“Holiday May 2012”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2012

My husband enjoyed a lovely holiday at the El Mirador. The hotel is in a great location, rooms are beautiful (albeit plastic plants could go) and the hotel staff are very friendly and attentive. The hotel is generally well maintained but it needs to be noted that there are really bad "drain" smells in some areas of the hotel, most noticeably the toilets by the pool area.
Finally, I left a pair of expensive hair straighteners in our room and even after several attempts to contact the hotel, we have had no response which is quite disappointing!

Have just come back after spending a week in this hotel and would say i was a little dissapointed after reading so many great reviews before going.
When we first arrived our initial reaction was that the hotel was lovely and the way we were treated on arrival made us feel very welcomed. Our room was lovely and had a good view of the sea.
Our room was regularly cleaned and constantly we were provided with water in the room, breakfast was lovely every morning and often found the breakfast staff were always more than helpful, creating a happy start to the day.
Now the reasons for my dissapointment are not things that should put anyone off, but i feel they are things that take a great holiday to an average one. I will start by mentioning that the gym at the hotel is terrible, weight machines didnt work properly, no towels and water in the gym either, but if you dont ever use the gym then no need to worry.
Pool service was very slow, you could often wait up to half hour for drinks to arrive after waiting an hour for staff to come up and ask if u want a drink. Then when you go up to the bar they just told me, they would bring it over, which took another 20 mins.
As for satelitte TV in the room, well i wouldnt call it that, a small 16" tele with one english channel. But thats ok as tele isnt watched much on holiday.
The area itself within a 20 minute walk, only consists of a couple decent restaurants, down on the beach promenade, and restaurants wernt really that cheap, but good food in most so you dont mind so much.
Also one day we went to use the spa and when we went down to look at it before paying we were told that the heated pool and jacuzzi were cold as the heating was broken, so we decided not to use it.
The most dissapointing thing about the week was the fact that we didnt have air conditioning in our room for 4 nights, as the air con went out in the hotel. When we asked reception staff when it was going to be fixed we were just told they didnt know, and wernt very helpful at all. Basically we had to just accept that it was broke and they wernt going to help us in any way. It was the rudist we had been treated by any staff in any hotel we stayed in. Luckily the manager finally spoke to us and apologised for what had happened, and gave us a air con box for the room, and a bottle of cava.
So in conclusion, the questions i would ask myself are....... would i stay here again? and would i recommend this hotel to any friends?. and the answer to both questions would prob be no.

I recently stayed at this hotel on a half board basis with a friend for three nights. We stayed in a junior suite which was decorated lovely and was very clean. On arrival we were looked after by Ryan and our bags were taken to our room while we sat outside and enjoyed a drink.

We relaxed each day by the gardens which was wonderful and enjoyed swimming in the lovely pool, we ate in the buffet resturant every night except one where we booked a table in the resturant. The food there was of a very high standard and we enjoyed a great meal.

The hotel in the evening was very quite which was very relaxing but if you are looking for more night life in would be quite easy to take a taxi into Playa Las Americas. Overall a very relaxing break in a hotel I would be happy to visit again.

We spent 5 nights at the Mirador at Whitsun and cannot recommend this 5 star adults only hotel highly enough. From the minute we arrived the staff were brilliant: a porter collected our cases from the hire car and parked the car in the underground garage while the receptionist booked us in with a complimentary cava. From then on the staff were friendly and very efficient.
The hotel itself is in a grand classical Greek theme with columns, arches, balconies etc. The rooms are also furnished in an ornate style, with excellent bathrooms and fine views over the pool and beach. Definitely the quietest rooms we've ever slept in.
We stayed on B and B basis but there are 3 or 4 excellent restaurants within 5 minutes walk on the prom. There are also 3 or 4 others for a cheaper lunch.
The pool is a haven of peace, with plenty of very comfortable loungers. Most evenings there was pleasant, low key entertainment in the bar.
Playa Del Duque is a 5 star oasis in Tenerife south. Be sure to visit the volcano for an amazing experience, but avoid Gold Cars hire at all cost (see my comments on the forum)
Will defo be back

Room Tip: Must be sea view

Recently returned from a 10 day stay and was impressed with the hotel and its location. I would endorse the comments in the review below; arrival is friendly, efficient and stress free, the public areas and grounds of the hotel are beautifully kept, the standard of housekeeping in the rooms was absolutely excellent, reception, pool/bar and dining staff were helpful and attentive and the spa facilities were of a very high standard.

The general environment is very peaceful and relaxing - it's adult only, so if you crave peace and quiet, it is absoltuely ideal. When we stayed 15th -25th May, I would say the guests were mainly in middle to older age range - a few younger, but not many. It is definitely not the place if you want a buzzy atmoshphere and lots going on - very quiet (perfect!) in the daytime and live music (mainly jazz/gentle style) in the bar area at night (finishing approx 11pm), so no late night disturbance to rooms.

