“Very nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

The hotel is very nice in general. Huge location which can be a turn off for some people but the gold carts are always there to take you places. Multiple pools and the rooms are very very nice. The bad will be the beach area, not the greatest but you are just minutes from Playa del Carmen/Tolum where you can enjoy some nice beaches. I was very happy with the service and the hotel overall, if you dont rent a car then be ready to go to bed early since the hotel goes quiet past midnight. They could offer more entretaiment, definately a place for a family but the teens and young adults might get bored at night time. The gym and Spa are amazing.

I spent 5 nights at the Grand Luxxe with friends and was in paradise. The apartment units are beautiful and big. The deck is large with a dipping pool with a wonderful view. The food at the resort was fresh and very good with many options. The staff goes above and beyond. You have to take shuttles almost everywhere but they are always available and hardly ever a wait. A highlight was the cooking class we took.

From the moment you check in at the security gate to the moment you leave the resort, your every need is catered to with a smile and "is there anything else I can do for you"? You check in with the bell boy at the Grand Mayan lobby and he calls a golf cart shuttle for you to take you to the Grand Luxxe buildings. Upon arrival at the building, you are whisked into the small check in room, offered a cold beverage and are assigned your unit. Bell boy takes your bags and escorts you to room and explains all of the ammenities.

The units are to the point of being over the top. The only thing they could add to make the units perfect would be a stove for those who want to cook (really not necessary) and a dishwasher (really an oversight for such a luxurious resort). Other than that, everything you could possibly ask for is in this resort.

Redundant information:

Pools spectacular. GL pool basic design, but The Burger Custom Made restaurant on site and service out of this world. Concierge on site to provide *anything* you could want.

Beach rocky entry, but beautiful beach only a ten minute walk north.

Gong Restaurant, beautiful view and good Asian cuisine.

Tramonto Italian, spectacular food and great service.

Jade Deli and Convenience store, almost anything you could want for food and munchies for the room. I keep reading about how people say it's so high priced. Not really. More than you'd pay at your local grocery store, but not outrageous.

Golf Course, challenging par 3 executive. Doesn't take a whole afternoon to play, and reasonably priced.

Ask for 3rd floor unit to have any view at all.

What this resort lacks in beach and view, it more than makes up for in service. If rest, relaxation and pampering is your aim, you couldn't do better than the Grand Luxxe.

This was our first ever exchange through Interval International and we were very pleasantly surprised. The room and the service exceeded our expectations. The rooms are very clean and well appointed and the bathrooms are excellent. The Grand Luxxe towers are part of a larger two part Mayan Resort so amenities such as restaurants, other pools and beaches are shared. The Mayan Palace is more of a "spring break" resort so it is recommended to stay at the Grand Luxxe pool which is beautiful and the service is very good. The Burger Custom Made restaurant at Grand Luxxe pool is very good as well.

We were greeted with the hard sell time share sales pitch at the door and after I politely said "No" one time we were not bothered with it again.

On check in, we were banded with red wrist bands we had to wear for the entire stay. I must say, I've never been to a luxury resort where my status was announced by the color or my wristband rather than a guest recognition program. The "red" identifies you as a guest of the Grand Luxxe and prevents any other Mayan guests from having access to the Grand Luxxe amenities. If you leave the property, remove the wrist band!!! The hawkers, peddlers and street sharks know that a red wrist band means Grand Luxxe which they equate with money!

The staff at Grand Luxxe and the rest of the Mayan amenities was very friendly, outgoing, eager to please and professional.

I have been to Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta area many times and the Riveria Maya is far more civilized and truly pleasant.

Room Tip: The shuttle service around the property is a pain, just walk. If you go into Playa del Carmen, remo...

My brother traded his time share week for a week at the Grand Luxxe and we came along on his dime. The service makes this place. The service is good at all levels of the Mayan resort, but the maroon colored Grand Luxxe bracelet brings special attention. We never had to ask for any thing twice. The two bedroom villa was beautiful and spacious. Just the right size for two couples. We were on the second floor of building one. There was not a sea view, but we liked the enclosed canopy feeling of the jungle which provided a sense of privacy.

We ate at Havana Moon(2x), Tramonto, Blue Fish and Burger Custom Made. We also had the breakfast buffet at Havana Moon and the dinner beach buffet. The food was average, with the beach dinner buffet being the best meal by far. We also had lunch and dinner in Puerto Morelos. We also purchased a few items from the deli.

We took advantage of the 11am-1pm 2 for 1 drinks as well as the drink of the day from 1 to 5.Drinks were ok, but I had to ask for more alcohol on my first drink order. After that it wasn't an issue. Ask and you shall receive.

We took water shoes, so the entrance into the sea was not an issue. We also walked north to the Valetin beach and swam.

The Grand Luxxe pool is great for swimming laps. The gym is one of the best I have used. The equipment is top notch, but a couple of the treadmills need the running decks replaced. The spa has steam and sauna rooms and an assortment of after shower body sprays.

Large and beautiful pools all over the resort. My favorite pools were at the Grand Mayan.

My brother played a round of golf on the par 3 course. It is a beautiful course with a couple of potential "wet ball" holes.

All in all a great place to vacation!

Exceeded every expectation. The room was absolutely gorgeous 2 bedroom and 2.5 bath with 2 living rooms and a plunge pool on the balcony. The 2x maid service is wonderful. There are 3 hotels on property and everyone wears a bracelet indicating what resort you belong too. Grand luxxe guests have their own private pool and a section of the beach which is a little nicer and their own restaurant Burger Custom Made. The food at most restaurants was surprisingly good. You can rent a palapa( thatched cabana) for $30 and you get that money back in food and drinks. Really nice place to escape the summer sun. My kids loved releasing baby turtles into the surf in a special ceremony. My kids loved this place so much we are booked again for next year. The pools are endless and lots of activities to keep kids busy.

Room Tip: Try not to stay on ground floor. Only a foliage view.

This is a pretty amazing resort and the rooms were gorgeous. My Mom and I take a trip together every year and this year she traded one of her timeshares for the Grand Luxxe. We had a two-bedroom on the top floor of Tower 2. The square footage was huge—probably close to 3,000 square feet. The rooms were beautiful, looked brand new, and I can’t say enough nice things about housekeeping, which came twice a day. There was a concierge on our floor, which was a nice added touch as well. The pool at the Grand Luxxe was great and the service at that pool was also superior.

The food on the property is just okay, except for The Burger Custom Made, Tramonto (Italian), and Gong (Asian). The food at all three of those restaurants was out of this world and definitely worth taking the time to go to at least once (if not more!) during your stay.

We made the mistake of not following the other reviews and we attended the timeshare presentation at the Grand Mayan. Horrible—couldn’t get out of there!! Plus, they were trying to force us into buying at the Mayan Palace, whose rooms looked like Motel 6 rooms compared to the Grand Luxxe. Stay away from the presentation and you’ll be fine. My Mom wanted the discount off of our room charges, which is why we attended.

My only complaint about the resort itself is the beach. Like everyone has said—it’s rocky and non-swimmable. It’s a shame that the beach isn’t better because the Grand Luxxe would truly be the perfect resort. The pools were great, but nothing beats a fabulous beach.

Room Tip: If you don't want to look directly out into the jungle, ask for a room on the top floor.
