“Maybe this should be an Excellent review”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2014

Overall our stay was great and as the title suggests maybe this could be an "excellent" review. From the moment we stepped out of the cab we were treated with great care. The check-in was somewhat cumbersome since we paid for the Preferred Club and the front desk didn't realize this right away so we went back and forth about how they didn't have our reservation. The room was nice and kept very clean throughout the week by the staff. The preferred pool area was great and the bar servers were excellent. The beach and snorkeling from the beach were great.

Our biggest complaint was the food. The food seemed to be either great or really poor. At an all-inclusive I recognize some quality may be sacrificed but it played out like a game show when it came to ordering dinner.

Our other complaint was communication from the concierges on staff. The info they provided and all the work they did to set up excursions and other things for us was great but we never got final confirmation from either the main lobby concierge or the preferred club concierge. My wife and I are the relaxed type on vacation so we wouldn't have cared if the concierge didn't get something set up but we would've liked to know either way prior to 15 minutes before our excursion.

I just returned from an extraordinary weeks vacation from this fabulous resort. From the second that we arrived we knew this was a special place. Thirty six family members and friends embarked on a wonderful paradise. From the second we arrived we were treated as royalty, we were greeted with open arms and cold champagne. We stayed in building 4, very clean and close to the beach and both pools.

We had a very special birthday, my step-daughter's sweet sixteen. The Apple concierge Darling and Iris in Food and Beverage made sure that the event was very special for her. They decorated her room with beautiful balloons. Iris made sure that the staff at the Italian Restaurant made a special cake and they sang Happy Birthday to her in 5 different languages.

The entertainment team (Edwin (my dance partner), Picasso, Eddie Murphy, Omega, Lookey-Lookey and Kendall) worked so hard to provide fun for all.

On our last night the TEAM of Wonderful Employees mentioned TREATED all 36 of us to a private beach dinner with our very own rock band (from America). I was so impressed by this resort and all of the individuals that I mentioned that I will defiantly be back to visit my friends.

I highly recommend this resort to anyone thinking about visiting La Romana.

Room Tip: Building 4, close to everything.

This was our second stay at Dreams La Romana, it was everything and more that we remembered. We had emailed to tell them it was our Anniversary - wow, our door had a 'Happy Anninersary' banner on, inside there were balloons, flowers, fruit and rum - what a welcome.

Everybody was so friendly, always got time to smile and chat to you. The restaurants were fabulous - the Italian, French,Sea Side Grill and Oceana were our favourites. The Coco Cafe was just like Costa Coffee!
The Barefoot Grill was great lunchtimes - amazing Burgers!

The entertainment team were brilliant, they helped make our holiday, especially Lookey Lookey, Felix, Edwin and Andy. A special thank you to Jessica (hope your back is better), Diomedy (Lobby bar) and our cleaner Maria Quezada.

The shows were great, they all put in so much effort - the Beach Party was the best.

We were in block 3, which was lovely and central for the World Cafe and the pool - and very quiet at night.

Can't wait till next year.

Our group of four families with eight kids from 11-16 stayed from March 9 to 16, 2014. I want to say that Louise Coley, the e-concierge did an incredible job of asnswering all of our inquiries and she was able to accommodate us by keeping us in close proximity to each other in the same building. Thank you so much Louise, you are a true asset to Dreams.
Manuel at the Barracuda Main Pool Bar was exceptional. The Infinity Pool Manatees swim up bar had Maximo and Antonio keeping us laughing all the time. Christina at the Sugar Reef beach bar and Maria on the beach made sure we had something cold in our hands at all times.

Louise had helped us to reserve the Wine Room which is a special dining area that sits between the Portofino (Italian) and Bordeaux (French) restaurants. You are expected to order a minimum amount off the wine list and we enjoyed champagne and several bottles of fantastic wine with our meal. Our sincere thanks for Lisii and Gerbacio for an experience that we will not soon forget.

