yours. We never had to much problem getting a chair on the beach, but the better sunny pool chairs started to get reserved by 7:00am or so.
--Bring a travel mug that you can use and leave at the resort when you are done with it.
--Make your dinner reservations.
--By the way.. every building at the Lindo had a concierge to help you with reservations and anything else you need.
--Don't worry about the language barrier, there really is none, you will be fine.
--Enen though you don not have to tip.. do it.. it goes a long ways.
--American Dollars work fine. - you will need your passport at times to get change.
--The hotel has people come in to sell items a couple times a week, so you really do not have to go to town to buy some trinkets, etc..
--Great hotel run shopping center you can walk to, or take the shuttle.
--Bike tours, snorkeling trips for $40.00, para sailing, kayaks, sail boats, lots to do... you can even do a free intro scuba dive in the hotel pool a couple times a day.

The only funny thing I saw was the entertainment at the "Theatre" as they call it. It is free of course, but it is kind of like bad Mexican television live on stage.... I did go see it every night, kind of like a train wreck, you can't take your eyes off it. LOL.

There were many families with all ages of kids. My wife and I had no problem as a couple on vacation, and never felt like we were at a day care. People were fabulous.

So couples or families... I can highly reccomend the place. We are going to bring our 3 kids back next year.

Just returned from a 5 day trip with my husband and two year old son. I honestly cannot say enough about this resort. This was my 6th trip to Mexico and I have stayed at all -inclusive resorts each time. This was by far the most beautiful resort and I could not have been happier with our choice of hotel.

The pools were INCREDIBLE! As other reviews mentioned, the pools are colder than most resorts but it may be due to the sheer size of them. They are enormous! Nonetheless, my son loved them and we would stay in for hours!

The lazy river was also a favorite for us and the wave pool. We also visited the kids area at least once a day!

The beach is gorgeous and the water is amazing. One day during the week, they have a beach party which was alot of fun.

We loved the shopping complex across the street --it is part of the resort and the food is also included there. We ate the tacos there almost everyday for lunch- the best! While I am talking about food, the Japanese Hibachi restaurant (located in the other Iberostar resort next door) was our favorite and it was hard to get a reservation. We had to go at 9:00 pm which was not ideal with a young child. It was worth it though and he enjoyed it as well. The steak restaurant was also pretty good. The Italian was not great in my opinion and we did not go to the gourmet restaurant or the Cajun restaurant. The buffets for breakfast were delicious.
I did alot of research before booking this trip and I assure you that you will not be disappointed. We have stayed at RIU resorts there as well as Fiesta Americana and others. Iberostar is gorgeous and in a league of its own. We will absolutely be returning!!

Our second visit to the Lindo, previous one was three years ago. Unlike returning to previous locations this had not changed. The hotel, grounds and service are brilliant. The only downside is the food - gets a bit repetitive after a week, but you do have the speciality restraurants to go to and you make your own favourites and rebook if you want to. You couild not fault the staff and we found the other guest were always friendly.
A great place to go and you have the use of the facilities at the other three hotels on the complex when you stay at the Lindo.

One other thing is to make sure you are fully insured for travel and sickness. My wife had to stay one night at the hospital and the basic charge is 2,000 US Dollars before anything is done and then additional charges when you leave. A big payment if you do not have ready cash in the bank. Holiday insurance is a godsend but we had to reclaim when we returned to the UK.

We have been all over the Caribbean and we absolutely love Ibero Lindo. The service is impeccable, the grounds are beautiful, the staff is friendly. As you would expect from a 4 1/2* property, they go out of their way to accomodate your requests.

The rooms overlooking the pool area seem to be kept a little better than the courtyard rooms, and we do tip the housekeeping every day - which ensures lots of clean towels and little extras like turn down service with flower petals and chocolates. We've also noticed that the Lindo is a little quieter than the Del Mar next door. The Del Mar pool area is also gorgeous, but more of a party atmosphere. The entire grounds are quiet at night.

The grounds are big enough and landscaped so that it never feels crowded, always plenty of pool chairs, even out at the beach. My teenage son has done archery, rifle and scuba. My teenage daughter loves painting pottery on the beach and the shops across the street.

Easy 20 min cab ride into Playa del Carmen. $20. Easy to book trips to ruins, snorkeling, Eco parks, etc on the premises. Use Olympus Tours!

We had a fabulous vacation from Feb 25 to Mar 4, 2011. I don't want to repeat what all the other reviewers have said, so will just make points of what I thought may help some other travellers.

