We came, we saw, we stayed! In a seaview room with terrific vistas over pool, gardens and out to sea. Receptions was slick and friendly with ice cold cava in our hands within minutes and a cart to take us to our room as soon as we were ready - no rush, we're on holiday. But we did want to rush because it was so good! The room was nicely chilled, AC that worked for a change, although a little on the small side, but that didn't really detract. A bottle of Cava sat on the tab;le chilling alongside a large bowl of fruit and a welcome note from the management. This was our first visit to this hotel and although we had emailed our room preference no other dialogue had taken place, so this was both unexpected and very welcome - a delightful touch. The state of the room and bathroom was immaculate, well supplied with the usual soaps and gels and with slippers and robes. A great way to start the holiday.
We explored the site and found it to be huge, but not overpowering. It is set on a steepish hill overlooking the Del Duque beach with several pools - one large salt water, the rest heated fresh water. They have utilised the lava formations from millenia past in configuring the pools which is both startling and decorative - hard to descibe, but best experienced when swimming. There were plenty of sun loungers which had six inch thick mattresses on them - soo comfortable - and cabanas which got taken early in the day. In some of the locatons they could be a bit overcrowded, so it's best to choose your spot carefully. Access to the beach is out the back gate by roomcard.
Eating at Del Duque was a delight, although the evening buffet was poor - long queues, not enough food out or replenished and too few staff to cope. Breakfast was similar but slightly better with a good selection of fruit for breakfast. The other restaurants were very good - La Brasserie served superb Confit of Duck and a nice Creme Brulee, La Tasca a hefty Lamb Shank and Creme Canaria (Creme Brulee in Tenerifean!), while the Hacienda offered veal or steak and a brilliant Chocolate Brownie for dessert! Service was quick and friendly, although Hacienda was a bit busy on one visit. The only complaint I would offer was the use of tinned tuna in a tuna salad - not 5* quality.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Peacock strutting it's stuff is fabulous especially when he opens his fan tail. We were on a HB offer which was good value and more flexible than you might think because although expected to eat from a shorter selection HB menu, if you did in fact order off the a la carte, they didn't seem to mind. We would go back tomorrow and will certainly do so next year.