The World Cafe offered amazing breakfast choices like custom omelettes or eggs any style, fresh fruit and juices, french toast, crepes, pastries, yogurt etc. After reading some reviews before we arrived which complained about the food quality, i guess there is no pleasing some people. We ate at El Patio, (Mexican) the Seaside Grill (Seafood, Chicken and Steaks), Himitsu (Japanese), Portofino and Bordeaux restaurants and we were very impressed by the presentation and quality of the food and we very much enjoyed the house wines as well.
The Pizzeria was amazing and the burgers, chicken, pork chops, sausage and hotdogs at the grill on the beach were incredible. Even the make your own nachos gave you chili, cheese and other toppings to create your own snack.

The rooms were were clean and spacious and the air conditioning worked perfectly to give us an escape from the heat and allowed us to sleep very soundly in our very comfortable beds.

The beach was not the typical Mayan Riviera walk-for-miles beach but has it's own unique charm. There is sun or shade for everyone. We spent a great deal of time on the volleyball court and had the pleasure of meeting some great people from all around the world. There were some very friendly yet competitive games. We had the guys and gals from Italy, France, Spain, Russia, USA and all over Canada challenging us. I'm pretty sure we retired as World Champions!!!!!!!

The coral reef that extends from the pier down the water front was amazing for snorkeling. There were large pools of various fish and some incredible varieties of bright colourful creatures to see. We even saw a couple of small stingrays.

The Entertainment Team was exceptional all week long in keeping us entertained. We used the tennis courts, bike trails and the running paths for a bit in the morning before it got too hot. We got in on the Wat-a-Robics, water polo and the ladies even participated in the fashion show. Our thanks to Eddie Murphy, Pablo Picasso, Edwin and our friend Looky Looky for keeping us rolling through the week. The rest of the team did an exceptional job of displaying their performance skills of song, dance and acting. It's not easy performing to an entirely International audience and we give them full credit for their hard work. Is it Vegas? No. But we don't go to the shows expecting to compare them to Vegas shows so it's all about your frame of mind. The traditional native Dominican performance was exceptionally well done.

By the end of our week we were dreading having to leave but we met some fantastic new friends from all over the world. We wish love and happiness to Tyler and Natalia from Fort Worth, Texas. Special shout-outs to the Ron Burgundy family from Maine (you know who you are Scott and Holly, the flamingo misses you), Sherry and the New Jersey connection, Salute!, to Waterloo Mike and his beautiful family, it was a pleasure to meet you, to Dyan and family from Barrie, see you on the court! and to Trixie and Finn, go hard or go home!!!!

My advice to anyone who is considering coming to Dreams La Romana, remember that for every review that you get that is negative, there is likely 100 positive experiences that don't get posted. I also encourage you to use the forums here on trip advisor to bounce questions off the community members who will take the time to answer them for you. Louise Coley who is the e-concierge will respond to your inquiries and works tirelessly to assist in anyway she can before you even arrive. I'm sorry we could not meet you in person Louise but I will be eternally grateful for setting up our accommodation requests, reservations and answering all of our advance questions.

Thanks again for a trip we will never forget from Big D.

Room Tip: We did not go to preferred section because that is more for people who want peace and tranquility. W...

Our first experience with Dreams- and I can't wait to try another property! Loved this place.. it was a bit older but was an awesome place. grounds were gorgeous, inside rooms were great, bed comfy nice large bathroom...( would have liked a better bathtub) The Staff here, were SO SO SO SO absolutely spectacular! The service and staff were like nothing else I have experienced..the food, was good... I am a food snob, and some of my meals were the bomb, some ok. ( if you are from NY or the northeast, please don't even try the pizza...) Japanese and mexican restaurants had best food! The bars... well... amazing! The beach was perfect... my only complaint and it really is not that big of a deal, but they can use some new updated chairs at the beach and pools! Now, some things I must do... EVELYN, and all of staff at the pool bar( julio, carols, maximus..all) were so amazing and wonderful and best bartenders ever! The waiters in japanese restaurant were amazing! BENI in the buffett is the nicest and best waiter EVER... and javier and wilkens in the mexican restaurant made our experience wonderful! We can't wait to come back.. and maxximo in UVC was the most helpful as well as well as all ofthe ladies in the yummy coffee shop!

