“Great Value Break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2012

I have stayed at the Playaolid two years running in the school 'Easter' holidays with two small children and think overall it is fantastic value for money. The apartments are very clean and the furniture is basic but comfortable. We found most of the staff excellent and the first year when we were stranded due to the 'ash cloud', the manager on reception was fantastic and couldn't do enough to help us. We only ate in the hotel restaurant one morning and to be honest were not very impressed so went to the Wigan Pier at the bottom of the hill most breakfast times and that was very impressive (they also had some excellent daytime entertainment for the kids with magicians and discos etc.) and went further into Adeje in the evenings. The kids pool is also excellent, which is where we seemed to spend most of our time, it is over a little bridge and away from the main pool too so we found this a brilliant place to sunbathe in relative peace and quiet! I have read in another review that there are no lifts but this is definitely not true there are two of them, some of the highest apartments may be difficult to access for the disabled but I didn't stuggle with my pushchair. Adeje is a lovely quiet resort and the weather is beautiful in April very hot but with a nice breeze overall we loved this hotel and would definitely recommend it to people.

Room Tip: Go for yellow block and the higher the better - request sea view on the top floor

Have just returned from staying at the Playa Olid, i stayed all inclusive for a week. The hotel is located on a hill, and about a 10 minute walk to the beach. The rooms where very spacious and clean, the towels where changed everyday which we found to be great, we stayed in the first floor in the green block overlooking the small pool, the bar doesn't open near the small pool till 12pm and open till 5.30pm.
The all inclusive food was great, there was a great variety of different foods from pasta, chicken, fish, pork and salads.also there are plenty of alcoholic drinks to choose from. The entertainment wasn't that great at night, so most nights we went out to the bars,
the staff where very friendly and nothing was too much trouble, will be visiting again in the next few months.

Room Tip: green rooms facing the small pool are nice and quiet.

For a group of 6 young people who went all inclusive the hotel rooms were more than what were required . We was just happy it has ok beds and a fridge . Previous AI place you get 1 room and a toilet where as here you get a living room and kitchen . So we were all really happy . Food was good not best of choice but alway had about 6/7 different this too eat like pizza , pasta , chicken breast , steak and chips etc . Plus the salad bar alway had a great potatoe salad and other stuff . If your after just stoche then the bar serves toasties , chips burgers, hot dog and chicken nuggets . Location was ok just down the road were mc d's , a bank , 24 hour shop and a takeawa all less that 5 min walk . Its about 15 mins from las americas if your looking to go out clubbing etc but taxi were only 5 euros. Entertainment was crap but as i said we wasn't at all interested in that we were more using the hotel as a place to crash and get drunk before we went into las americas . Bar was well stocked and did frozen cocktails . Rum,gin, brandy, whiskey, baileys(local, triple sec, several flavoured snaps and normal vodka not the dry stuff . Its was fresh juices too and not the dry powder stuff like i've have at other places. all in all 9/10 for playa olid . And that only because of the location that let it down for me.

Returned home from here on Wednesday. We enjoyed every minute, it is situated on a hill so if you have mobility issues maybe its not suitable for you, although saying that in the apartments there were lifts to all levels. Yes the rooms are basic but we were staying All Inclusive so we only used the apartment to sleep and get changed. I cant comment as to whether the self catering apartments were the same. There are two pools and a sun terrace with plenty of sunbeds and mattresses. The food was lovely plenty of choice at all meals, yes the breakfast was the same every morning but that was because there was so much choice there was nothing else they could have possibly put on the buffet. There was a good variety of drinks on the all inclusive not just the usual boring ones you get fed up with after a week. The Staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them and the service was excellent. I emailed them a few days before we went to request a low floor as I have a fear of lifts and they responded to my email to say that had been dealt with. The entertainment wasnt too bad, look out for the Guitar Man on a Tuesday he is well worth going to see. All in all a good holiday and we will definitely be going back.

We booked this last minute and to be honest as we have stayed here before didn't think it would be too bad. Traveled in the beginning of February. Well placed in Playa Fanabe with about a 5 minute walk to the nice sandy beach. Lots of lovely cheap restaurants along the prom in Porto Colon. There is quite a hill to walk up to get back to Playa Olid so it might not suit those with mobility issues.
Now for the place. There is a LCD screen in the reception area showing slides of lovely appointed rooms. Don't be fooled these are PROPOSED improvements to the property. We were allocated room 311 green, same level and right behind the pool. The room was very old and musty. The bathroom smelled of, well, bathroom things, yuck. The kitchen area is small with 2 electric rings, fridge without freezer, sink, coffee maker and toaster. There is no oven. There is no iron, if you want to use one there is a minimum of 1 weeks hire and it is 15 euros with a 10 euro deposit.(we were only staying 3 nights) There is no hairdryer, same rental options as the iron. If you want to watch TV there is a charge for this. The beds were typical Spanish fare, hard!! Also we asked for a double and got 2 singles pushed together, but this is also typical in the Mediterranean countries as well. There is no cleaning of the apartments on 3 days. Also where we were situated is the main thoroughfare through to reception. Every night we were woken by suitcases being hauled around at all hours, what time do people have to get there transport to the airport!! 3am, 4am, 5am and so on. There are 2 pools and also a sundeck overlooking the top pool, there seemed to be plenty of chairs and cushions to go around. the top pool only gets sun on one side, the other is shrouded in shade all day.
We will not be staying at Playa Olid again because I resent being asked to pay for things that I would expect to be included. there is an American saying, "being nickle and dimed". Maybe I am to used to going to Vegas and just expect more for my £60 a night room only.

Room Tip: refuse any rooms 306 through 315 Green, your bedroom is right in line of the luggage trains at all h...

We stayed here for a week, rooms were very clean and were cleaned regularly, cleaning staff excellent! Good location to beach restaurants and few bars near by. If you didn't want to leave the complex you have everything you need from pool bar, night entertainment and 24hr reception (good for early check out)! Only thing is some noise from other apartments due to thin walls can disrupt your sleep in! Overall I would stay here again!
