“our favourite hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2011

It is the seventh time we have stayed at the Costa Adeje Gran and we can not fault it.(although it would be better to have an LCD tv) The reception staff were always very helpful and pleasant as were the bar staff. The animation team worked hard to please all. Food was excellent from fruit juice/cereal/fruit/yoghurt etc to piping hot eggs/bacon/sausage/beans/tomatoes even chips for breakfast and any amount of toast/butter marmalade/jam/honey/cheese and cooked meats. A different combination every day if you like. Evening meals were great too - soup/salads/bread/cheese/crackers and all sorts of dressings as well as hot cooked meats or fish and pizzas. A different 'show cooking 'every evening was available along with a selection of veg and potatoes. Something for all tastes unless you were a fussy eater. The restaurant staff were always on hand to help and tables were cleared efficiently.
Evening entertainment was much the same as all over the island but quite acceptable. A different artiste each night with the usual parrot and snake shows for the kids. Happy hour in the bar is from 11pm to 12pm and happy hour around the pool bar is 5pm to 6pm - worth remembering if you fancy a tipple.
We love this hotel and have stayed here on previous occasions with family and young children Excellent hotel - go on give it a try !!

Room Tip: Hign floors have best views and sea view better

I don't know how the hotel ratings are carried out but no way is this a 5 star hotel. The first impression when you approach and then see the very grand entrance is very impressive. The reception staff attended to us very quickly and even gave us a voucher for a free drink at the bar as our room was not ready and we had arrived early. The room was very nice but the TV and shower could be upgraded to a more modern standard. As has been mentioned above the food quality was poor . Bacon, sausages, scrammbled eggs, beans and mashed potatoes were very cheap quality or watered down as were all the fruit juices in the morning. The carvery meats and roast chicken were better in the evenings.
Some of the staff in the bar areas were quite abrupt and rude. Perhaps lost in translation but not too sure.
The best staff were the reps who were always trying to have everyone involved in the activities which my son of nine loved. They were not over "pushy" but the balance was just right very friendly and great with everyone involved.
Overall we all enjoyed the holiday but after the great first impression the standard of food and a few of the staff let us down and as I said this would not be the case in a 5 star hotel. The standard either goes up or the star ranking needs to go down.

First time here, and thoroughly enjoyed for all the family. Went with our two children and grandparents and the hotel catered for all.
There was kids club for the children, activities throughout the day for adults through the animation team, who didn't pester you too much when asked if you wanted to play bowls, tennis, basketball, football or table tennis.
The food was exquisite, from the breakfast through to dinner, the lunch was phenomenal considering it was just 'lunch'! You could quite easily have passed it off as a dinner course.
Fresh fish everyday, different pizzas everyday, along with every kind of meat dish available.
Rooms were spacious and the hotel in itself was kept in tip top condition, everything you would expect from a 5* hotel really.
Would recommend to all friends and family and already planning to go back for two weeks next year.
If anything, and this had nothing to do with the hotel is that the area surrounding wasn't the best for eating out, or any kind of nightlife, but because we had the children and was all inclusive the entertainment at nightime was sufficient for everyone!

we stayed here in february half term week , we booked a suite which had a large lounge area (where 1 child and 1 cot was put) and a bed room (large) and a bathroom.

Fantastic room, good price, fantastic views of the sea but quite a walk down to the sea area. Prob about a mile down hill and the walk back up !

this hotel is up in the shopping area/ market area. so we used to walk until we were tired and get taxi back !

really good internet - i think i paid extra but it worked in the room which was useful as travelling with young baby and needed to access internet for work

Food was lovely, loads of choice, we had all inclusive which was well worth it. There is also an a la carte which is free if you have booked a suite. Really nice and do try the steak !

its quite a large hotel with 2 different parts, but meet in the middle for restaurant and reception.

