“Nothing to do but RELAX!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2010

If you're looking for an Island Resort where you can just unwind then you can't go past Brampton. Not only is it good value but all the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, as it's like a mini community. As well as the usual Water Sports, there are beautiful Bush Walks and many secluded beaches to find. There are also Tennis Courts and a small Golf Range. Amazingly, Kangaroos hang around your accommodation which is just so special. There are butterflies everywhere as well as the odd Goanna! The food is great and if you like your wine, their selection is amazing. The resident Masseur / Beauty Spa lady is incredible! If you have trouble relaxing then this is the place for you. It i also great value so go enjoy :o)

My partner and I are in our late 20s and decided to go to the GBR for a snorkelling holliday.

We had conditions - the place must have great coral and fish, be clean, and peaceful. We didn't want crowds, daytrippers or kids with families to intrude with our relaxation.

We read the mixed reviews on Tripadvisor, but out of all the places we saw, this was the one that best match our criteria and our price.

We stayed in a garden room which was nicely furnished and relaxing. We had a nice tree were our balcony was and we were away from people walking past. I was expecting a shabby room with poor cleansiness, but didn't. i was rather impressed.

now the highlight of the trip was snorkelling. we went on as many as we good, trialling different places. the area where the whalf is is very good during low tide - you see a range of coral like trees and a variety of fish. the fish bowl is also great - see this one first, but make sure you time your trips with the tide, otherwise you may miss it. also, there are lots of secluded beaches around if you're willing to take a hike.

during low tides, we went on walks on a saw a different range of wildlife - including massive spiders that at first scared me, then fascinated me. we also some snakes. we saw a heap of stingrays, reef sharks (during low tide).

cocktails are standard, but sometimes all the ingredients aren't on hand. some ppl might find this frustrating, but we took it in our stride.

food was very average. too sweet. and the service punctuated the "averageness" of the experience. the kids had their heart in the right place, but some of them were too uncoordinated to get the dish you ordered right even though it was on the menu ( for instance, i asked for something like a panna cotta; ended up getting a cake. i told the waitress this is the wrong dish. she went back to check and said, no, this is what a panna cotta looks like - here.). i was very, very, VERY unimpressed. but we chose this place for the location, not the food. although breakfast was good. would be better if they stayed open until 10am; we would've liked to have slept in on our holiday.

We booked a trip to Brampton for 7 nights. A friend of ours recommended it, having stayed there about 4 years go. The launch was out of order so we went to the island on a fishing boat. There was no entertainment, unless you wanted to play the wii or board games, many of the toilet areas had at least one out of order and the ATM had been out of order for about 3 months. The gardens were overgrown and the paths messy. The pool area was not cleaned very often. The restaurant and house keeping staff were excellent. The dinner menu was limited to a choice of 5 entrees, 5 mains and 4 desserts, with 1 item changing each night. Snorkelling in the 'fishbowl' would have been great but was only allowed at low tide, when you can nearly touch the coral and, in doing so hurt yourself. In defence of the resort, we believe it has just changed hands and we did see signs of renovations and garden makeovers. We had a good time but this was mainly due to the company we were in.

2 mates and I were sailing in the Whitsundays and moored overnight at Brampton Island. We decided to visit the resort to get some information for our wives, to see whether they would like a holiday on the island.

The receptionist, Exxx, was not what I would call a shining advertisement for the resort. Apart from mumbling a great deal, there was no enthusiasm in describing the resort, there were no brochures produced for our inspection and retention, just basically these are the rates and if you want a water view then the price is too much and you can get a good view from another room.

We were permitted to walk around the resort.

A lot of work needs to be done !!! There are too many weeds growing in all garden beds and there is obviously no pride whatsoever by the gardeners. There are even weeds growing in great profusion in the sand bunker on the golf course. Staff we encountered on our way around did not even bother to acknowledge us.

The whole resort, from the reception area to the waterside bar looked old and very tired !

My wife and I have holidayed at some fabulous resorts in the Cook islands and Vanuatu and would consider them much better value for money.

Brampton Island is definitely off the "To Do List".

