“Nice place for a transit stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

Nice place for a transit stay. Attentive staff and great service orientation. Rooms are ok, with basic necessities. Wifi is good, but quite feeble at top floors. Fair restaurants with decent meals - difficult for vegans!

Room Tip: Choose a room away from the lift and preferably on the 1st or 2nd floor for better wifi

Three of us stayed here on the way from Italy to France. I really liked it. The room was a good size and clean, the bathroom was clean (with a BATH! as well as shower) and the staff were polite and attentive. They quickly brought extra towels when I asked.
Youd never know you were so near an airport, there was no noise at all and we all spent a very comfortable night. The WiFi worked fine with a (free) voucher from reception, the lift worked although there was no tea/coffee in our room.
We ate a delicious meal in the restaurant in the evening and tasted the local wine which was lovely and good value for money.

I'm a professional business traveller and work for a major global firm. I don't like wasting money, but I won't stay in a hotel for work that I wouldn't be happy taking my wife and kids to.
I've been on a two-night stay at this hotel to attend a banking conference in downtown Basel. While others attending the conference are paying UK 300 pounds a night to stay at the Hilton in Basel, I'm paying UK 72 pounds a night to stay at the Captain Hotel.
Their free shuttle service to/from the airport takes about 4 minutes, and runs from 4am on demand throughout the day. When you arrive at the airport, just phone the hotel and the shuttle will be with you (on the French side of the airport) in about 10 minutes.
The No.50 bus from the airport goes to the central railway station in Basel, and even allowing for missing a bus it only took 35 minutes from the hotel into downtown Basel. A single ticket costs 4 Swiss Frances or around UK 3 pounds.
Wifi access in the bedrooms works, so I've been able to access my corporate email without a problem. The room is clean and tidy, and the bathroom is also clean, tidy and smart. The area is very quiet - I've heard no airplane noise. My room is at the back of the hotel and there are no outside sounds. Windows are modern double-glazed and pretty much soundproof.
When I travel I don't normally use any hotel services, so I can't comment on food or wake-up calls, etc. The staff are friendly, polite and helpful. The elevator works.
Switzerland is now very expensive even for basics - UK 10 pounds for a Big Mac Meal, if you use that index - so staying across the border in France keeps the costs down.
I rate this as a very good stay, and very good value for money. This is the first review of any hotel that I've written, and I'm doing it because this hotel deserves it.

Room Tip: The rear of the hotel faces onto disused land and it is quiet. Standard rules - try to make sure th...

Stayed at this hotel for three nights while working in local area. Tea and coffee facilities are no more, well not in my room anyway. Staff are friendly and polite. It is handy for Basel Airport but in my opinion a little over priced for what you get

Hotel is far too expensive for what it is. The only reason I stayed here is because of the free shuttle to the airport, and other hotels were limited. IN MY OPINION the hotel isnt worth even half the price they're charging. Breakfast is way over priced for what you get.

Never ate there nor drank there - this was purely a stop over.

Rooms OK with all facilities - 5 minutes from the international departures.

The shuttle was available on demand and I took it at 5 in the morning - no problems at all.

Price was OK - standard for an hotel near an airport - I can't remember the exact amount but it wasn't too bad.

Nice and quiet.

That's it!

If you don't have to stay at this place because of a very early departure from Basle/Mulhouse airport - don't go there.
The "free" shuttle to the ariport is the only service this place has to offer - but you pay a rather high price for a poor room with poor service.
Nobody who had ordered a wake up call, received it when I was there. Instead I had to wake up the receptionist/driver to settle my bill in time and drive me and some other guests to the airport at 06:00 am.
The booking procedure: For asking one simple question by email in French I was charged additional 16.- Euro, instead of the internet reservation rate - regular rate. That's not reasonable at all!
