“Bahia Princess - we'd got there again!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2011

This was our second visit to the Bahia, and thanks to emailing the hotel beforehand we got the room we requested. The rooms are spacious, we had great views and beds are really comfy. There is only one plug socket is in the bathroom, which is a bit of a pain, although their hairdryer isn't too bad, but you do then have to stand in an airless bathroom drying your hair (not good when you're hot anyway!) but that's my only complaint about the room. We did Loro Parque and Sounds of the Musicals - well worth their money and highly recommended! The pool areas are clean, plenty of sunbeds and poolside entertainment is there if you want it (a little in your face if you are down by the main pool). The only thing that stops this hotel being excellent, is the dire entertainment at night with the exception of the Showstoppers show and the 3 Tenors (they were excellent) other than that - out of tune singers, looking nothing like their publicity pictures (Drifters had a woman in their line up!) and it just became embarassing. You can find decent cabaret acts if you do go out of the hotel. On saying that, we'd definately return to be well looked after by their excellent staff who couldn't do enough for you and stunning looking hotel.

stayed at bahia princess from 20th May to 27th May 2011,normally with 4 or 5 star hotels you get a welcome glass of bubbly , not here ,room not ready for one hour , given ticket for free drink at bar only to be told non alcoholic , e mailed hotel 3 months previously and asked for quiet room overlooking pool and if possible a sea view we got that, room number 266 friends of ours were in room 13 BEWARE ! room right by taxi rank and very noisy all friday and saturday night . had to rent ???? fridge as we are diabetic and need to keep insulin cool, 5 euros for key deposit and 28 euros for the week ...rip off ! no tea making facilities and a snotty letter if they find your kettle [ they didnt find ours ] drinks in bar are very expensive 3.60 euro for a beer most bars charge 1.50 or 2. there are 52 steps down to the dining room and it feels like there are 152 steps coming back , food was okay but not 4/5 star [ chips with everything inc breakfast ] night entertainment was pretty poor , animacion team worked their socks off daily around the pool with kids and adults .only large pool heated .thomson reps were very good , very informative and knowledgable about resort .room was very comfortable, nice beds and maid service was excellent. when out and about Always haggle in the shops , clip on shades for your glasses started at 44 euros got him down to 6 , when you walk along the front you keep getting asked to have a meal or a drink [ 1 euro for a large beer ] one guy told us that he didnt water the beer down like some of the others !!!!. two good bars to drink in are The Wigan Pier across the road and on the corner [ theres a lap dancing bar next door ] , they have fun quizzes and games every night plus tribute singers which are far better than those in the hotel , also try the Moonlight bar along the front , cheap drinks and good entertainment . Would i go back ? to the resort, definitely to the hotel ,no there are better hotels. I've tried to give an honest opinion based on other hotels and resorts that weve been to, you may like the Bahia Princess its all a matter of taste , but as i said earlier weve been in better ones .

Room Tip: e mail hotel and ask for rooms not facing road

Stayed for 12 nights - could not find any faults with this hotel.

Staff -fantastic, very friendly and helpful.
Food - amazing, so much choice, always fresh and well cooked.
Room - lovely aways cleaned, big and spacious. Only strange thing about this 4star - Be aware that they prefer you to not plug anything in - ie straightners/phone/ipod - so no plug socket in the bedroom part - there is one in the bathroom tho.

Thomson - Great service, went on 3 trips.
Panoramic Tiede - long day but well worth it - greta views from the volcano
Northern delights - nice relaxed day - beautiful botanical gardens
Sound of Musicals - show night - brilliant! Its a must see!

