“'Great all round value'”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2014

Just back from an enjoyable stay at the Luabay Hotel (now changed ownership to Hovima) Could not really complain about anything really. The location to beach is ideal with shops/restaurants near to hand if required. The hotel room we had (4th. floor) was kept spotless with excellent maid service during our stay. The large, comfortable dining room could not be faulted. The range and quality of the food was v.good also.We were also pleasantly surprised by the nightly entertainment programme while we were there.Outside the two pools (one heated) and the large sunbed areas made a nice change. The pool areas were well served by continuous bar and snack facilities.... must say all staff ,reception, bar, and dining were great !!

Traveled with my Wife for a quick break in April, transfer from airport took no more than 1/2 hour,on arrival quickly checked in and given a room on the 8th floor overlooking the gardens with partial sea view.
Food was good with plenty to choose from a bit better than your standered A/I. Wish I could say the same about sprits as they are dire ended up buying Vodka from local shop, rest of drinks are fine.
Room clean and of a fair size, Hotel guests at this time of year mostly older couples so if you have kids maybe not for you.
Worst thing about the place is the resort, with every scam under the sun on the go, watch out for the timeshare reps and the pick pockets.

Just returned from the Luabay Hotel in Costa Adeje. I should mention that the hotel was taken over (on 1st May) during our stay and is now The Hovima.

The holiday was excellent value for money, spotlessly clean in all areas and the staff were very friendly, courteous and helpful. It is also ideally situated, close to the beach, with good walks along promenades in either direction to the next place along. If you walk too far, then the taxis are very cheap.

In light of suggestions on room position I e-mailed and requested a quiet room on floor 4 or above and this was indeed what we were allocated.

The room (539) was cleaned, and towels replaced daily. Yes the shower tray did overflow, but as we had read the reviews we were forewarned and rolled up a towel which illimminated the problem and the maid followed suit and left a rolled up towel in place each day. All you need to do is mention it and it will be sorted. Yes the bathroom does have a glass door which opens both inwards and outwards, but there is absolutely no way that privacy is compromised, the glass is thick and opaque and you can see nothing at all through it. We did not have a problem with the drawer space (there were three drawers inside the wardrobe which had lots of hanging space with plenty of hangers, and plenty of room below to lay out shorts etc..... No there were no chairs in the room but there was nothing to stop you relaxing on the bed or on the balcony where there were two chairs and a table. Our Balcony overlooked the tennis courts and had a sea view to the left and a mountain view to the right.

We did not have a problem with the lifts. To be fair, they were a little slow, but we never waited more that a few minutes and at the end of the day we were on holiday not late for an appointment.

The pool area again was spotless and we were able to find three sunbeds every afternoon. However on the day before the Hovima takeover all the sunbeds were gathered up and next morning had been replaced with an abundance of new wicker effect very comfortable sunbeds and there were plenty available all day. There is absolutely no need to race out at first light and throw down your towel.

The restaurant was also spotless and the choice was vast and of good quality. I find it very difficult to imagine how anyone can claim they could not find anything they wanted to eat.
We took advantage of both the Mexican and Spanish nights in the Al a cart restaurant but would say that the Mexican was the better of the two and well worth a visit.

The seating/ lounge area, spotless again. Not characterless, but spacious and airy with comfortable leather sofas and arm chairs. One drawback was that the entertainment area and lounge areas were open plan, meaning that if you did not want to take advantage of the entertainment, conversation was competing with the noise from the show. The "Charlie Chaplain" character was excellent, very clever and funny, well worth seeing.

Although we did not use it, the quality of the food at the poolside snack bar did seem to be better presented and of better quality following the Hovima takeover and in appeared that the new company were aiming to raise standards where possible.

All in all I would recommend that if you are in doubt about this hotel, then go and form your own opinion. We all have different expectations and opinions. For us the first consideration has to be cleanliness and this was definitely not in doubt, the second would be room quality and this we found was quite adequate, thirdly, food choice an quality and this got a thumbs up.

Safety deposit boxes are available, (24.75 for a week with 10 euro refundable). There is a 15 euro deposit for beach towels which is fully refundable on their return.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on floor 4 or above towards the back of the hotel.