Having holidayed on Brampton six years ago and having had a wonderful time, we had been eager to return since then. We had read reviews both negative and positive, and this time went with open minds intent on making the best of our holiday.
The light plane took us from Mackay to Brampton with the pilot calming our fears with his obvious knowledge and capable disposition. On landing we were greeted by an efficient young lady (name escapes me) who took us to reception with a welcoming chat and an obvious love for her job. Check in was quick and painless and we were soon in our room, the same one we had previously been in and requested again.
Yes, the rooms are getting tired, but overall it sufficed and we had very little to complain about here. Each afternoon housekeeping attended in an efficient manner, even changing sheets on our request.
We had the meals package included and would recommend this as the way to go if you get a good deal. Failing that breakfast is included, lunches from the bar are about $17 if you avoid the buffet, and dinners are $45, $55 or $65 for 1, 2 or 3 courses. So do the sums before you take the meal package to make sure you are getting your moneys worth. Breakfast is a fair quality with lots of choices, but the hot food is never changing and a little bland. We mainly ate lunch at the buffet, which consisted of a variety of salads, breads, fruits, cheeses and desserts, with a speciality of the day - chinese, pasta, curries and mexican to name a few. Again a fair quality. For dinner we enjoyed the 3 courses, and found the food to be of exceptional quality, a talented chef. But, the chef in his wisdom has decided that guests who are there for a week will be given the same menu for the entire time (excepting Friday night seafood buffet - lovely), consisting of five main meal choices. Three of those are seafood, so for someone like me who doesn't eat seafood, that choice is down to two. Add to that food often runs out, further limiting choice, and entrees that took one hour and ten minutes to arrive on our last night. It's just a shame the chefs arrogant nature (we requested to speak to him but he had a bad attitude from the beginning, obviously forgetting we were guests) spoils his obvious talent in the kitchen. Sevice in the restaurant was a delight though, with Jessica looking after us in an exceptional and professional way.
Now to other staff. In fact, all staff on the island seemed to be very lacking. We heard that a lot of staff have left since the resort changed hands mid year, and this was glaringly obvious. The bar was often limited to one staff member who was trying to serve drinks, build relationships with guests and serve food from the bar menu all at the same time. Special mention to Blair and Tyson who are very passionate about their jobs, always going that extra mile to ensure the guests enjoy their holiday. But we also noticed a distinct lack of activity staff. Water sports often were in need of more staff, and all the other day activities that used to be there are no longer. Even some things advertised didn't happen, such as morning stretch class and cocktail mixology. Overall, daytime was where you looked after your own activities, with nothing organised on offer. Nightime consisted of happy hour in the bar from 5pm with $5 drinks. Even though they ran out of house sauv blanc on the first night and didn't get any more in, it was finally decided I could drink a more expensive wine for the same price. After dinner there was a distinct lack of organised activities. Gone were the fun nights that used to encourage guests to mingle and take part in trivial activities or dancing, there was nothing. Finally we could take no more and brought our own ipod to the bar area. That turned out to be our best night, with lots of people dancing and enjoying the night. What a shame that there were not enough staff to organise activities each night.
Brampton Island is a beautiful place teeming with wildlife, walking trails, beautiful beaches and snorkelling areas and the resort is wonderfully set out with everything in easy reach. Although the physical buildings could do with renovation, this was not what spoilt our holiday. It was the lack of staff and organised activities leading to things like no bar service at water sports or on the beach, no night activities, lack of choice at dinner with no tea/coffee at lunch or dinner, seeing out of order signs wherever you went, the beach lounges never being cleaned or wiped down, broken pool umbrellas and some of the advertised activities non existent.
The new owners need to get things moving quickly because for every unhappy guest (and we met lots) they will lose many more word of mouth references. Last time we holidayed there, our encouragement resulted in 4 couples that we know going there on our recommendation. This time, we cannot give the same advice. All it would take is to increase the staff numbers and get activities organised. Building renovations can come later, it's the good time that people want.
So visit Brampton, but not until things have changed or you may be as disappointed as we were.

The resort needs some imagination and style. New towels and bed linen wouldhelp in the interim, The rooms do not hide humble 3-star origins with bland styling and cheap fittings. The staff were cheerful, coffee machine in the room was very good, but where did the complimentary wine get to? The food was good, as were the staff in the resteraunt. There did not seem to be enough staff to maintain the grounds which needed attention. The views are spectacular but the resort is in urgent need of refurbishment. Owing to lack of ambience of the room [ the most expensive ] and cold, wet and windy (too windy for water sports) weather we left half way through our week's holiday .

Spent a week there on my honeymoon in an ocean view room (2nd most expensive). The resort facilities feel very run down. The reception/housekeeping staff really need to lift their game. When we first checked into our room there was another guest luggage in our room and the complementary bottle of sparkling wine on arrival came several hours late. When it did arrive it came warm and with a card addressed to a different couple honeymooning on the island. The room felt very tired and in need of some repairs. The shower had almost rusted off the wall and the bath towels had holes in them. The power points in the bathroom were cracked and seemed unsafe. The balcony had a splendid view but many of the wooden beams had a lot of rot through them and were in desperate need of repair. The gardens of the resort looked well maintained and manicured and the walk t the top of the mountain was stunning. The picnic hamper we took how ever was not. One of the oranges included in the hamper was clearly used in the bar/restaurant as the zest of the orange had been removed resulting in a very soft, inedible orange. The bar staff and restaurant staff could not be flawed, they did an amazing job at making you feel welcome and their service was fantastic. The food however was hit and miss. Our first night their our food seemed a little cold as if it had been pre-prepared 10minutes before serving and was left to sit. The food did improve in the following days. The seafood buffet on the Saturday was fantastic. The Sea Salt dining experience was not being run which was disappointing. The snorkeling was very good with a variety of wild life easily accessible just off the beach in the fish bowl. Overall the natural beauty of the island is fantastic but the new owners of the resort will need a massive capital injection into the resorts facilities and rooms.