Room Tip: Quiet pools near the main bar above main pool

This is a good all round hotel and has many positive features. We stayed here for one week over the Easter. The staff were warm, friendly and welcoming. The hotel is spotless and the grounds and pool area very well looked after. The food is very good and my daughter who suffers with food allergies to eggs and peanuts was well looked after by the head chef . Entertainment is ok, but if its not to your taste in one hotel you can always go to the sister hotel the Guayarmina Princess next door. There were only a few nights that we ended up going to our room early because the entertainment wasn't to our liking. The chinese acrobats were really good as was the Elvis impressionist .The Bahia Princess seemed much quieter than the Guayarmina with a slightly older profile of clients in the time we stayed.
The only down side for us was requesting a room away from the road through Thomson, the travel operator. We did not get a room away from the road and consequently suffered a lack of sleep most nights from the noise of the bars and music from across the road. We decided not to change rooms after the first night because the hotel rep told us that level of noise was ' unusual '. Her hearing must be less sensitive than ours ! The second night was quiet which was just as well because we were exhausted , but then the noise started up again early in the week and as we were half way through the holiday decided not to waste time moving rooms, but to have a tipple before bedtime to help us get to sleep. Thankfully I also had some earplugs which came in useful. The road traffic was not that loud if the balcony doors were closed, but somehow the music seemd to be able to penetrate. It seems that if you contact the hotel then your chances of getting a good room improve dramatically. Don't bother with the travel operator . The room itself was large , clean and tastefully decorated and we couldn't fault the cleaning service.
This hotel is in a good location if you like a busy resort with shops nearby. There are lots of steps which is fine if you are fit and have good balance, but those with disabilities might struggle especially when the lifts are out of order. At times I wondered about the traffic fumes from the nearby road and if you like peaceful surroundings with beautiful gardens then this is not the hotel for you. On reflection I would have preferred to be at the Princess hotel in La Palma, which although in the middle of a banana plantation has fantastic views , larger pools and is much more theraputic if you need relaxation simply because it is quieter and the air is cleaner. I was slightly disappointed with the size of the pools which appear to be much larger in the photographs, but the main one was heated and surprisingly uncrowded although not being very big.
There are some good days out if you have the time and energy. We had a fantastic trip to Loro Parque . This really is a world class experience, but take your mobile phones and be aware that it does not have a PA system or any means of finding lost children or people, so if you decide to visit make sure you stick together as it is very busy. The restaurants also get very busy and if you have to queue for food it takes time out of seeing some of the animals. The dolphins, orcas and sea lion shows are a must !
Overall this is a good hotel , but your experience is greatly enhanced if you have a room away from the road and you enjoy being in a busy resort , Sadly we will not be returning as the lack of sleep over a week tainted our experience and we did not come away from holiday feeling as refreshed as we have otherwise done on previous holidays. I recommend it with reservation about the location of rooms.

Spent 2 weeks here and found all staff very friendly and helpful with nothing to much trouble. Entertainment varied and very good. Although buffet style food always plenty of choice and we found the containers were constantly being refilled. We never had to queue for a meal Rooms are better at higher levels as some of the lower rooms ie around pool area are dark and no outlook due to greenery. We e:mailed 3 weeks before our holiday and got a room of our choice overlooking the pool. We would definitely revisit. For cakes, coffee, snacks and freshly made baguettes of your choice visit The Pantry. Turn left out of hotel, cross the road and on to a paved area. Cafe is 50 yards on right hand side. Highly recommended. Out of hotel turn left and left again walk down road to promenade turn left or right for superb walks in either direction.

Room Tip: we had room 4006

Just returned from a week at the Bahia Princess went with open mind even after reading
mixed reports. Room allocation was on the ground floor which my husband didn't like so we requested a higher floor which was no problem we had to wait 2 days but that was fine. Lots of cupboard space and a very powerful shower with constant hot water. Cannot fault the staff especially, Pablo, Sammir and Jonathon who were so friendly and professional. - Excellent service. The standards in the hotel are high and it definately deserves a 4 star rating. The pool areas are superb and cater to both families and adults who prefer quieter surroundings. The restaurant provided a very good selection for both breakfast and evening meal even though it was good one week was enough of buffet food. There are loads of restaurants nearby if you fancy a change. Drinks prices were very reasonable in the hotel. We watched most of the late evening entertainment which was a very mixed bag, there was an drag artist who was very funny and then there was a tribute to the carpenters which was anything but!! The cost to rent a safe is 15 euros a week which i don't think is that high. Our party included 4 adults and 2 teenagers and we all had a great time and if the opportunity arose we would consider staying at the hotel again.

Room Tip: charge to your room easier than cash
