We have just returned from a week’s stay at Playa Olid apartment over Christmas 2012. We did not book a transfer with the holiday company and it’s only about 25 euro from the airport in a taxi, which took about 10-15 minutes.
The first room we were given was number 505, this was on the fifth floor overlooking the main road and was not a refurbished apartment. We were actually only in it for a couple of minutes as we opened the cupboard containing the dishes to find ants, although first impressions were that it would have been quite noisy next to the road, and that the decor was slightly dated. We went down to reception to report the ants and were offered another room. The second apartment had obviously only just been vacated and had still to be cleaned! We returned to reception where the receptionist offered to let us view a refurbished apartment (number 316) and this was much more to our liking. We were offered the upgrade at a cost of 10 euro per night but managed to negotiate a reduction, and the receptionist was extremely helpful throughout the entire process. This apartment met all of our needs perfectly with a very large (and very hot) shower, and although we were all-inclusive the kitchen area was fitted out with everything you would need if you stayed there on a self-catering basis. The only problem we actually had with the room was when the balcony door got stuck open, and only because we had pulled it too hard. Maintenance were in to fix it within about 10 minutes of us reporting it. The only thing to note about this apartment is that it is adjacent to the main pool and so can be quite noisy during the day, although we were out and about so this wasn’t a problem for us. We spent most of our sunbathing time at the second pool which was much quieter, located to the other side of our apartment.
The food available in the all-inclusive restaurant was of a high standard. Yes it is buffet style but in general there is a large choice, and in terms of the staff we’d like to mention Jobany for making us feel so welcome every night! The standards of cleanliness in the restaurant, bars and resort in general were good. There were various snacks available from the pool bars, such as cheese and ham toasties, hotdogs and chips. We didn’t eat breakfast in the hotel and so can’t comment on it.
The location of these apartments proved to be ideal for us, yes they are on a slight hill but not too strenuous to get to, and the taxis are cheap anyway if really required. At the bottom of the hill is the Original Wigan Pier pub which is well worth a visit, and another 5-10 minute wander from there and you’re in the middle of everything. We will definitely return to Tenerife and would also stay in the Playa Olid apartments again.
