What an amazing day! Boarded the speedboat in Bayahibe then took off for the Natural Pool, taking in Peñon on the way and learning about the history of the area by our lovely guide Ingrid. Spent half an hour or so out on a sandbank in a few feet of water with huge Starfish and a refreshing glass of Cuba Libre.
Then off to Saona Island via the mangroves. We stopped at the only village on Saona, Mano Juan, and took a 1 hour walking tour, taking in the sights, meeting the villagers.... and the highlight of the village tour..... the turtle sanctuary! We got to learn all about the incredible work that Seavis do on the island to protect the sea turtles. We were lucky enough to see 139 1 day old baby turtles and even hold them!! Soooo cute!! They were to be released into the sea a few days later, so we wished them good luck.
After a delicious BBQ lunch on the beach at Mano Juan, consisting of Lobster (for an additional fee) and pork with a great selection of salads, we were quite full and ready to move on to the second beach of our trip... Canto De La Playa
What a beautiful beach!! The snorkelling was incredible. I followed a family of 7 Cuttlefish across the reef!! We got about 2 hours on the beach, drinking rum and taking advantage of the photographer to do a professional photoshoot. Take your own snorkel, mask & fins if you can as there are limited supplies. We brought our own and spent most of the time exploring the reef.
This was also the first time I saw a helicopter land on a beach!
At just after 4pm we boarded the boat again for a 50 minute thrill ride back to Bayahibe. The sea had got a little choppier and it was great fun!
To sum up, a perfect full day out, which was educational and extremely memorable.
Thank you Seavis!!
