“Lovely views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2013

We stayed at this hotel last week for one night. The first thing that was very noticeable was the smell of old cigarette smoke in our room which was not very pleasant, however the room itself was spacious and the bed comfortable. The bathroom appeared a bit aged with limescale around the taps but everything functioned well. The big plus to the hotel is its position in Corfu Town. The view from the sea facing rooms is wonderful and the balconies large enough to sit out and enjoy watching the ships coming in and out of the bay. The hotel is only a few minutes walk from the centre of the town which is vibrant. The staff at the hotel are polite and helpful particularly the lady on the reception desk. We particularly enjoyed sitting in the outside bar in the evening listening to live music with the cicadas chirruping in the background.

Room Tip: At this hotel it is worth having a sea view.

The hotel is very good (maybe 5 stars is far-fetched). On top of everything else, the staff is soooo polite, always keeping a warm-honest smile! The rooms were clean and spacious, the view to the sea was excellent. Breakfast had a big variety to choose from , personally i would expect to find more local food. The location could not be better, right in the center but without the noise of it. Also, the swimming pool was excellent- big and with sea-water.
The only disadvantage was the lack of parking space.

We stayed at Corfu Palace for a week in the end of July. We booked 2 rooms with a seaview for our family. We got rooms from the third floor with a nice bay over the bay. Rooms are a bit outdated, but enough of space for our luggage and clothes. Large balcony was nice. Location of the hotel is excellent, just 5 minutes walk from the main square and pedestrian streets.

Breakfast is quite good with lot of choices, both hot and cold. Poolside was nice, always enough sunbeds, no matter what time you arrived. Also the barmen can book you one for couple of days. Service in the hotel was very good at all times. Only downside is the strong smell of mould in some areas, like coming down the grand staircase to the lobby - it was pungent!

Room Tip: Go for floors 3-6 to get a nice view.

Came for a quick break, friendly staff though though our flat was walked into 3 times no knocking during our 4 days. We did let reception know though they didn't make a note or apologise.
We felt a little out of the way and did try and walk so far an use the bus stop outside. The front of the hotel needs a touch up though the rear and view are great. We did like having a flat to the right of the pool though not sure why a the hotel wasn't full and it would of been nice to have a sea view room. Generally very friendly but not 5 star, we would of struggled having a week here.
The wifi is impossible sit in one sofa and it works, early check in was great. Food ok, again not 5 star.

I read the reviews before booking this hotel and found most of the comments to be fair.We didn't mind the fact that the rooms were a bit dated, they were spacious ,clean and the air conditioning worked which was just as well considering the temperature was 38 c most days. The location is fantastic...stunning views of the bay and very close to the old town where we found a great selection of tavernas each evening. We hope to return and would recommend it to anyone except possibly young families.

Room Tip: Higher floor rooms for best view.

Compared to a British 5 star british hotel this would be fairly far down the list. Its not Claridges or the Savoy. However my wife and I, who could afford the Savoy if we so wished, had a 5 star experience here. The staff were professional and friendly in a genuine non obsequious way. The rooms did have a dated feel, but the air conditioning worked well, the views from the balcony were tremendous, day or night, and we both had a good nights sleep on what were admittedly firm beds.

We had however reseached our hotel well - we had read between the lines and realised we were not getting the equivalent of a British 5 star hotel, a rating which is really about reflecting the need to be seen to be spending a lot of money to reflect ones inflated view of ones importance.

For 3 nights here we could have spent our money on 1 night at a local golf oriented hotel near us (in Edinburgh) that only exists to pamper the self egos of the really wealthy. How desperate they must be to seem important.

At the Corfu Palace we went for B&B as we wished to eat out at local tavernas in the evening. A typical day would start with a sunshine breakfast on the sun drenched terrace, served by friendly genuinely smiling staff, then a couple of hours by the excellent outdoor pool fringed by walls of floral abundance and shady trees.

Breakfast could be hot or cold, or a mix, as you just helped yourself to what you fancied and was usually followed by an hour or so spent beside the excellent pool . Some people moaned the breakfat was not really hot, not having worked out all you had to do was watch for when the various food sections were replenished and then select what you wanted.

On the last day our flight was not until 10pm and checkout time was 12 noon. The hotel gave us another room till our pickup time (about seven hours) at no charge. Excellent.

The real star rating of this hotel is the setting overlooking Garitsa Bay full of yachts of all descriptions, clear blue skys, sun drenched location, all allied with professional and genuinely friendly staff. One of the most enjoyable stays we have had anywhere.

Room Tip: We were in room 317- view was good slighly obscured by the tops of the trees. Possibly rooms 321 -32...

I read reviews of the Corfu Palce before I booked and some more before I travelled. I was a little concerned to read reports that talked of a tired hotel and surly staff - after all it could have changed since I was last there a dozen or so years ago.

I need not have worried!

The hotel facilities were excellent. We had a superior room on the sixth floor - roomy, pleasantly decorated, full two-place modern bathroom, lovely balcony view - we couldn't have asked for more.

The staff were friendly, courteous and attentive. Dining out on the terrace restaurant wasa a delight. Their was a decent selection to choose from the set menu - 4 courses with a choice of 3 items at each course. Just wonderful.

If I had a criticism at all it would be that the sun-loungers and umbrealla around the pool were rather tired. But it was clear that the hotel management had put together a refurbishment programme which was on-going. I would recommend this hotel to anyone!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 6th floor.
