“Grand Luxxe Revisited”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

We are Grand Luxxe Spa Tower owners but have been going to the resort since its beginning with the Mayan Palace accommodations. The resort is growing and many new and exciting things are supposed to happen, i.e. a Beach Club for Grand Luxxe members, a Water park for everybody, a Circ d' Soleil venue across the Highway with additional lodging, all connected by shuttle or train service (projected). Not all the developer's ideas are happening, but something new is always in "the works".

The Grand Luxxe suites are wonderful, spacious and immaculately maintained. The staff throughout the resort is courteous, friendly, professional and helpful.

The restaurants all provide wonderful food (our opinion) and it is hard to choose each day where to go. We enjoyed the daily buffet breakfast at Havana Moon or the even more elaborate one at Del Lago. Frida's has very good Mexican dishes and Tramonto's Prime Rib night on Tuesdays is always a special treat.Green Break becomes Taco Break in the evening with very nice, fresh made taco dishes. If one wants an inexpensive resort, then this might not be the one, but even then one can live economical by shopping at the Jade Deli for breakfast and lunch items and sharing restaurant food portions which is never a problem with the wait staff.

Most people who write reviews for this resort have bad comments about the sales presentation. I agree, it is always long and the sales pitch is strong, but one can walk away with a smile and say "thank you" or, like in our case actually purchase.

If you have questions, please don't hesitate to send me a message, I will be happy to try and help.

Room Tip: None of the suites have an ocean view because they are all low rises (building policy in that part o...

The Grand Luxxe in RM rates a 0 in my book. If you have to stay on the 1st or 2nd floor all you see are trees, If you stay on the 3rd floor you see above the trees but there are no views.
If you stay in building 1 you get 24 hour coffee, tea or soft drinks downstairs. If you stay in building 2 you get coffee only in the morning. I asked about tea and was told only in building 1. You have to take a shuttle no matter where you want to go. The restaurants are very expensive and compared to the last time we were here (about 5-7 years ago) the quality of the food is mediocre. As is with any Mayan Resort you are isolated and basically stuck on property. There is a free shuttle into Playa del Carmen but you have to know about it because the resort does not volunteer that info. The staff is excellent and the rooms are very nice, I'll post again later...We still have 4 more days to suffer. The "Luxxe pool" is a boring rectangle with no shade and you have to take a shutttle since it is nowhere near the Luxxe buildings.

Room Tip: If you are claustrophobic only stay on the 3rd floor. NO VIEWS anywhere you stay.

Nice and relaxing resort.
The wifi works great.
Patio with plunge pool is very nice on a rainy day.
Things are reasonably priced for a resort.
We will return with son next time.
We are here now if anyone has any questions.

Room Tip: Normally, I like high floors but in this case I like the first floor as there is lots of privacy. T...

We are completing our first stay at the Grand Luxxe and I have to say we have been very impressesd. We were fortunate that we booked during a "bonus week" and received two 3000 sq foot condos which made my young adults and their friends very happy :). We have been in awe of the service and the friendliness of all the employees we have met. Unfortunately the weather has not been that wonderful so without a car we have felt a bit isolated, but we have made the best of it. We have eaten at Havana Moon, Gong, Blue Fish, and the Creperie, all have been excellent and the service outstanding. We found the Brio Spa to be very good and the massage therapists to be very skilled. As many reviews have stated you can't swim in the ocean in front of the resort, but there are many pools that worked for us. Golf has not been an option due to the weather but from what we can see the course is beautiful.

We had a great time in Playa Del Carmen one afternoon, but the 100.00 dollar roundtrip cab ride for the 5 of us means we won't do that again this trip.

Overall the resort is fantastatic, the service exceptional, and the food excellent but I think next time we want to try somewhere else, we keep hearing how great Nuevo Vallarta is............

We recently had our wedding at the Grand Mayan property. It was a very enjoyable experience. We had about 22 of us staying between the Grand Luxxe, Grand Mayan and Mayan Palace. The Grand Luxxe is top notch and you really do feel and get treated like VIP. The room are new and spacious and the patios with the plung pool are wonderful. The service is also amazing at the Luxxe. The kitchens are well stock (there just is no oven) and you get free coffee service every morning near the concierge desk. We stay on the 1st floor of building 2 and have no complaints. We like being in the jungle and the shuttle run all the time to take you to the pool/beach of main Grand Mayan/Mayan Palace pools. Security is tight at the Grand Luxxe and they do not allow visitors of the other properties to come on the grounds. The only complaint would be the service at the Havana Moon. Food is very slow to come out (usually took 1-2 hours to eat even for breakfast). Wedding was wonderful. Wedding coordinator was wonderful, plated dinner was great, wedding cake was the best one I have ever tasted. All and all everyone enjoyed the trip. I would recommend this resort and the other properties!

Room Tip: We had rooms in the Grand Luxxe (building 2 groud level) and thought it was great. Others in our gr...

Overall a very nice place. But the resort is not suited for everyone. If you re looking for peace and quiet with limited services and don't care about swimming in the ocean than this is great place for you. If you have kids, like the beach or want first rate spa services take a pass and go to Nuevo Vallata instead. The good first:
1. Absolutely fantastic rooms (please note lots of construction right now and the generating station for the resort is located between tower 1 and 2, very noisy must be strategic in picking your room).
2. Beautiful grounds.
3. Wonderful staff.
4. Improved food quality. Must check out the burger custom made.

Negatives.
1. No views (truthfully we did not mind, it was green and secluded and we liked it).
2. Limited services, NO KIDS CLUB! even though they advertised it as having one and promoted it in the Mayan Calender of Fun. This was a real letdown. If you have kids you need to go to Nuevo Vallarta for the club service and water park. The staff did make accommodations for use but again there was only so much they could do.
3. No ocean swimming. We did find a nice beach a 10 minute walk north at Valentine resort. but you can't use their amenities so you just need to bring towels and whatever else you need.
4. We exercise and the gym is important. The Brio spa at this resort is run down, lacks equipment expected by a Luxxe owner and the spa was a mess, completely neglected. Nothing like the quality of Nueveo Vallarta. If you don't need a gym than this won't matter to you.

What helped make the tip a success was the concierge, pool and restaurant staff at the Luxxe.

Just returned from an very relaxing week at Grand Luxxe in Riviera Maya.
We stayed in Grand Luxxe Villa (3000 sq ft) Tower 2, second floor. It was 5 star!
When we arrived we met with van at the airport that immediately took us to the resort.(no charge). But please tip the driver.
We arrived at Grand Mayan and were taken by cart immediately to Grand Luxxe Tower and the concierge check us in immediately while we drank complimentary mimosas.
The villa was beautiful incredible terrance (teak wood) and beautiful 2 bedrooms and incredible spa like bathrooms, with rain shower heads. You feel like your bathroom is a spa.
The Spa Tower is the top level, however they don't have one there yet.
The Grand Luxxe is the next level down.
The Grand Bliss is next level down.
The Grand Mayan is next level down. etc.
I feel like there was come confusion on other reviews so i wanted to clarify that.
The food was wonderful, the pools were relaxing.
It really is heaven.
We did attend a time share presentation. 8:30am until 1pm. We got free buffet and 10% off our resort bill and 50% off tours. It wasn't bad, just plan it for a day when it rains so you want feel bad about wasting 4 hours.

But most of all the employees of the resort really are what makes it special from the maids to the cart drivers to the people that you pass on the paths, they go above and beyond to make you feel welcomed and accommodated.

My only suggestion is to update the gym or build a new one and make it bigger and more state of the art.

Room Tip: I felt the second floor had the exact same view as the third. You are right above the jungle, so I...