Room Tip: dont waste money on preferred cub.. building 3 was GRREAT location

My husband and I visited Dreams La Romana 2 years ago. We were so impressed by this resort and the exemplary service by it’s’ staff, we decided to return with a group of friends and family members (36 of us to be exact). We visited from March 7th through March 14th and stayed in building 4. I can say without hesitation that Dreams La Romana absolutely exceeded my expectations (again!).

The resort is beautifully manicured and well-appointed. We ate at almost all of the ala carte restaurants, enjoyed the buffet for breakfast and the pizzeria or beach BBQ for lunch. We made multiple stops to the Coco Café and even took advantage of room service on multiple occasions. The quality of the food and service at the restaurants was very good and far exceeded what I have experienced at other all-inclusive resorts that I have visited in the Caribbean and Mexico.

The bar service and selection is also extremely impressive. We made daily visits to the beach bar, swim-up bar, pool bar and lobby bar and were always served with a smile. Alexander, Henry, Francisco, Evelyn, Moses and Johnathan made us feel like friends and were genuinely happy to see us each day. These friendly bartenders always impressed us with delicious tropical concoctions and were happy to run to another bar to get a type of alcohol that was requested but not available where they were serving. The wait staff on the beach and the lobby came around frequently offering to refill our mugs or get us a drink from the bar. Again, the service is excellent throughout the resort.

The entertainment team worked tirelessly to provide fun activities to guests of all ages. When they are not participating in formal activities they are mingling with guests, leaving a smile on every face they encounter. Eddie Murphy, Picasso, Omega, Lookey-Lookey and Kendall made every day of our vacation fun-filled.

Additionally, there were a few individuals who made our stay special and memorable. Darling, the Apple concierge and Iris from Food & Beverage treated us like royalty. A special thanks also to Edwin on the Entertainment team for checking in with us multiple times every day to be sure our group was comfortable and well taken care of. These individuals worked tirelessly to ensure that our stay was perfect. Their attention to detail and excellent customer service make them an asset to the Dreams organization. This resort is truly a better place because of them. Louise the e-concierge was also extremely helpful prior to our trip, always answering my questions in a timely manner.

If you are planning a trip to Dreams La Romana you will not be disappointed. This is the 2nd time this resort and its staff have exceeded my expectations. They have absolutely earned my repeat business and I am sure I will return again, perhaps with even a larger group.

Room Tip: Building 4 is close to the beach and main pool

I just stayed with my family and friends as a group of 36 people at this amazing resort!! First of all, I have never written a review before for a resort but I have to write about this wonderful vacation spot! This resort treated me and my family like we were royalty from the second we walked into the lobby. They went above and beyond any expectations that I have about a resort. If there was any slight problem, they dealt with it immediately and made sure that things were fixed.

There were activities for the kids all day and into the early night. After signing my 2 children up the first day, the staff at the kids club would seek my kids out to see if they wanted to join the activities for that day. There was a night that we ordered my kids room service and then sent them to the kids club for a movie and the mini disco while we got to enjoy an adult dinner with my family. There was even a day where the resort had blow up slides to use at the pool which they LOVED!!

This resort had some staff members that were EXCEPTIONAL!!! We had a concierge named Darling who was as sweet as they come and helped in any way that she could. Ana was also of great assistance to us and even found both of our kids shoes that we lost as well as my Mom's kindle. Eddie Murphy and Picasso have more energy then any staff I have ever met and made the resort so much FUN!! Edwin was a staff member that took his job so seriously and wants to make sure that everybody's vacation is the best it can possibly be and he definitely succeeded. Lastly, I have to mention Iris who is the head of food and beverage. She is the best employee for so many reasons. We were a very large group and she not only made sure that our group was able to have dinners together every night but she stopped by at every one of our dinners to make sure that everything was to our liking, gave us food that we didn't even order that was ready as soon as we sat down and had birthday celebrations including cake and balloons for my daughter as well as a 16 year old in our group. By day 2, she knew everyone's names, who was married to who and which kids belonged to which adults, AMAZING!! She set up a special dinner for our last day that left most of us teary eyed. I would recommend this resort to anyone, especially a group.
