“Perfect place for Business and Transit Stay..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2011

This hotel has been booked by my company as we need to have training sessions for our retailers and I can simply say this that this is perfect place for anyone who is looking for business meetings or transit stay in Nagpur as this hotel is very close to airport. There staff was extremely helpful and the buffet they served was outstanding... Didn't got much time to explore other facilities of this beautiful hotel.. but will make sure that I am going to extend my stay.. would highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Please book well in advance as most of the time they run out of rooms.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2011

Having booked this hotel over the internet, I was aware of others' comments regarding its distance from the city. It is a LONG way from Nagpur in the middle of a run-down highway encampment. The surrounding area is neither scenic nor conducive to exploration and the hotel staff claimed the only way into town was by taking a very expensive "car package". In fact, it is easy to travel in from the highway in a minibus (10 IR) or by auto rickshaw (150 IR).

We arrived late at night after a long journey and we were looking forward to relaxing in our 5 star room. Such a foolish expectation:

1 Despite booking a room for 2, we were given a room set up for 1. Only 1 teabag, 1 coffee sachet, one pair of slippers and so on. This set the tone for the stay. The hotel is mean in its provision of supplies and, despite numerous phone calls to the different "desks", this meanness continued until I had a public discussion in the lobby with a manager.

2 Dirty bedding. Unbelievably, the bedding was dirty. The quilt cover had blood stains, the sheets had brown stains (no, I didn't want to know how they got there) and the pillows were grey and grubby and marked with lipstick. Everything had to be changed. The second set of bedding was also stained and the third was wet (fresh from the laundry?) We did not have a clean bed until after midnight.

3 Facilities are very poor. There were 2 men working in the gym. One was lovely, the other arrogant. Mr Arrogant at first refused to provide an umbrella for the pool lounger. He said they were all broken. I asked him to move a lounger into the shade as it was July, the middle of India and the sun was hot. He then "found" a working umbrella. He said there were no mattresses for the loungers but I found over 20 neatly stacked in a store room. Similarly, he said there were no towels because the morning gym users had used them! I found one in the gym. While swimming in the pool, the water feature was turned on for about 10 minutes, which was a relief as it drowned out the sound of the power generator overshadowing the pool area. Then it was switched off. More meanness!

4 Rationing!! You don't expect things to be rationed in a 5 star hotel. You have to ask, ask and ask again for everything. Towels (often none in the room at all), water bottles for 2 (they charge an extra 1000IR for double occupancy but do not want to give you double rations!), use of the limited facilities (the pool area was quite dirty, with broken equipment and surly, unsmiling staff.) The spa was staffed by giggling attendants who were more interested in chatting to each other than helping. There were very few guests in the hotel and the whole place felt as is if the staff preferred it that way: guests are a nuisance!

5 Staff - some of the staff are lovely, especially in the restaurant and on the front desk. Staff in the pool area, with one exception, were rude, unhelpful and totally unco-operative. In the 2 hours I was in the pool area, not one member of staff asked me if I needed anything (approx 12 staff visited the pool area while I was there, i was the only guest). NO water, NO shampoo or soap in the shower (dirty!), NO towels. Nothing was provided but one manager stood and stared at me as if I shouldn't be there. When i asked him for some water, he turned and left without a word. In general, the managers were rude. When I complained about the room the manager on duty refused to look at me and told me to go to the front desk. Appalling attitude. In general, the staff are more interested in the local patrons who visit the restaurants. I felt that this hotel did not like "gora log" at all!

Overall, there is not much choice in Nagpur. The Sun and Sand could do much better but don't seem to care because there is no competition. In the "City of Oranges" they couldn't even produce fresh orange juice at the buffet breakfast. They settled for canned juice! The pool was closed without warning and without any idea of when it would reopen. As it is the ONLY leisure facility available, it meant that there was NOTHING to do!

The hotel is very expensive for what it offers, the management are clearly not interested in out of town guests, the food is fine but not exciting and the way the rooms are equipped makes you feel that the hotel is doing you a favour by giving you a teabag!

Room Tip: Ask to see the room first and check the beds. Stand your ground.

An hour's drive from the city gets you to the Sun-n-Sand Hotel in Nagpur. And you wouldnt expect a hotel like this in Nagpur.

Everything about the hotel is just about right- except for the location. The lobby is huge, well lit and the staff is extremely courteous and polite. I must mention here that my booking at the SnS was done a few hours prior to my checking in. Not only did the reservations exec have a room for me, he also offered an all inclusive meal plan with the room- one sweet deal. Unfortunately, that message wasnt passed on to the dining staff and had to endure a discussion over my dining bills in the middle of the night- after dinner.

The room is fantastic- well laid out and large. The minibar is well stocked and the bathroom is fabulous. Room service is excellent too. Overnight laundry is literally overnight- put in a couple of shirts at 1 am, they were returned to me precisely at 7 am.

The breakfast buffet is a large affair with an eggs counter and a wide assortment of your usual breakfast items. Oranges were available (this IS the orange city).

All in all- a very satisfying stay. Would certainly recommend the Sun-n-Sand.

Room Tip: Check out the nighclub on the ground floor!

This is a very good hotel. But one disadvantage is far off from city. This is quite close to airport but in the opposite side of the city. So makes it little difficult if you new and want to use up your free time after office hours. Hotel has an excellent lobby. Buffet dinner at night is absolutely fantastic. A must for everyone. So is the buffet breakfast. Truly a class hotel in a city like Nagpur. What best can you ask for.

Sun n Sand was recommended by my Client for my stay during my business trip to Nagpur; being close to the airport makes it the perfect place to be (not losing much time in travel :-))
The friendly service and warmth extended by the staff is worth mentioning. Excellent service and atmosphere makes it stand apart among all the hotels in Nagpur
