About three weeks in advance, I booked two rooms over the phone with the owner herself. When I showed up, they told me they didn't have a reservation under my name, and looked at me like I was crazy for even suggesting that they should. Normally I would have just gone looking for something else, but it was high season and I didn't know my way around Bayahibe yet, so I was worried about ending up stuck with nothing.
No one apologized, but they did say they had one room available, and reluctantly allowed us three adults and a toddler to share it. My friends took a single bed each, my 3-year-old slept on a folding cot and I slept on couch cusions on the floor. The room would have been cramped enough for 2 people, but for 3 plus child it was especially bad.
"Breakfast" is included, but "breakfast" is exactly one hardboiled egg, one slice of ham, one Kraft single, one cup of coffee, and one cup of concentrate fruit drink per person, plus a basket of bread and a slab of jam. No one asks what you would like or whether you have allergies / restrictions or whatever - this is just what they place before you about 20 minutes after you sit down.
Bayahibe is a nice, tranquilo town with a beautiful beach....definitely go there, but plan well ahead so you don't get stuck taking a room at Villa Iguana!
For those who like to "consider the source" - I live in the DR, I'm fluent in Spanish, and I'm happy to rough it in non-luxurious places.