Traveled with my wife and 10years old grandson. Room small but good views and spotless. The hotel was clean throughout and the staff were without fail helpful and courteous. The food was good with plenty of choice . The pool area had plenty of seating and enjoyed an excellent view as did the dining room. I had read some reviews prior to traveling and had some apprehension but these dissipated from the moment of my arrival at reception. The animation team could be improved but overall we all had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday. Holiday stay in April 2014 .

Room Tip: only saw the room we stayed in

After reading some reviews of this hotel I was very apprehensive about my visit to the Luabay in Costa Adeje. Reviews complained about everything from the hotel staff and linens to the food and sunbeds, but they could not have been more wrong!
The hotel itself is spotlessly clean and quite impressive with marble style floors and steps in the public areas. At first the floors made me tread carefully as it was a little hard to see the edge of the steps etc but I soon got used to them. The reception area is bright and airy with an open design giving loads of space, the reception area leads into the bar and the theatre areas. Glass doors leading out to the three levels of sun terrace and pool areas. There were plenty of sun beds, despite signs asking guests not to reserve beds many people did so quite unnecessarily thus causing people to occasionally need a little bit of a help to locate a few beds together with a parasol. However on our last night the whole supply of sunbeds were changed as part of the re-branding of the hotel to the new owners and a large supply was brought in.
The room that we were allocated was the centre room at the front of the hotel so was considerably larger than the normal room. The bathroom was spacious with plenty of hot water and fresh towels daily, on one or two occasions the towels were a little frayed but still spotlessly clean.
The restaurant is located on the first floor with a terrace outside overlooking the lower and first pool areas. A buffet style service provides a large selection of good quality food, the variety of food supplied should allow anyone to eat well, even the most conservative of eaters and the adventurous alike. At first the crockery was a little tired but again as part of the re-branding the crockery was all replaced with new.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful. They appeared to cover more than one area, after working in the restaurant many went on the work in the bar. Sonia, Marcus, Fernando and Ebay to name just a few who contributed to our enjoyment of the stay at the hotel. The a la carte restaurant, located at the rear of the main restaurant provided an alternative to the buffet style serving Mexican and Spanish menus available twice per week as part of the all inclusive option.
The entertainment provided was varied with daily activities provided by Francisco and his sister. Both were really friendly and gave us all a bit of fun during the day with activities for the less active with guess the weight competitions and activities like shuffleboard to water polo and shooting for the more active.
As people who like to try and learn a bit more Spanish whenever we stay in a Spanish speaking country we were encouraged and helped to understand the words used which differ in the Canaries to those used in mainland Spain - especially the word for drinking straw where the word used in mainland Spain has a very different meaning in the Canaries!!!

In all, a fantastic hotel with an excellent staff who provide friendly customer service with a smile.

Room Tip: The centre room at the front of the hotel is larger then those on the sides and give a sea view.

This is a great little hotel. We'd stayed here in April 2013 and our return in April 2014 was just as good. Just the two of us went. The sunbathing is on 3 terraces with the top one being pretty much adults only (although not designated as such) and lovely and quiet. The room we had was huge and had a lovely sea view. Although it was at the front of the hotel the noise from the bars etc. stopped about 11.30 and all was quiet after that - no problem sleeping. The best feature of the hotel is definitely the restaurant. It is the best organised and most efficient we've been to. You are taken to a table on arrival and served with drinks instantly. The staff including the managers are so friendly and are constantly rushing round clearing tables and generally making sure everything is ok. The quality and choice of food is also excellent. The entertainment is decidedly average but there is a cracking soul singer most nights in Bar Unique across the road and St Eugen's bar further up the road on the left is always good.

This was recently refurbished to a high standard of the Thomson Platinum range. The whole package was excellent value and the staff in the hotel especially Alfrano were most helpful. Good facilities for couples and families and a brilliant location for the beach with great walks to the east and west along the promenade. Food and drink all good and the speciality dinners not to be missed.
Overall an excellent holiday venue.

Room Tip: High room overlooking pool.
