“Good but not 5 star”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

When we arrived at the hotel it was raining and once in the hotel reception we were greeted with buckets everywhere catching the water leaking through the ceiling - not what you would expect from a 5 star hotel! It did get better though ... our room didn't leak and was in fact quite large and very clean. The food is good but the drinks service at dinner could be slow. The staff are really pleasant and helpful. This isn't a bad hotel and caters very well considering the number of guests it holds. It's just the silly things like broken tiles around the pool, grubby sun loungers and umbrellas and faded pool towels that let this hotel down. It's the attention to these sort of details that make the difference between 4 and 5 star. Location is good just a short walk to 2 beaches and very near shops and supermarkets in.

Room Tip: choose a room on a higher floor for a better view

We decided to return to the Costa Adeje Gran during half term week as we had such a wonderful time the previous year. Again we were not disappointed (other than with the weather - It rained a lot!) The rooms were spotless, the food was plentiful (although still some odd combinations but they are catering for all nationalities) THe air con in the room was next to useless and there was no noticeable difference whether it was on or off. I know it was in the high 20s so I cant imagin what it would be like mid summer. We didnt complain though so it might have just been our room. The service of the staff was impeccable although on the days in rained the bar staff were probably overwhelmed a little bit.
I know this is not normal but when it rained there was not an awful lot to do however we still managed to swim in the rain, sunbathe, under an umbrella, (in the rain) and have a very enjoyable time. The pools were clean and temperature lovely and the policy of removing towels before 10am (if unaccompanied) was still in place so that was great too.The quality of the entertainment seemed to be improved from last year and there were a couple of acts that I did not fancy seeing but had a great time (Comedy Elvis being one of them.) The Loro Parque act seemed more about making money than entertaining and the photos are not cheap (10 Euros). The hotel and service was as we remembered but I would say that it could do with a lick of paint as it was looking a little tired and I guess it looked worse because of the buckets everywhere to catch all of the leaks and drips and the corridors were extremely slippery. As we were returning guests we were given a small box of chocs and water for the room one evening so that was a nice touch. All in all a good break and still a good hotel.

Room Tip: There is an additional charge for a pool view but these are definatley the best views (especially to...

We booked this holiday quite late so flights were restricted, which meant we arrived at the hotel at 1am. Check in was ok, but we had to take own cases to the rooms.
Interconnecting rooms were great and were some of the largest rooms we have ever had. Unlike others we found the Aircon perfectly OK.
First day was glorious but there was a lack of lougers and was very crowded. We ate in the Pool Bar, we were already aware that you had to pay for this, but many other guests were getting confused/cross about this. Likewise some drinks were free, beer, wines, soft drinks, but most others were chargable.
We very much got the impression that as First Choice only do AI now that the hotel was wanting to keep the First Choice business, but were struggling to adapt and still wanted to retain its other board options.
Staff were always very helpful and courtious.
Then the rain came.
We had the most awful rain. Roofs were leaking buckets and towels everywhere, not a great impression. The rain meant that the Lobby bar got very full and busy. All good humoured and free wifi helped but the staff I think so used to putting the little flurishes to drinks/coffees you expect in a 5* hotel seemed to struggle with demands for large volumes of drinks. Again perhaps a reflection of the AI offer.
It rained was over cast for most of the week but the hotel is large enough to never feel cramped.
The buffet restuarant was OK, breakfast became a bit repetative, evening meals ranged from very good to virtually inedible. Their take on Chinese was the worse I have ever had.
Evening entertainment was in my opinion poor. I just don't rate cabaret/singing acts. The Elvis was awful. The kids however loved the animal show.
This all sounds a bit negative but on the whole the family agreed it was actually one of our best holidays, make up by the excellent staff and large, pleasant and clean hotel.

Room Tip: South facing rooms got teh sun in the morning and were very quite.

This is the second time in 6 months we have returned to this hotel, staff and food amazing! This time we have bought other family members with us and they enjoyed it!
The only negative things I would have to say is the restaurant was very very hot and the air conditioning really needs to be on full, and the balcony has no privacy with the trelice in between other than that fantastic and really cannot wait to return thank you once again for a fantastic stay and your staff are fantastic!
Also mini club staff work so hard and really take care of your little ones outstanding A stars all round!!!

