“A Lovely Pub Meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 days ago NEW

We turned up here for Saturday lunch. Very cosy pub with a roaring fire. Staff very friendly. Got a table straight away. Food delicious. Beer, I chose the Cholmondley Best, was excellent. Will definitely return.

Comfy beds, room pleasantly decorated in a modern country style, well-equipped. We were attending a wedding at nearby Iscoyd Park which worked well location-wise. Decent breakfast, lovely staff. Bathroom could do with being a bit more swish, but was clean and everything worked.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the first floor, rather than the ground floor, for better views of countryside

If you like your hot food served cold, your mash potatoes prepared in a food processor and made into gloop and your vegtables so raw you can't stick your folk into them then you will LOVE this!!!

Such a shame because the pub, beer, gin and most of the staff are terrific.

Ended up here by chance, as our favourite Cheshire pub with rooms (The Bear's Paw at Warmingham) was fully booked. But what a find! Converted from an old schoolhouse, the pub/restaurant space is dramatic to say the least. Ceilings go up to the rafters, walls are the lovely russet local brick, tables marble and chunky wood, open fires, strings of hops hang above, clever spotlighting illuminates, and light reflects from large mirrors. A good range of real ales is enthusiastically explained by the friendly bar staff and the food is well above average pub grub standard. Accommodation is in 'The Headmaster's House' a short step from the pub. The rooms are extremely comfortable and can't be faulted, apart, perhaps, from the (listed) unique leaded windows, which can be slightly draughty and drip with condensation. But, hey, - this is a wonderful old building oozing character, not a five star hotel... Breakfast, again in that great pub space, was a selection of the very best local ingredients - black pudding, eggs, mushrooms, bacon, sausages etc. To cap it all, the whole experience is excellent value for money. We'll be back.

Lovely pub converted from an old school house. The lighting inside is perfect with lots of candles, very romantic. Well above par food for dinner, not the usual pub grub. Excellent attentive service from the staff.

Our party spent a weekend here, occupying all six rooms in the old headmaster's house. B
We enjoyed the convivial atmosphere in the pub - bustling, busy, yet well ordered. Service at the busy bar was quick and cheery, and we enjoyed sampling a few of the 200 gins on offer. Food was first rate and table service friendly and efficient.
However, accommodation was disappointing - at least our twin room was. The fittings and decor were rather down-at-heel. The radiator was faulty, and although management tried to fix it, tepid was the best it delivered. The old windows looked lovely, but did not shut (or open) properly, and the shower head and tray were grubby and in need of replacement.
Breakfast was rather greasy and not very hot. So all in all, £90 Per night was expensive.
Dogs are permitted in eating areas. Ample, free parking.

Room Tip: Check for needed improvements.

We recently stayed overnight at the Cholmondeley Arms and would recommend it to anyone. We had a dog with us and she was made very welcome! The rooms are lovely, traditional décor and very comfy beds. I love the olde worlde feel about the main building and the accommodation. We had dinner in the restaurant, next to a lovely log fire, and also tasted some gorgeous gins! I look forward to staying here again.
