We stayed for 3 nights at the Carbonaki and found it a lovely little oasis from the heat and the crowds. After a ferry ride to the island that left us frazzled and exhausted (why is queuing nonexistent in Greece?), the taxi that the hotel had arranged for us did not arrive and we had to wait a good 1/2 hr before a free taxi did arrive. He then proceeded to charge us double the rate and refused to take less before giving us our luggage. As we struggled down the stone steps towards the B&B, my daughter's suitcase toppled over sideways and the handle broke off on one side. We eventually managed to drag ourselves into the hotel and were instantly greeted by the most friendly, helpful staff. They pulled out some tools and did their best to fix the suitcase handle, then took us to our beautiful room.
The room was truly an oasis, very clean, good ac system that quickly cooled the room, comfortable beds, big modern bathroom. The room was very quiet and we had great sleeps. There were people next door, but we couldn't hear anything more than the door opening or closing. We were on the main level and we couldn't hear people above us, either. We sat out on the patio by our door, and also at the larger patio by the mini pool, nice and peaceful in the evening.
Breakfast was wonderful, plenty of selection, and we ate outside every morning. All staff were eager to please and quickly attended to our every need, Panos gave us some great restaurant recommendations. the wifi didn't always work, but we took our laptop down to one of the restaurants on the waterfront the advertised free wifi. For the price of a cup of tea, were were able to use the Internet.
The location is great, easy access to all parts of Mykonos by walking a short ways. It was fun to wander in the twisty pathways, you can't get too lost as the town is relatively small. After 3 days of wandering around Mykonos and getting our bearings, we were able to walk with our luggage to catch the ferry (old port), rather than bothering with another taxi. It was also a short walk to either the taxi stand or bus terminal to travel to other parts of the island (the bus takes you to all beaches and is cheap).
Room Tip: We stayed on the ground level, very quiet, any of their rooms would be good.
