We just returned from an eight night stay in Istion Club, Nea Potidea. First of all it was difficult to find it because even if the reception is close to the road, there was nothing to indicate there was a hotel. By the moment we left they built a pedestal with their logo closer to the road. Probably we weren't the first with difficulties in finding the resort. Anyhow, we check-in and although we asked for a room not in the basement, they said the hotel is fully booked and that this is the best room they can offer. Of course, after us some Greek tourists came and got an upper floor room. I asked if, at least, there is internet in the room as I aspect for a 5* hotel. No, but as we were closest to the pool bar, probably we will have wi-fi. We didn't . The nicest thing is that they accommodate us in an apartment, as they had the first child free of charge. The rooms were quite big, the bed in the bedroom huge, BUT: the towels were very old, some of them with stains and bad smelling, in the shower there were no support for the toiletries which was very annoying, the towel hanger didn't ever stayed straight, the small mirror was hard to unwind and the clamping in the wall was broken, the shower panels weren't fixed properly so the water was flooding the bathroom floor, the mini-bar was a big joke- 2 beers, one water, one cola, one fanta and one sprite, the tv reception was poor, there were 14 tv channels and of course, no music or cartoons channels and the Romanians couldn't watch because there weren't any Romanian channel, although enough Romanians were accommodated there. No problems with the deutch, russian, bulgarian channels...
The service- quite a surprise!! We didn't want our room fixed every day, so we put the Do not disturb sign in the door. Some of the days we had to stay in the room in the afternoon because our son had to sleep. The room service knocked once, knocked twice and... they entered the room!!! The second time they only knocked, but enough to disturb us.
The food was acceptable. It get a little bit boring at the breakfast because was the same food every day, but it was ok. The people in the restaurant were nice and smiling.
We couldn't stay at their beach- was the worst beach I have ever seen- a lot of stones in the sand and in the water. I couldn't get in, no chance for my son. So we had to go every day on the other side of the Kassandra finger where were some nice beach bars with nice sand and water, sun beds free of charge if you buy something to drink.
They had three pools but I didn’t like the water, it didn’t seem clean. No chance for a sun bed near the pool if you came after 9.30.
For us, the resort was isolated. Nea Potidea is smaller than a city neighborhood with nothing to do in the evening. We had to drive every evening somewhere else if we want some noise. I can’t imagine what a couple or a family without a car could do there. There was some entertainment by the pool in the evening, but we only stayed for the half an hour of mini disco. We could hear everything from our room, and it wasn’t anything you could wish to stay for.
I wouldn’t go back there, actually, they made me feel like I would never return in Greece.
