We travel frequently to the Dominican Republic and have been to the following places:
Hilton Hotel, Malecon Center, Santo Domingo
Riu - Maimon Bay, Puerto Plata
Live Hamaca, Boca Chica
Costa Caribe, Juan Dolio
Barcelo Capella, Juan Dolio
Hotel Las Salinas, La Salina, Bani
Paradisus Palma Real, Punta Cana
Dreams La Romana, Bayahibe
We really use the "all inclusive" more like a bed & Breakfast, since, almost every day, except for breakfast, travel to nearby towns, villages and beach clubs, to experience the dominican life.
We speak spanish, so it's a lot easier for us to communicate and enjoy the fantastic hospitality,
happy faces and good character of the dominican people.
Dreams La Romana, in our opinion, is worth the price. The resort is very well maintained, with manicured gardens; they offer a good variety of special events such as Spanish & Mexican theme parties, Lobster dinner at the beach. We also enjoyed the clean beach with light waves and plenty of natural shade with palm and many other trees.
The restaurants are generally OK, with special mention of the french & italian restaurants. We like the fact that reservations are not accepted, first come first served.
We also enjoyed the hamburger & hot dogs stand option for lunch at the beach, as well as the boat display for a fruit snack.
The rooms are a bit outdated, considering that the resort is probably 15-18 years old, but they keep them very clean and we consider them to be more than adequate for a beach vacation. The air conditioning in all the rooms is fantastic.
The service is above average when it comes to details. We had problems with our electronic safe and got a response within 5 minutes. The resort is very isolated, so the security is very good.
Our only suggestion to Dreams La Romana is the quality of the drinks they serve in all bars (beach, lobby & restaurants). While we understand that in an all inclusive resort they can't offer unlimited premium drinks; we think they should offer the option to have Grey Goose vodka, Johnny Walker, etc. at an extra charge. Paradisus Palma Real, being much more expensive, they offer that choice. As a matter of fact, all the restaurants at Dreams La Romana offer a wine list at an extra charge.
We did buy in La romana a couple of Grey Goose bottles, which we deposit in the lobby bar and thanks to the bartenders we enjoyed our drink of choice. Special thanks to the casino waitress Dolores Castro. She went our of her way and travel a couple of hundred yards from the casino to the lobby bar and back, to get us our drinks.
Over all and considering price, I give Dreams La Romana high marks in their efforts to make your stay very enjoyable.

Try to get a room closer to the lobby. some building are a bit far, specially for older people.