We did move rooms as our suite was rather noisey at night from the shows, and music that played in speakers outside the room in the ceiling, but they were very helpful and moved up

there is a nudist area on the roof !

lovely pools (about 2 or 3) very warms childrens area and pool

loads of sun bathing areas, and no shortage of sun beds

kids disco nice and great animation all day

Room Tip: ask for one with sea view

Currently it's our 6th stay since 2004 at this wonderful hotel. Large clean rooms with nice balconies either facing the ocean or the breathtaking mountains. The food is average fair for Tenerife and hotels of this size. There are several pools on the ground level and one on the roof top where you can also find two relaxed nudist areas. Even if the hotel is fully booked the pools are never crowded.

One person wrote in his review that the WiFi doesn't work with IPads or Iphones. I'm writing this review on my IPad in my room at this hotel right now. You have to manually add the WiFi network of the hotel in your IPad settings under WiFi other network. It takes 10 seconds. Then you change the settings from manual to auto and the hotel login screen pops up and you enter the provided user name and password. You only have to do this once. From then on the IPad connects automatically. It is really simple and works the same way on all password protected networks in hotels or elsewhere. Hope this can be helpful to future guests.

Whilst I would say that this is not a five star hotel by comparison to English hotels, the rooms are spacious and comfortable and have all the facilities you would expect e.g fridge, balcony, safe, big beds, air conditioning, TV etc. The breakfast had a great selection but at times was a little disorganized. Despite the hotel being very large it is very well designed in that you very rarely get a feel for how many guests are staying there and the rooms are lovely and quiet at night. For the money we paid to stay in this hotel for a week it was exceptionally good value for money and surpassed other hotels we have stayed in at a similar cost. The only reason why I say it is not a five star is that it lacked some small personal touches that you would expect from a luxury hotel however the myriad of facilities maybe what makes it five star eg mini golf, hairdressers, gym, squash and tennis courts etc as opposed to the quality of the food or service. Overall I would definitely recommend a stay in this hotel if you are looking for a week in the sun with a huge choice of restaurants and bars within walking distance. My top tip though is to walk right out of the hotel and along the coast to Caleta which is a small fishing village doing amazing seafood and tapas in a picturesque setting.

We all agreed this is no where near 5 stars except in the a la carte restuarant. The rest is a mixture of 2, 3 and 4 stars. We stayed at the RIU Arecas just further along from this hotel during Easter 2008. We prefer the Adeje Gran overall. They are the same price range roughly.
I agree with most of the reviews previously.
If you like swimming then the pools here are worth a mention as the kiddies pool and the main pool are both properly heated and we swam when it was raining and windy etc. You cannot do this in a lot of places in the Canaries...trust me! Lanzarote seems to be stricter about keeping the pool temperatures (those that are supposed to be heated) to 24 degrees. No problem here as these pools were about 26 to 28 degrees. The other two pools are freezing, though.
Rooms were pretty big and many interconnecting - this was a big attraction as we have very young children. You can get quite a few TV channels in English including the main UK ones BBC, ITV etc.
Staff were on the whole excellent. We were there for 2 weeks at Easter and it was very busy but you could manage to get a sunbed. Weather was very mixed but enough sun overall. The weather is always a bit of a lottery at this time of year...Beaches are good around here and the waves were great!
If you have children then this would be a good bet as the entertainment team are really good. Barbara and most of her team make a point of making you feel welcome without being intrusive and tacky - some places (even 4 or 5 Stars) can be a little over the top in this area.
Shame about the pool-side furniture - very tacky plastic tables and chairs and the food served/service was a bit of a let down - 2 stars. You wait until you try their "Pizza Baguette" (from the pool bar next to the towel hut) ....I wonder if the Hotel Manager would feed it to his or her family?

The hotel overall needs renovating. That said we would still go back at the right price as the main buffet restaurant food was quite good overall with some great theme nights. Also, the tables were quite well spaced apart from one another. The RIU hotel chain crams everyone in and you often feel like you're on the same table as your neighbour.

The staff worked hard and are a credit. Good location, too, despite being up a steep hill from the seafront.

We'd like to go back but maybe in a few years when they've renovated it as there are other good places to go nearby...
