After reading some of the positive reviews, I'm wondering if we stayed at the same hotel? This was quite possibly one of the worst hotel experiences we've ever had!
First off, I'll start off by saying something positive, breakfast was good. Coffee was terrible but the buffet itself was very good. Also, the A/C in the rooms works very well.
We arrived in Mykonos by ferry and I should have known we were in trouble when the hotel told us they would send a car to the port to pick us up and then no one showed. We looked around and there were no taxi's. We asked locals at a news stand where the taxi stand was and they told us that we should walk to the hotel as it's just up the street and would only take 10 minutes. It was extremely hot and we're dragging large suitcases. We quickly ran out of sidewalk this is the main road in and out of town which is extremely busy. About half way to the hotel the driver showed up in an unmarked van and apologized saying he went to the wrong port. We had no idea he worked for the hotel until he turned around and showed us the back of his shirt which had the hotel logo in gold.
First off, this hotel is run by 20 year old aspiring models. I'm serious, we saw no employee who was over the age of 30. It's all about image and being "beautiful". Service is definitely secondary. Some of the employees seemed quite nice until there was a problem and then they became quite apathetic. There were also many employees who had a major attitude as if we should have felt lucky that we were allowed to stay there. We booked a Classic Room with a plunge pool which was NOT cheap. Cavo Tagoo is priced similar to a Ritz or Four Seasons but, that's where the similarities end. It is NOT a 5 star hotel! The room itself was an incredible disappointment. It's in need of a total overall. There are stains on the furniture and walls and it was very beat up. Worst of all, there is large window in the shower. If you desire you can open the shade exposing yourself to the room and view outside. Problem is, if you're not interested in taking a shower for all to see, when you lower the shade it is COVERED in mold! Disgusting! I felt more dirty getting out of the shower than I was before entering. Rooms with plunge pool are located on the lower level. Pools are small and they abut the main road. Problem here is, there are two ports and the hotel is located in-between so buses are always shuttling cruise passengers in and out of town. Given the height of the buses, if you're in your pool there is NO privacy. Walls are also paper thin so if you're a light sleeper this hotel is not for you. Plus you will definitely hear road traffic. Rooms are located off stone hallways so where the floor is stone you hear people walking down the hallways at all hours of the day & night --especially women in sandals click clacking down the hall.
As I mentioned, the hotel is located right on the main road just far enough out of town to be inconvenient. It's amazing that buses can pass each other on this road. There is no sidewalk and you would NOT want to walk to/from town to the hotel. Cavo Tagoo claims to have a shuttle service in and out of town. We had no problem getting a ride into town, the problem was always getting back to the hotel. They told us all we needed to do was to give the hotel a call and they would send someone right away. The first night we called 3 times. The last time I called (I was furious because it had been well over an hour), the girl actually said, "okay, this time I will really send someone". OMG! It took 1 1/2 hours for them to pick us up for less than a 5 minute ride. This was at about 11pm so I'm pretty certain that they didn't send someone due to the fact that they were transporting other guests to the to the ferry dock or airport. The second time we went into town when my husband called they told him there were no buses available. Supposedly both their buses were transporting people to either a ferry dock or the airport. The girl he spoke to had no idea when someone would be available to pick us up. My husband gave the girl our cell number and asked her to call us when a bus became available. Needless to say, she never called. This time it was during the day so we did walk to the hotel which was a bit hairy because there are lots of blind curves. Back at the hotel, both shuttle buses were right out front and parked but, of course we never received a call from the girl at the desk nor, did she ever send someone to pick us up. I'm not convinced the driver was ever at the dock or airport. When we complained we were told that the buses priority was taking people to the airport or the ferry. They of course never explained why both buses were both parked at the hotel when we arrived about 10 minutes after our initial call nor, why they never sent anyone into town to pick us up. They just don't care.
Our last day we had an evening flight so we made arrangements for their so-called priority shuttle bus service to the airport. We requested a 5:30pm transport. 5:30p came and went. Both buses were outside but, no one knew where the driver was. They just kept telling us he'll be here. He finally showed up around 5:45. I mention this because if you do stay at this horrible hotel, you should really schedule your transportation with lots of ample time.
Also, we tried to rent a car at the hotel. They supposedly have a car rental onsite but, I'm not sure what the name of it is. We were brought over the gentleman who told us he had a Smart Car available at $75EU for the day! We refused and went over to one of hotel computers and made a reservation at O.K. Car Rental for a mid-size car for $40EU. Our car was delivered and picked up at the hotel. It was all very easy and much less expensive.
I work in the travel industry and often stay at some really nice hotels. This was truly one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had. I imagine there are much nicer places to stay and probably a lot less expensive!
