Traveling alone, I had a couple of extra days in Athens. It was very hot. A friend had told me about the Agistri Club Hotel, just an hour away by hydrofoil. What a wonderful experience! Bryan, as "laid back" as he had promised in his e-mail, met me at the dock and whisked me to the charming complex of rooms, balconies, and dining terrace that comprise the club. Later, after a rest in my comfortable room, a walk to the nearby town, and a swim at the gem-like shared beach below the hotel, I met Bryan's wife, a very pregnant Henriette, who presides over the kitchen, and I selected a dinner entree from among three choices (including fish) that change every day. George, the barman, prepared my favorite drink. And I began to unwind, with a gourmet meal, glass of wine, and sparkling conversation with my hosts. Later, the full moon rose, red over the sea, promising another day of swimming, reading on my balcony, eating delicious food, meeting new friends, and recovering from city stress.
Bryan and Henriette later shared pictures of their beautiful baby daugher Laura. I look forward to returning to AgistriClub one day with my husband, daughter, and grandsons to meet her.