+ we booked thru sell off vacations the transat package. It was $1449 taxes in direct out of Thunder Bay. We asked our agent to ask for rooms in the same building, ground floor
closest to the beach.

+there was 9 of us total, one 10 yr old, one 79 yr old and the rest of us between 40 and 50's.

+we made arrangements by calling Can jet directly and asking for more legroom for
my dad who had hip surgery and another traveller who needed the extra room. There
are nine seats at the front of the plane reserved for this purpose. The person with the
"disability" and an assistant was allowed to book these seats, between 2 and 9 rows,
at no extra charge. No doctors note was required.
If you want the front row at no charge, with tons of leg room, providing a doctors note will get you this row at no charge.

+canjet accepts credit cards for on flight service only. No cash. They charge for pillows, blankets, and earphones.

+bring a pen to fill out documents on the plane

+we brought U.S. dollars and never changed our money into pesos. The hotel on check in advised us no stores on the resort accept U.S. This is NOT true.
We tipped in U.S. and the staff were very grateful. You do need to show your passport at
the check in counter if you are paying with U.S.
We just charged anything to the room, like the one time we paid for internet.

+go to the Mayan hotel lobby and bar for FREE internet service.

+bring a few hundred dollars in ones to share with these grate people.

+hotel lobby bar the best drinks.

+ask for a fire coffee. The bartender at the lobby bar will put on an amazing show.

+we left little gifts and $5 daily on our pillow daily for the maid. There were sometimes different maids each day, so I would recommend tipping a few bucks daily.

+we hopped a van at the end of the hotel road, the highway, to Playa del Carmen for $2
each. Be careful, you have to cross the road to get in the right direction towards Playa.

+all of the a la cartes were fabulous. Book right away so you get your ideal times. Especially the Japanese. The Japanese and the Seafood were our favorites.

+looking for chocolate tequilla, it was difficult to find in Playa and the airport didn't have it
at duty free either.

+ideal gifts to bring back for us was vanilla, and different candy.

+yes, even though there were signs up, everyone reserved seats if you wanted a hut at
the pool or the beach. We were up at 6, and took turns reserving amongst us, so we
could be all together

+ice cream bar a hit

+lazy river was refreshing for all ages.

+the transat bus to take us to the airport that was supposed to come at 8:20 a.m. came early, so bus was waiting for us.

+have ones readily available to tip at airport

+problems in two of the rooms with the safe, and key error. Certain numbers would stick so we had to call maintenace several times.

+huge resort, but the carts were readily available when you called.

+mexican restaurant is directly across from the pool on the 51 block end.
We walked 20 minutes around only to find it was directly across from our room

+long pants are a must at the a la cartes

+no children under 12 allowed in the french restaurant. Can't tell a white lie either, they
have it on record via passport.

+the Grand iborostar beside has limted tours that you can book thru your concierge.

+concierge at each building

+ we loved the "spaniol cheese" that was only out on Sat at the main buffet for breakfast. However we asked for it specifically, and it was brought to us. It has a black
rind to it.

+the only thing that took long was the toast in the morning, you would have to put it thru twice to get it golden. We had a system. One person would make the toast while the others would get the eggs fried fresh or the omellettes made fresh.
I would recommend the eggs freshly made for you.

+the bananas were so sweet! Loved them!

+fed the cotes, even though we were told not too. They were climbing all over my legs,
scratching them. You feed one, and there are 50 at your feet in seconds.

+Would go back in an instant! The people were fantastic!!

We stayed at this resort in the summer of 09. The staff is amazing and will do anything they can to make your stay more enjoyable. The "star friends" get you involved in activities and would actually wait for us to arrive before starting a beach volleyball game. By the end of our stay they knew our name, went out of their way to talk with us, and even went into town to Coco Bongo at night! Amazing service does not even sum it up!

My fiance celebrated his birthday at the resort. Without us knowing they had set up a special birthday dinner with an awesome dessert, sang happy birthday to him and even set up our room with birthday decorations.

I felt completely safe visiting Tulum and Xel-ha (definitely recommend this excursion!) and town to shop. The hotel has a very cheap shuttle into town and you can do some souvenir shopping and spend an afternoon exploring town. I even walked several miles on the beach and felt very safe.

I could go on and on about how wonderful this resort was but please try it for yourself. The staff and accomodations were amazing and far exceeded our expectations. You will not be disappointed!