We had a Junior Suite Sea View on the 5th floor (Room 1515 - would definitely recommend high floors) - room was the size you would expect from a junior suite with sitting area, very spacious bathroom with separate wc, separate shower cubicle, large bath and double sinks. Balcony was perhaps a little small, but the panaramic sea view was spectacular. Again I would comment on the general housekeeping and cleanliness - standards were very high, the maids do a superb job, both morning and at turn down. , As has been commented before, the rooms are not super modern and could perhaps do with some updating - don't have flat screen tvs, docking stations and contemporary furnishings, but they still feel good quality and spacious.

Breakfast was excellent - everything you would expect of a 5 star hotel, with extensive buffet items and eggs etc cooked to order. Evening buffet was a good standard (perhaps not 5 star all the time, but plentiful and varied with main course chosen from approx 6 dishes and served to the table) - but overall the dining experience at night was still very nice. All of the dining room staff and the chef's were very welcoming and responsive.

We used the Spa; facilties were contemporary and very good quality, staff were knowledgeable and friendly and the massage was very good.

Location of the hotel is difficult to beat - directly above Del Duque beach (which is lovely, very clean and with small number of nice little restaurant/cafes and beach bars clustered). Promenade, which is exceptionally clean (and well lit at night) extends in both directions, so you can walk/explore easily. If you want shopping - there are some really nice boutique type shops within the El Mirador courtyard at the bottom of the hotel (no tat!), a couple of minutes walk is a small comercial centre with pharmacy, supermarket and a few more shops/cafes and then a couple of minutes further on a larger commercial centre with mainly high end shops (Escada, Cartier etc) - very pleasant with food and drink facilities as well. The beauty of the hotel is that it is close to all of this, but once you get through the secure gate and inside the hotel grounds you feel a million miles away from any hustle and bustle down below.

So, all in all, an excellent holiday, with a really great combination of very good quality accommodation, peace and quiet, but easy access to more activity if you want it. Would certainly recommend to adult couples or singles who appreciate those qualties.

Room Tip: Choose a high floor for the best panoramic sea views

My wife and I have just returned from a week's holiday at the Grand El Mirador hotel where we had a really excellent time. It has been a number of years since we have had a holiday in Tenerife but the combination of a super hotel with lovely hot weather made the whole experience very enjoyable. The holiday got off to a great start with the welcome drink at the reception during check in formalities, capped off with an upgrade to a suite on the fourth floor. Very nice!.

We chose this hotel due to a number of reasons, including the mostly excellent reviews on TripAdviser , the hotel location on El Duque beach and last, but not least, the no children policy.

Our experience of this hotel has been very positive and below are some of the reasons which have influenced our desire to return to this hotel in the future.

1. Location on El Duque beach is hard to beat.
2. The staff were, without exception, very efficient, very professional and extremely pleasant to deal with. I can honestly say that every member of staff we met greeted you with a genuine smile.
3. The rooms were kept spotless by the maids with turndown service provided each evening.
4. The large free form pool and sunbathing area was great, with plenty of loungers available and shade provided by both natural means and sun umbrellas. The pool area was quiet, no screaming children or loud music with excellent poolside service being provided by the pool attendants.

We had dinner on three occasions at the hotel using the buffet restaurant and found it to be quite good, in fact the best meal of our week's stay was our last meal which we took at the hotel. The breakfast was very good with plenty of choice for everyone, not sure about the complimentary Cava in the morning though!. We did not venture very far from the hotel to eat, using mainly the local restaurants close to the hotel. In the main I was not impressed with the other restaurants we used, the food being overpriced and not of brilliant quality.

The question people always ask of us when we return from a holiday, other than did we enjoy it?, is, would you go back again?. The answer to that is most definitely YES.

I have made very positive comments about the staff earlier in this review and I can only say to the Management team that whatever you do to motivate your staff it is working!. Hopefully see you soon.

Room Tip: It seems that rooms on the 4th/5th and 6th floor have the best sea views. We were in room 1411, a lo...

We have just returned from a 10 night stay at this hotel and had a wonderful if not a little stressful time! Maybe the pool service was a little slow, but surely you just lie in the sun and wait for your cold beer , if your in a rush just go to the bar and you'll get one as quick as can be!
The breakfasts are great, omelettes made to order and amazing smoothies. Evening meals are good and we quite liked the amateur dramatics, gave us something to smile at!!
Our room had a large balcony and was spotlessly cleaned every day.
On the down side maybe the pool could do with a paint and the guests should have been told about the Sunday wedding my husband thinks the area was roped off far to early in the day!

I am the lady who lost her Diamond bracelet on Friday night and although the Manager and staff organised the most detailed search - including putting someone in the pool at 7.30am and arranging for us to be taken to the police station , sadly although there was only a time period of one hour when it fell off my wrist nobody handed it in.
We are already planning to return in October and can highly recommend it.
