“An Oasis on a Hill”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2013

We stayed at Nova Arbora for two nights and used this as our base camp while exploring Emilia-Romagna. Nova Arbora is nestled in a nature preserve nearly 500m up in the mountains. Views are incredible and there is nature at every turn. The hosts, Giorgio and Donatella, were extremely friendly and warm. Donatella's breakfasts each morning were not to be missed. Not only was the table covered with fresh marmalades and preserves from her own garden but she even made us Nutella crepes. Nearby, there was even a neighborhood Osteria which served in-season truffles and fantastic local cuisine. I would come back to Nova Arbora in a heart beat.

If you want to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city you should spend some time here. It's 30-40 minutes from Bologna city centre and it's completelly surrounded by greenery.
There are several paths in the wood where you can see thousands of different flowers grown with true passion by Donatella, the owner. She's a lovely lady, willing to offer you a coffee/a cup of tea and to share her botanic knowledge (what a pleasure!)
Otherwise you can enjoy the swimming pool, the bbq, the homemade food or the fireplace warmth.
Every room has got a bathroom, a sitting room and a kitchen.
At a bargain.
Highly, highly, highly recommended!

Buon prezzo.
Molto, molto, molto consigliato!

Imagine a classic Italian Home, set in the stunning landscape of the Bologna Hills, with a remarkable botanical garden of over 1,000 species from fruits, vegetables, medicinal plants, to flowers and herbs and one probably then cannot do justice to this B & B. The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. You wake in the morning to birds, sheep and yes, a donkey.
Donatella greeted us warmly in hugs and kisses and was always so kind and happy. Neither she nor her husband speak English but with that kind of hospitality it was no issue.
A very good but simple breakfast, cake, toast, homemade jams, coffee. Our walking tour guide arranged for us to have a special dinner made by Donatella using only ingredients from her gardens. A visual as well as flavorful delight. We spent our days walking the hills around Bologna and this was the perfect match for the stunning beauty all around.

In the most beautiful Bologna's surroundings the B&B Nova Arbora is just a piece of heaven on Earth: it is a relaxing, cosy and the owners are really sweet. It is a great place for treks (starting point of the Via Degli Dei that goes to Florence) or just for enjoying nature and even animals (Mrs. Pratolini has got an extraordinary garden and a small "zoo"...). The rest of the house and the rooms are a "chilling den"...