Room Tip: Suites are amazing but the rooms are also fantastic

First off I have to agree with many reviewers who have stated this is not a 5* hotel. We stayed in 4* hotel in Cuba 2 years ago which could knock spots off the Adeje Gran and for a lot less money too despite being further away. Even given that many items are not plentiful on Cuba the hotel made up for it with amenities and so much included we literally had nothing extra to pay for.
Positives:
- the staff worked very hard to keep the hotel as dry as possible. The hotel is designed to maximise air flow and cool you down in the usual weather in Tenerife, but is unable to cope with rain of monsoon type rain.
- The quality of food was excellent. Anyone saying there is a lack of variety must be really picky. The food was replenished regularly and only at very busy times did it run a bit low but was replaced quickly.
- The room was a good size as was the bathroom. There were plenty of free toiletries and the room was kept spotlessly clean. View of the mountains was lovely, although the weather often stopped us enjoying them.
- Meal times were spot on. Breakfast from 7.30 - 10.30 is just what you want on holiday and early breakfast could be ordered if you were going out early.
- The day time activities organised by the animation team were plenty and varied although we did not join in with them.
- Beautiful and spacious lobby with plenty of seats for evening entertainment.
- Some evening entertainment was excellent, such as the Beatles and the Eagles tribute bands. There was something for younger children every evening including a Halloween disco, although we did not need the kids activities.
- All staff worked very hard but most were not particularly friendly or welcoming.
- Must disagree with negative comments about children's behaviour. I found all the children in the hotel to be very well behaved, polite and with good manners.
- Located close to a few shops, a bar and not too far to walk to more varied shops.

Negatives:
- We noticed tables not being cleared and reset quickly enough so people had to wait, we avoided this by going when we figured it would be quieter. We were never asked by waiting staff whether the food was alright or whether we wanted any extra drinks, although if you asked them when they cleared your plate away (you had to be quick as they whipped the plate away very swiftly) they would get one.
- Never did find the late night sandwiches but fortunately did not need any as full from dinner.
- For a 5* hotel I would expect evening meal to have at least one course as waiter service or for there to be an option for dinning in a restaurant with waiter service without paying an extra 14 euro each (42 euro for 3 which is a lot when it is added up). Some told us that it was not worth the extra.
- Too little included in the all-inclusive price. Extra for access to the spa (expected it for treatments which by the way were rather pricey), pool/billiards table, only 3 alcoholic cocktails included, mini-fridge not filloed, not even any water in it & 2 euro a day for a safe which in a 5* hotel I would expect to be included in all inclusive.
- The 3rd bed is a very uncomfortable sofa bed which might do for a child but not a 3rd adult. Good job our 3rd adult was our daughter who is small enough to share my side of the 'double' bed - no one could sleep in the middle of it as it is 2 singles pushed together which moved apart if you got in the middle.
- Air conditioner was very poor and only cooled the room a little.
- Library was open plan and the music from the lobby below could be very clearly heard. The game/card room had nothing to play in it e.g. cards, chess, backgammon.
- The pools were very very cold. Supposed to be heated in winter but not sure when that is, although would have thought late October/November could constitute that and needed to be heated with the weather we had.
- Too few bar and waiting staff who were rushed off their feet.
- Only sugar free drinks were water and diet coke. Severely limited what I could drink (diabetic). Even if there had been sugar free Sprite it would have helped. Bought some from shop and kept in room fridge. No coffee/tea making facilities in room so had to go down to lobby if you wanted a cuppa first thing.
- Milk was all UHT. I thought this was only common practice in lower graded hotels in Spain but would not expect this in a 5*. Is it a Spanish thing?
- Hotel website states 500m from Duque and Fanabe beaches and that they have golden sands. Not what I saw, they are both further than 500m and both are grey.

This is not a proper all-inclusive hotel and did not give me the 5* experience I had hoped for.

Third stay in 18 months and enjoyed everything just as much. The staff are fantastic with nothing being too much trouble for them. We always stay on a B&B basis as we know many great restaurants in the area and like to vary in the evenings. Breakfast is superb with such a vast selection no-one could say there is nothing they like. Yes the decor could do with touching up in some areas but it does not take away the 5* aspect of the Hotel as some people suggest! Some people just like to moan!!!!

I have stayed at this hotel on a number of occasions, and it is still as good as it ever was.

The hotel is spotlessly clean, the staff are polite and helpful, the entertainment is good as well.

The rooms are large and well presented.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone

Room Tip: Ask for pool views.
